~BREE~
I don’t know for how long I’ve been locked in this dark room, but it must have been for hours as it was getting darker and darker. I used to be afraid of the dark, but not anymore; now it was just something that gave me peace. Yes, my once-fear became my peace, as at least in the darkness I would forget about my misery and try to live another person's life. If you ask me, I won’t even know when things started to go wrong—was it when my real parents died? When I met Jocelyn? When I got into that fight? Or when I mistakenly served Amber the wolfsbane? I honestly didn’t know, and I didn’t want to give it much thought. I turned to the old woman whom I’d been calling since I got here, but there was still no response. Maybe she had died because the smell in here didn’t just feel like rats; she was dead as if she had been asleep, I could have heard her snores. The thought of her death caused tears to roll down my cheeks freely; she was my only hope, and I once promised to get her out of there. No, I couldn’t let her die without me fulfilling my promise, but before I could call her one more time, I heard noises from the door, which made me move back on my butt until my back hit the wall. They were here, and I didn’t know what punishment they were going to give me now. My heart started racing just from the sound of their footsteps, and I closed my eyes, then hugged my knees and started muttering. “I didn’t do it,” I repeated while I felt myself being helped to stand by two men, who then dragged me out. I wasn’t confused; I knew what was happening. I was being taken to the torture room, the room where Alpha Zander and others liked to torture me. Here was just for my sleep and a little bit of torture, but I received most of the pain in that room. It didn’t take long to arrive there, as next I was seated on the chair, and the man tied my hands on the back of the chair and my legs together. I closed my eyes, and when I opened them, Alpha Zander was standing right in front of me, playing with the blade of a knife. “Where do I start?” He asked himself with a smirk on his face as if causing me pain was winning a war. **** It’s been a month; I’ve been in the torture room forever. I knew it was a month, as Alpha Zander always wrote the date on the wall with my blood. That night when they brought me here, he called the witch who always bound my wolf and took my powers, and after she was done with that, they sent her away, and Zander started torturing me. As predicted, he opened up that fresh wound with the knife and caused several others. I’ve been here, and my body is sore. I didn’t even know why I was not dying, as Zander didn’t send me for treatment this time. They were convinced I purposely poisoned the champagne and that I was working for someone, but I wasn't, so the truth was what I always told them, but it never helped as they just ended up causing me pain. I struggled and opened my eyes and saw Alpha Zander, who seemed to be waiting for me to open my eyes. He crossed his legs with a short glass in his hands, which had alcohol for a second before he brought it near his lips and gulped it down in one go. “Still refuse to talk?!” He leaned in to ask, and I weakly shook my head; my lips were in pain from the dryness as they had scratches on them. “I…” “Fine,” he said, standing up and removing his blazer jacket. I knew what he was going to do as he started doing his sleeves, and I didn't think I could take any of those. Luckily someone barged in and called him; it was Stephen. He said it was urgent. “I will be back,” he turned to me and said before he rushed out. I know it wasn't forever, but seeing him leave made me rest my head against the chair and close my eyes for a second. “I will help you.” A voice made me open my eyes, and I saw a person who, from my blurry vision, I couldn't recognize as the person's body seemed to be covered. "Come, we don't have time,” he said, and then started untying my hands and then my legs. I thought I was imagining it until he took my hand and asked me to follow him. “I… t-they…” “A friend is playing with time, so it's only the two of us who can move for now,” he said, I nodded then dragged my legs and walked as fast as I could; even if this was just a dream, I wanted to succeed in it; who knew maybe it was really happening. We reached downstairs, and there we passed by servants who seemed to be frozen, and it made me believe time was really paused. Reaching outside, the man turned into a big wolf, and I didn't need him to tell me what to do as I painfully climbed onto his back and he started sprinting towards the woods. He kept going until we were deep into the woods he stopped, and then I climbed down, in no time he transitioned back to his human form but was now naked, so I quickly looked away. “I would cut ties with the Moon Valley pack if I were you,” he said, sounding like he was saying goodbye, so I turned and faced him. That's when I noticed the difference; he had long black hair and brown skin, which meant he was not from here. I opened my mouth to ask something, but he cut me. “I just did a friend a favor; now you can go your way,” he said, and again before I could ask, he jumped, transitioning into a wolf, then sprinting away. Great! Just great! I was in the middle of the woods, a place where rogues ruled! A place where other wolves could pass by, and surely if they saw me, they would not hesitate to tear me into pieces, as I was already hated by everyone; I was known as a murderer, and I didn't even have Rain to guide me.|A YEAR LATER|~BREE~“I don't think I can do it, sis. You know what? I changed my mind; I don't want it anymore.” I heard my sister say from the other end.“What are you saying?”“That I don't want to be a mother witch anymore; besides, I was not the one chosen. I can't have people depend on me; I'm just a witch with—”“No, you're not; you are the mother of all witches, a mother of the tribe. Hecate chose you; she believes in you.”“She chose you, Aubree; you're the one they're supposed to be crowning.”“And I don't want it; I don't like it, but you... you're passionate, you want it, you love it.” I convinced her.Remember the time Ruby started being weird when Mom suggested that she might be upset because she was used to being the last born?Well after that messy fight, I spoke to Ruby, and she told me how much she wanted to be the mother witch, to be chosen, but since it was me chosen, she was okay with it, but I told her how I didn't want it, and speaking to Mom about it, we agree
