Chapter 5: I've heard a lot about you.

The next morning, my bags were packed and ready for the trip to New York. My heart thudded in my chest as I remembered my purpose: I was going back to face the people who had killed me and stolen my fortune. I clenched my fists until my knuckles turned white, taking a deep breath to steady my nerves.

Don Julio was waiting for me outside, along with some of the staff.

"Take care,Elizabeth. Make the Alvarez name proud," he said, rubbing my hair affectionately before pulling me into a warm hug. The name Elizabeth sounded strangely comforting coming from him.

"Yes,Godfather," I replied.

The chauffeur opened the rear door for me.I waved goodbye to everyone, feeling a wave of emotion. Don Julio reminded me so much of my father.

Before I knew it, we had arrived at the airport, and I was boarding the plane to New York.

My mind raced with a torrent of thoughts. There was no doubt in my mind that Richard and Jessica had turned the company into their personal bank. I was going to make sure I put an end to their bastardly shenanigans.

---

The flight was smooth, and soon the plane touched down in New York. My private driver was waiting, and he swiftly took my bags. We drove straight to the company headquarters.

As I walked through the familiar glass doors, a hush fell over the main office. One by one, employees rose from their desks, greeting me with respectful nods and smiles. Their deference to the Alvarez name was clear.

Yet, I couldn't miss the subtle glances and whispered exchanges. Some employees studied me with unveiled surprise. The real Elizabeth had been wild and wayward; the woman standing before them now carried herself with a new air of authority and purpose.

I overheard their gossiping whispers. "She's so... different," one murmured. "Is that really Elizabeth?" asked another.

I didn't acknowledge them. I kept walking, my expression neutral and my gaze fixed ahead. I wasn't here for gossip. I was here for revenge.

I settled into the overwhelming grandeur of my new office. It was a corner suite on the top floor, a sweeping space that screamed of power. Sunlight flooded the room through immense floor-to-ceiling windows, framing a breathtaking view of the New York skyline. The floor was polished dark marble that reflected the light, and my desk was a vast, monolithic piece of gleaming ebony. Behind it stood a tall leather chair that felt less like furniture and more like a throne.

A soft knock at the door pulled me from my thoughts. "Enter," I said.

The door opened to reveal a young, efficient-looking woman. "Ms. Alvarez? I'm Maya, your new personal assistant. Welcome back."

"Thank you, Maya," I replied, my voice steady despite the storm inside me. "Please, bring me the company's financial files and all major transaction records for the last five years."

She gave a quick, professional nod and returned shortly with a heavy stack of folders. I spent the next hour poring over them, my fingers tracing the lines of numbers that told a story of betrayal. With each page, my suspicions hardened into cold, hard certainty. The discrepancies were glaring, the transfers bold and arrogant.

Finally, I closed the last folder and looked up at my assistant, my expression a carefully crafted mask of calm. "Maya, please schedule an immediate meeting with Mr. Richard Williams, the CEO of William's enterprises."

It was time to face the man who had stolen my life.

Maya looked slightly confused. "Of course, Ms. Alvarez. I'll reach out to Mr. Williams' secretary immediately. However, I should mention his schedule is extremely demanding."

"I understand," I said, my tone leaving no room for negotiation. "But this meeting is not optional. Ensure it is scheduled for tomorrow. Unfailingly. Tell his secretary it is a matter of utmost importance regarding the company's future."

Maya nodded, though her expression was still uncertain. "I'll try my best, Ms. Alvarez."

"Don't try," I said, a sharp edge to my voice. "Make it happen."

After she left, I leaned back in my chair, the soft leather groaning in protest. The rest of the day was spent plotting, my mind a whirlwind of strategies and contingencies. I would be ready for him.

---

The next morning, I dressed like a queen going to war. My suit was exquisitely tailored, a sharp, powerful shade of crimson, and my hair was pulled back into a severe, elegant chignon. Every detail was calculated to project an image of unshakeable authority. I was bringing my A-game.

A flustered but relieved Maya met me at the office door. "Mr. Williams has agreed to the meeting. He'll be here in half an hour."

A cold smile touched my lips. "Perfect."

When Richard finally walked into my office, I remained seated behind my desk, letting him approach me. His eyes widened almost imperceptibly as he took me in, a slow, predatory grin spreading across his face. He was completely smitten, just as I had intended. I maintained my perfect poise, offering him a cool, calculated smile in return.

This was the man to whom I had been married for five years. The man who had murdered me, stolen my entire fortune, and replaced me with his mistress. A wave of visceral disgust washed over me, but I fixed a steely smile on my face.

"It's a pleasure to finally meet you, Ms. Alvarez," he said, his voice slick. He stared at me like I was a prize to be won, his gaze that of a horny beast. "I've heard a great deal about your godfather. He's a very successful businessman."

I rose slowly, extending my hand for a brief, firm handshake. "Well, it's nice to meet you too, Mr. Richard," I said, my voice sweet yet laced with steel. My eyes locked with his, and for a single, electric moment, I let the mask slip just enough for me to see the man I once loved—and the man who killed me—staring back. "I've heard a lot about you, too."

