I woke up to the sound of rustling sheets and someone’s sharp hiss of pain

For a second, I thought maybe I was dreaming. The room was still dim, the early morning light was barely slipping through the heavy curtains. But then I heard it again—the sound of fabric shifting, and a familiar muffled curse.

I shot up so fast I nearly got whiplash.

“Mark?” My voice was still heavy with sleep……and worry.

He was sitting up in bed, his back against the headboard, his jaw clenched so tight that it looked painful. One hand gripped his injured shoulder and the other braced against the mattress like he was preparing to push himself up. His face was pale, beads of sweat collecting on his forehead, but his eyes were set with determination.

He was trying to get out of bed. He was stubborn as hell, and so am I

I gaped at him. “Are you serious right now?”

Mark didn’t even look at me. He just swung his legs over the edge of the bed, moving way too fast for someone who literally had a bullet hole in his

I couldn’t stop thinking about it.The way Alice had looked at Mark. The words she said—like I wasn’t enough. Like I couldn’t handle him the way she did.It burned under my skin, and no matter how much I tried to shake it off, it just wouldn’t go away.I sat on the edge of the bed, watching Mark as he pulled off his shirt. His muscles flexed under the dim light, his body tense like he was holding something back. He’d been quiet since Alice left—too quiet. Like her words didn’t matter. But I knew better. And I couldn’t let it go."Mark," I said softly, breaking the silence. He glanced at me, tossing his shirt onto the chair. "Yeah?"I hesitated for a second, biting my lip. "What did she mean?"His brow furrowed. "What?""When she said I couldn’t handle you," I pressed, my heart pounding. "What did she mean by that?"His face shifted, the easy calm he wore cracking just a little."She’s just messing with you," he said, turning his back to me.That answer wasn’t good enough."Don’t lie t

The garden was peaceful. I needed that right now.It was the only place in this damn house where I didn’t feel watched. Alice had been lurking too much lately, always finding an excuse to talk to me, to ask about my past, my life with Mark. It was like she was trying to figure out what made me different. What made me better.I wasn’t in the mood for her games. Not today.I leaned against the old wooden bench, staring at the flowers, letting the cool air settle my thoughts. The past few days had been intense. Cholo’s men had a new leader, someone who used to be close to Mark and my father. That meant we weren’t out of danger yet. I should’ve been focused on that—on what our next move was.But instead, I was out here, trying to ignore the ugly feeling twisting in my stomach.Alice.She was always there, hovering like a shadow. I hated that she still had a connection to Mark, that she knew him in ways I didn’t. And no matter how many times he told me she meant nothing, there was always t

I should’ve known peace wouldn’t last. Not after everything.Mark had killed Cholo. It wasn’t just a warning—it was a message. And people like Cholo? They didn’t die without leaving behind a mess. The mess came two days later. It started when Mark got a call. We were in the kitchen. I was making coffee while Mark leaned against the counter, shirtless, looking so good it was almost unfair. For once, things felt… normal. Easy. Then his phone buzzed.I didn’t think much of it at first. Not until I saw his face go blank the second he read the screen.“Who is it?” I asked, setting my mug down.He didn’t answer right away. His jaw tightened, muscles flexing under his skin as he stared at his phone like it might explode.“Mark?” I tried again, my chest already feeling tight. He sighed and rubbed a hand over his face. “It’s him.”I frowned. “Who?”“Travis,” he said quietly. “He wants to meet.”I froze. Travis?I hadn’t heard that name in years. But I remembered him—how could I not? He was one

I should’ve known Alice wouldn’t stay quiet for long. The morning after Mark and I… Well, after everything, I found her sitting at the kitchen counter like she belonged here. She had her long, perfect legs crossed, a cup of coffee in her hand, and a fake, sweet smile plastered on her face.I already didn’t trust her. Now, I liked her even less.“Morning,” she said smoothly, her eyes sweeping over me.I knew exactly what she was doing—taking in the oversized shirt I was wearing. Mark’s shirt. Her smile didn’t even twitch, but I saw the tension in her shoulders. She hated it.Good.“Morning,” I said back, keeping my voice calm as I poured myself a cup of coffee. I wasn’t about to play nice. Not with her.“So…” she started, her tone light—too light. “How long have you and Mark been… a thing?”I sipped my coffee, acting like her question didn’t get to me. “A while,” I said, leaning against the counter.Alice tilted her head, her blonde hair falling perfectly over her shoulder. Everything

Sege povMark was out dealing with whatever he dealt with and I was here with Alice, probably outside lounging in the pool like she fucking owned the place. I sighed.I needed Mark here now, it’s been long since we…….I barely heard the door close before Mark was on me.Oh so my wishes come through sometimes? One second, I was sitting on the bed, scrolling through my phone. The next, he was there—his hands rough as they grabbed my waist, pulling me against him. His mouth crashed into mine, hard and desperate, and I felt my whole body light up like I’d been waiting for this forever. WowAnd maybe I had.He hadn’t touched me like this for a long time after everything fell apart—the Cholo, the cops, and her.I wasn’t thinking about any of that now. Not with his mouth on mine and his hands sliding under my shirt, dragging it up and over my head. I gasped as the cool air hit my skin, but Mark’s lips were already on my neck, hot and demanding.“Missed you,” he growled against my skin. “Miss

Mark’s POVMark’s POVThe cell was quiet, but my mind was a war zone. I sat on the edge of the cold bench, elbows resting on my knees, fingers laced as I stared at the ground. I had counted every crack on the floor, memorized every shadow on the walls. And still, no answer.Until the cell door opened.I didn’t look up. Not at first. Then her voice cut through the silence.“It’s done.”Alice.My jaw tightened as I raised my head. She stood just outside the bars, composed as always, her lips painted with a calm I didn’t trust. Her blonde hair was pulled into a perfect knot, not a strand out of place. That stupid suit hugged her like it belonged there—like she belonged in control.I rose to my feet slowly, my shoulders stiff. “What the hell are you talking about?”Alice held out a folder, and behind her, a nervous-looking officer peered over her shoulder. “The charges against you were based on falsified reports. The arrest was shaky from the beginning. I got the evidence tossed and the c
