FAZER LOGINCASPIAN For the first time in ten years, I didn't wake up in the middle of the night, drenched in sweat. I had forgotten when last I slept this long until my phone buzzed on the nightstand, waking me up.My breath locked in my throat as I looked down to find Celeste tucked by my side. Her face was pressed against my bare chest with my arm wrapped protectively around her tiny figure. My gaze settled on her morning face and something stirred inside me. She looked so peaceful in my arms, like she belonged there. I held my breath, afraid I'd wake her up when my gaze darted to the bandage on my hand. She did this.Memories of last night came back in fragments and I forced myself to breathe. The nightmare was worse than usual, and this time, it felt so real that I almost lost my composure. The fire… the screams, the terrifying moment my mother's hand slipped as the fire devoured everything. The images felt so real, it felt like my mother was dying a second time. And then I felt her touch.
CELESTE It felt like something knocked the air out of my lungs the moment I stepped into the room. The sight of Caspian drenched in his own sweat with his chest glistening as if someone had just poured water right there made me panic. Is he sick? Should I call a doctor? My gaze shifted to the shattered glass on the floor and his bruised palm that dripped blood from probably knocking the glass over and yet he was still asleep. His chest rose and fell rapidly as he trembled in his sleep. This was the first time I'd see him looking so… humane. I stepped forward hesitantly, careful not to step on the broken glass that was shattered across the floor.“Caspian?” My voice shook as I reached the edge of the bed. A low groan tore from his throat with his jaw clenching so hard the muscles in his neck looked like they were ready to snap. He thrashed against the bed, his blood stained palm ruining the white bedsheets and I didn't know what to do.For a moment, I wanted to pull him into an embr
CELESTE Of all the times my stomach could have made that annoying sound, it chose to do so at this moment. I followed behind him as he led the way to the lobby. The hotel was beautiful I must say but the thought of skipping the inspection today when we could just get things done in one or two days and leave was infuriating.“Welcome Alpha, welcome, ma'am.” A few staff came to welcome us and I almost snorted. He seemed to be treating this as his personal vacation rather than what we came here for.“We've prepared your suite, please come this way,” the manager smiled as he led us to the elevator. The elevator door glided open with a chime revealing a private hallway with only one set of double doors at the end. We'd only be staying here for a few days. Is this really necessary? The manager stepped out first, swiping a gold keycard before pushing the door open.“The presidential suite, Alpha,” the manager stepped aside and swept his hands towards the door. “As requested, the kitchen ha
CASPIAN My knuckles were white against the leather of the steering wheel. I kept my gaze fixed on the road, but it was a lie. I was painfully aware of the woman sitting next to me.“I have a good memory for things that matter.” The words slipped out before I could stop myself and the look in her eyes—the flicker of something that looked more like curiosity than shock had nearly been my undoing. I had to turn the music up for a moment to break the tension. She didn't say anything after that, she just cleared her throat and stared out through the window. I wondered what was going through her mind but I didn't push things.I still haven't found out why paparazzi were waiting outside my house when she was leaving or who paid them to release the photos. Jason said he was working on it but until we figured things out, I didn't think getting too close to her was a good idea. She rested her head on the window and the soft snore that followed almost immediately told me she had fallen asleep
CHAPTER 34CELESTE I didn't sleep a wink all night. Hilary’s words of being away with a man like Caspian were imprinted in my head, ringing with every turn, making it hard to breathe. The sleep had only just started to kick in when my alarm rang and I couldn't help but groan in annoyance. Why the hell did we have to go so early, anyway? Pushing myself up, I prepared for the trip and made a mental note to get enough coffee.Exactly at 7:00, a text popped up on my phone screen. ‘I'm outside.’ I dragged down my heavy suitcase which was filled with the unnecessary dresses Hilary made me pack before a maid came to my rescue.A sleek black SUV pulled into the driveway and my mouth hung open. We're going on a business trip for goodness sake. The engine roared as the window rolled down and my heart did that annoying skip again.I expected to see a driver or Jason, since he rarely goes anywhere without him, but instead, it was Caspian behind the wheel.“Alpha…” the maids greeted as they strug
CELESTEThe board members left one after the other once the meeting ended and I couldn’t help the storm raging beneath my flesh. My eyes locked with Caspian one last time when he rose to his feet. “I’ll pick you up in the morning,” He said, already walking towards the door. What the hell was that? I didn’t need him to pick me up for the trip. I could drive myself or ask my driver to do so. Who does he think he is to control me however he pleases? My nails dug into my skin as I turned to look at my father. It was just the two of us now, and he looked just as disappointed as I was.“Can’t you see what the board are doing? How can you agree to this? Why would you even think of sending me on the trip and getting the project back on track? It’s like asking me to admit to a crime I didn’t commit. Don’t you get it?”My voice rose with each word and I couldn’t believe I was having this conversation with my father. He has been in this world for far too long to see what the boards are doing.“W