‎Chapter 31: Trust me Jessica woke up that morning with an unusual burst of energy, the kind that made her hum softly under her breath. For once, the world felt quiet — beautifully quiet. Her phone lay somewhere on the nightstand, face down, on silent. She didn’t even glance at it. ‎“God, this feels amazing,” she murmured with a satisfied stretch. “Waking up without that damn phone buzzing like it owns me.” ‎She padded into the bathroom, the marble floor cool beneath her feet. The scent of lavender filled the air as she began her morning ritual — cleanser, mask, steam, rinse. Each movement was deliberate, almost indulgent, as if she were washing off the remnants of yesterday’s chaos. Today was hers. ‎She had a meeting with Elizabeth later — a partnership discussion that, in Jessica’s mind, meant power. Control. A fresh start. ‎After the shower, she towel-dried her hair, grabbed her phone and bag, and still didn’t bother checking the screen lighting up with thousands of unre

Chapter 30:Cheers to poetic justice I watched the phone ring until it finally stopped. The silence that followed didn’t just sit in the room , it pressed on it. Heavy. Uncomfortable. Unspoken. Charles bent down without a word, his jaw tight as he picked his shirt from the floor. He slipped it on, buttoning each button with that same cold, controlled calm he used when he was pissed. He didn’t even look at me. "You're leaving?" I asked quietly. "The rain has stopped already. I’ll drop you home. Call your driver to pick up your car," he said flatly, like every word was being forced out of his mouth. I could tell he was angry — well, I was too. I stood slowly, fingers fumbling as I buttoned up my shirt. "Charles, I’m sorry, I— didn’t—" "Elizabeth," he cut me off sharply. "Put on your jacket. We’re heading to the car." I only nodded. My jacket was still damp from earlier, heavy and cold in my hand. We stepped outside. The rain had eased into a thin drizzle, the streetlights re

Chapter 29: I want you Elizabeth "Please—drive faster," Vanessa urged the driver as rain hammered the windshield. Night smeared the city into streaks of light and shadow; the tires hissed over wet asphalt. She fumbled in her bag, thumbed Richard’s number, and put the phone to her ear. "Hello?" "Mr. Williams." Richard's voice came cold and measured from the other end. "Hello?" "Mr. Williams. I—I'm afraid I have some not-so-good news." Vanessa's words were clipped; calm on the surface, with a tremor of fear beneath. A few seconds of static passed. "Spill it," Richard ordered, flat. "Someone's following me. I don't know who, but we have to be careful. Remember the noise we heard at your study? That was—" She stopped, swallowed the panic that wanted to break free. "That was very strange." A bitter huff escaped him. "How did you escape? How did you lose them?" "I lured them into a dark alley and slipped away by a back route. I also had some men create a distraction." Her v

Chapter 28: Are you jealous? Fortunately, Richard wasn’t close to me. If he had been pressed against me, if Jessica had walked in even a second earlier, that would have been a mess. A complete mess. "Yes, I was just leaving. Richard and I were only discussing work," I said, my voice calm, steady, like nothing was happening. I opened the rear door of my car. Jessica’s eyes lingered on me, sharp, searching, watching. She was suspicious. I could see it. But she had nothing. Not yet. "You should be on your way, Miss Alvarez. It’s getting late," she purred, her voice soft but her eyes cold. I gave a small smile, nodded, and got into the car. I didn’t even look back. I just drove. The night air outside felt like freedom. Fresh, wide, open. After that suffocating party full of fake laughs and expensive lies, breathing felt like a blessing. Red traffic light. I leaned my head against the cool glass of the window. Just resting. Just thinking. Just breathing.

Chapter 27: Leaving Already? The footsteps were already approaching closer; my heart thudded loudly against my ribs. No — I had to hide somewhere, but where? Fortunately, a heavy curtain hung in the corner, its folds swallowing the shadows. Maybe they wouldn’t find me there. Without wasting time, I scrambled to the curtain and pressed myself deep into its darkness. The study door creaked open. Richard and Vanessa stepped out, their eyes sweeping the room as if hunting for a loose thread of truth. Their gazes landed on the shattered glass cup scattered across the floor. “Was someone here?” Vanessa’s voice barely rose above a whisper. Richard’s gaze darkened as he paced the room, scanning every inch. He moved toward the curtain where I was crouched; my chest tightened with a cold, small panic. He reached for the fabric—a sharp knock cut through the air. He froze and glanced toward the door. “Go hide somewhere,” he ordered Vanessa. She slipped into a corner while Richard open

  • DEVIL IN A SILHOUETTE    Chapter 26: The Birthday Party

Chapter 26: The Birthday Party A Few Days Later (Aurora) A sleek black Porsche rolled to a smooth stop in front of the Williams estate. The evening air held a faint chill, carrying with it the quiet hum of luxury and old money. My chauffeur stepped out first, opening the rear door for me with practiced grace. I glanced at the mansion, this used to be my home, now these bastards have taken everything. The party decorations were… extravagant. Elegant, yes—gold-trimmed floral arches, tall crystal vases overflowing with white orchids, and an expensive string quartet playing softly near the fountain—but it all felt painfully curated. Beautiful in a way that lacked warmth. Like everything here, it wasn’t my taste. Too polished. Too soulless. Too Williams. I stepped out, the hem of my dress trailing like liquid dusk. It was a floor-length black satin gown with a low back and a slit running just high enough to whisper scandal. Simple. Sharp. Dangerous. I wasn’t here to blend in. I
