Alexander rounded the corner just as the man cornering Regina raised his gun toward her chest.

He didn't think. He moved.

His shoulder drove into the man's ribs with enough force to slam them both into the wall, the gun clattering somewhere into the dark. Alexander's fist connected once, twice, until the man went still beneath him, and only then did he look up and find her.

Regina stood pressed against the far wall, chest heaving, a fire extinguisher still clutched in both hands like she hadn't

Marcus Webb hadn't slept properly in three nights, not since the last connection had cut out faster than it should have. He told himself it meant nothing, but paranoia didn't accept easy explanations at four in the morning. He sat in the farmhouse kitchen with three monitors glowing before him and a packed duffel bag beside the back door. Seven cameras covered the property. The gate, barn, roof, both walls, rear door and attic. He had checked them so many times that the tree line had started playing tricks on him. Tonight the feeds were clean, but he was wrong to feel safe.At 5:18 A.M, there were no sirens, lights, unnecessary communication, or even a hint that someone was coming.Alexander sat in the lead SUV, dressed in black, as Adrian drove the final stretch with the headlights killed. Three vehicles followed behind, engines low, six of his personal security detail riding in the two behind them.He checked his phone.I'm staying home waiting for my dear husband. Don't do anything

At 2:37 a.m, the servers became the loudest thing in the room. The low mechanical hum rolled through the security operations center beneath the east wing while rows of monitors painted the walls in shifting shades of blue and white. Outside, the estate slept beneath a blanket of darkness. Inside, no one had left their station. Nathan hadn't blinked at the clock in nearly an hour. Alexander's order still stood. Don't shut anything down. Leave the door open, let them believe no one had noticed. It was a dangerous gamble. Nathan admired it. He leaned back in his chair, fingers resting lightly above the keyboard without touching it. "They'll come back," Alexander had said. Nathan hoped he was right. Because if they didn't... The only trail they had would disappear forever. Across the room, Adrian studied six surveillance monitors at once while another laptop quietly compared millions of network packets against archived intrusion patterns. He looked relaxed, but Nathan had learne

Kingston Manor never truly slept. It only changed shifts. At 12:17 a.m., the security operations center beneath the east wing hummed with the steady rhythm of cooling fans and glowing monitors. The bright committee room of the morning felt like another lifetime. Here there were no polished speeches, no committee votes, only rows of encrypted servers and screens flooded with lines of code.Nathan had changed into a dark sweater hours ago. His tie lay abandoned over the back of a chair beside three untouched cups of coffee.Across the room Adrian leaned against one of the equipment racks, studying six surveillance feeds at once without appearing to move. Neither man had spoken for nearly ten minutes. The silence wasn't uncomfortable. It was concentration.Nathan finally broke it."The session lasted exactly seven minutes."He enlarged another window."From 9:04 until 9:11."Adrian didn't answer immediately.Nathan continued." No directory searches. No trial and error. Whoever entered a

The Kingston Family Trust Committee rarely gathered in person. When it did, it meant the family had reached a crossroads. By nine o'clock, every chair around the long walnut table was occupied. Outside the tall windows, gardeners trimmed the hedges while maids crossed the courtyard carrying fresh flowers into the manor, the morning behaving as if it were no different from any other. Inside, no one touched the coffee. No one spoke above a whisper. Nathan stood beside the conference room door as the committee members filed in one after another, his attention fixed on their faces instead of the folders tucked beneath their arms. It was a habit he had developed over four years, one that had served him better than any briefing ever could. Documents revealed what people wanted others to know. Faces, on the other hand, often betrayed what they were desperate to hide. Every tightened jaw, forced smile, lingering glance, and carefully measured expression became another piece of a puzzle

"You're not going to the office."Alexander looked up from his phone.Regina stood at the bedroom door with one hand resting against the frame and the other on her stomach. He frowned."You've been staring at that phone for the past ten minutes.""I am thinking." He replied."You have a very expensive office for that." She exaggerated.Alexander's eyes narrowed."Are you making fun of me?""Never.""That was a lie." He gave a funny smile."Yes."Despite himself, his mouth moved again. It was barely a smile, but Regina caught it. Then his expression returned to something harder."Andrew's lawyers have requested an emergency hearing.""I know.""They filed the request last night.""I know.""How do you know?""Because you have been muttering about it since we got home."Alexander looked at her."I do not mutter.""You do it when you're angry.""I don't.""You said, 'Ridiculous' three times while taking off your shoes.""That is not muttering.""It is , if nobody was talking to you."Ale

"Who is Andrew?"Alexander didn't answer.Regina stared at him from the passenger seat as the car moved through the dark streets toward Kingston Manor. He had been quiet since they left the gala. His jaw remained tense, his eyes fixed ahead, and every few minutes his fingers tightened around the steering wheel as though he was trying to control something that had nothing to do with the road.Regina had seen Alexander angry and even afraid but this was something else. This was personal."Alexander."His eyes remained on the road. "I heard you.""Then answer me.""He's my uncle.""I know that." She replied."My father's younger brother.""I also know that." She looked directly at him.Alexander glanced at her.Regina folded her arms."You don't get to bring a man into our lives by allowing him to threaten you in front of half the city's most powerful people and then expect me to sit quietly while you stare out of a window.""I wasn't expecting you to sit quietly, I knew you would ask qu
