FIFTY SEVEN
She had insisted there was no need for treatment because of the bruises she had on her body. But the hospital kept forcing her and injected her with anesthetic yesterday, so that all night she continued to sleep in the hospital until she didn't realize that the bad things she had yesterday weren't just a dream. The shooting was real. The kidnapping is real. And the wounded Calvin is real too.

Hazel just opened her eyes and immediately found Richmond in her room with an attractive-looking woman who was placing flowers beside her treatment bed. In the focus that had not yet fully gathered in her eyes, she tried to summon all of her consciousness so she could speak to the man.

Hazel spent thirty minutes wailing in the bathroom. The shower water she turned on violently prevented anyone from knowing about her cries. His coming today was greeted by the autumn wind that blew so hard and the cold was able to seep into the thick coat he was wearing now and the yellow leaves that were scattered along the hospital grounds. This is a regular visit every week. He never missed a visit and would still visit even though his schedule was very busy. Even his wife nagged every time he got home because he never spent more time with her if she wasn't sulking or even grumpy. He didn't understand why Calvin was his favorite so far. Taking a deep breath of Seattle air, then exhaling it was painful for Calvin, who was still recovering from the shooting incident. The first thing Catherine saw when she opened the door for the bell ringer was a grim face and red eyes from crying too much. The smile on her face soon disappeared and was replaced by a worried look because she found Hazel coming home in a condition that wasn't what she expected. She thought Hazel would be happier after coming home from D.C, considering she'd gotten what she'd wanted all along, a chance to meet Kiev and ask about Calvin. But what she saw at this time actually looked worrying. Hazel's condition had become much worse than the last time she had seen her before she left for the airport full of joy. "The girls?" she asked wearily as she plopped down on the couch. She had tried not to cry the whole way from the airport to her apartment. And now she felt really tired like her energy had been sucked out of her body. "Still in school. Emily's home in an hour.
