SLOANE

I'm angry. I'm so angry I can't even go home.

How dare he dismiss me like that?

Charlotte hums softly as she rocks Nate in her arms, swaying like he’s real. Like he might cry if she stops.

I'm so happy she seems to be doing better. I hope one day she will get to accept what happened and start afresh, but I plan on being her friend and staying by her side no matter how long it takes.

I lie there on the carpet, my arms folded beneath my head, staring at the ceiling while my chest burns in fury.

He hasn't even called me to ask why I'm not home!

“I can't believe him,” I mutter. “I risked my life to help him, and instead of saying thank you, he acts like I’m the villain.”

Charlotte glances down.

“Believe what?”

“Ian,” I respond, looking at her. “He told me I was reckless and selfish. That I made him angry. Can you believe it? I pull him out of a fire, and somehow, I’m the problem. Yet when he jumped in danger to save me, I was grateful.”

She presses her cheek against Nate’s pla

  • DEAR STRANGER, MARRY ME AGAIN   Chapter 45 ~ It can be dangerous

SLOANE If you're provoked, is murder still considered illegal? That's the thought I have running in my head as I watch Ian walk into his stupid office. How dare he?How dare he accuse me of keeping secrets, of siding with my brother, when I just spent the last thirty minutes defending him like a damn fool?I could’ve told Noah everything. I should have. But I didn’t. I protected Ian. I made excuses for him. I made myself the villain in a story I didn’t even write, just so he wouldn’t have to deal with the fallout of his own choices. And what do I get in return?“You’re deflecting. You’re lying. Sloane the martyr.”I feel the sting in my chest like a fresh slap. It keeps replaying in my head like some awful loop I can’t switch off. His tone, his face, the way he pulled away from me like I was some stranger who couldn’t be trusted.“Did your precious husband tell you everything? Did he tell you what happened two years ago?” Noah’s words echo in my head. What happened two years ago?

IANI step into the doorway, and my eyes lock onto Noah’s.My wife's dumb brother has his jaw tight like he's ready for a fight which is funny considering the fact that he's never really been man enough in any situation and therefore hasn't earned any ounce of respect from either me or Alex.Noah is not only sketchy, he's a coward, and I'd rather chew glass than believe he's changed. Which is why I don't like that he's in our home. “I didn't know my brother-in-law would be visiting us today,” I say slowly, my voice calm but laced with steel. “If I did, I would’ve canceled our reservation.”My beloved brother in law looks at me like he wants to kill me but is wise enough to keep his hands to himself. Would you look at that? He's not that dumb after all.“What kind of game are you playing, Ian?” he snarls.Sloane tries to step between us, but I pull her to my side instead.“I didn't know I was playing games.” I retort calmly.“Noah was just leaving.” My wife says, “I'll call you.” Sh

  • DEAR STRANGER, MARRY ME AGAIN   Chapter 43 ~ I trust him with my life

SLOANE “I've missed you.” Noah says as he looks at me with a worried expression. “Has he been good to you?”My brother, who I've been avoiding since I woke up, decided to show up at my front door. In my defense, I wasn't going to hide forever. I just didn't know what had happened in the last nine years. Noah and I were separated at a young age. While he was sheltered and shown love by mum and dad, I was sold off to make money that paid for his school. Honestly, the only feeling I remember having towards him is resentment. How could he have life so easy? But as we sit and I watch the look on his face, it tells me we have reconciled and genuinely care for each other.“Yes. He has been good to me.” Noah sighs, runs a hand through his hair, and then sighs again.“If he starts treating you badly, you need to tell me Slo. You've already been through so much, I just want you to be happy.”I laugh, finding him a little dramatic, “ Besides the kidnappings, I'm very fine and happy.”“What ki

  • DEAR STRANGER, MARRY ME AGAIN   Chapter 42 ~ Merely reminding you

IAN“Ian Quinn, let go of your brother right this instant!” Dad's voice booms, but I don’t release Arnold as I choke him even more. The little shit gasps for air as I add more pressure.“It was you, wasn't it?” I growl pushing him further into the wall.Arnold’s eyes widen, bulging now, his face turning a sick shade of red. He claws at my wrists, but I don’t budge. “You were the one who told her where to find my wife, didn't you?” “No..I..I didn’t!” he wheezes, his voice barely a rasp.“You did!” I slam him again, a brutal thud echoing through the room. “I took her to my private villa. The road she used that day was a private one so unless Madoxx is a fucking Wizard, it must have been you!”“Ian, enough!” Dad tries to pull me off him, but I shrug him off like he’s nothing. “Stay out of this Dad. This is between brothers.” I growl with detest.“He's your brother! Why would he want to hurt your wife?” I laugh as I release the fucker roughly on the floor. I turn to face my father who

  • DEAR STRANGER, MARRY ME AGAIN   Chapter 41 ~ Enough of you

SLOANE The moment we step into our bedroom, I watch as Ian removes his bloody shirt, followed by the pants and the boxers. He stands completely naked with a broad back, veiny arms, and a tight ass that makes me drool from how bad I want him.Sometimes, I wonder if he’s human. He's so gorgeous my chest hurts. My eyes drop before I can stop them and drink in the rare sight before me.Eight perfect abs. Cut lines. A body carved that I want pressed against me so bad. Without a word, he walks into the shower, leaving me to swallow down the ache building between my thighs.I stare at the door as I hear the water start running with my fists clenched at my sides and a pulse thundering in my ears. With my bottom lip between my teeth, I begin to undo my shirt one button at a time. The shorts then follow, leaving me naked as the cold air kisses my skin, but it’s not what makes me shiver. It's the anticipation and thrill of what I have in mind.I open the glass door and step into the steam-fille