“Jocelyn was easy; she wanted to be the Luna, so hearing that her sister was Zander’s mate instead scared her. That’s why she agreed to the plan easily…” She explained how she was behind faking Jocelyn’s death because they wanted to physically break Aubree, and when they saw she was ready, they sent Alaric, who went to get her, and she called Jerry and informed him of the auction. “Poor girl thought she had escaped, it was fun to watch…” she laughed. She then explained how she did some things that made me want to go to the auction, and just like that, Aubree ended up in my hands. She explained how they needed her to relax and how falling in love would awaken another power, then they did everything, but now it was time to harvest, as she called it, so she didn’t want to leave any evidence. That’s why she called Jocelyn and Levi, who were on it with her, of course, and introduced her as his mate when Aubree and Zander started being suspicious. She explained how she later set her up, oh,
I looked down at Rosa and Henry’s feet and saw Allison who seemed unconscious too, and I almost took a step when Mom stopped me.“See that purple line? Cross it and you're dead.” She warned, and I shook my head, not knowing what to do. “In fact, let me just make sure…” She said and then raised her hand in the air and closed her eyes. I didn't understand what she was doing and was shocked at how obedient Levi was as he looked at her, a smile on his lips. “Done, now you can't move,” she said, and I tried to move my leg, but it didn't work.“I will not have you ruin my plan. Do you know the years it took to get here?” She asked, and I just shook my head as I realized the story Henry told me was the truth. He said Mom was the one who took advantage of him, that she and Alena were in the wrong, but I didn't believe it, but now seeing this, god, I've been foolish.“The blood.” She held out her hand to Levi, who now I noticed was holding a tiny bottle; the liquid in it was unmistakable. I kn
I didn't want to push her; I really didn't, but this was a baby, my blood. How could she just—“Jocelyn is in danger.”“You're talking about Jocelyn; my baby is in danger.”“I’m serious, Asher; she saved me after kidnapping me. I think she's being used.”“Aubree, I don't care about the drama now; all I want to know is if my baby is safe,” I said it really in a calm tone, opposite from the storm inside of me.“It's not a baby yet, and besides, it's not the end; we can have kids when we’re both ready. I say when I’m thirty.”“This is not a joke.”“I was taken with Glinda; Jocelyn kidnapped us but later freed us. She hurt herself to show whoever sent her that we escaped and hurt her, but we didn't; she saved us.”“I get you, and I'm sorry about your sister, but now it's only my baby that matters. If you can't carry it, fine, let the doctors implant it in someone, but my baby will come to life.” I said, losing the calmness with each word that followed. “This is my first child; I can't… Ca
Shocked would be an understatement to what I was feeling now; it was even more shocking as Alpha Blake congratulated me, and Dante even hugged me. I didn't understand what was going on; I was just observing as Luna Ruby and the woman hugged Aubree, and she looked so comfortable with them but not happy.I cleared my throat and asked what was happening.“Your wife is pregnant; you're going to be a dad.” Luna Ruby answered so casually that I wondered if they had lost their minds. I was their enemy; what was this?“We are so happy for you; you are going to make a great dad.” The old man said, clapping my back, I was still so confused that I ignored Tylan as he asked questions—he was as confused as me.“If I cry more, I might just dehydrate. Congratulations.” The middle-aged woman said. Well, at least the woman seemed familiar. I've seen her in one of the photo albums Mom kept but couldn't remember her name.“Go,” Luna Ruby, who was standing next to me, said, asking me to get near Aubree,
~ASHER~It didn't make sense how Aubree believed that bastard brother of mine over me. Not that she owed me anything—I was the one who decided to buy her at that auction. But still, I saved her life; I treated her better than Zander, but to think she would rather believe him than me was frustrating.Mom was asking me to calm down and give her space, but I couldn't; I was going to sit when I remembered where she liked going whenever she was upset, so rushing out, I quickly worked my way through the stairs shouting her name. The woods were not safe, and even though I was angry at her, she was still my wife, and I couldn't risk anything happening to her.I didn't find her in the living room, so I walked out, and there I found my guards. I didn't even need to ask as they pointed toward the direction of the woods.I quickly ran there, calling her name and asking her to stop, but she wasn't listening to me as she kept walking.“Let's talk about this,” I said as I struggled through the littl
