The ride to campus felt longer than usual, even though traffic was light.

I spent most of it staring out the window, watching the snow-dusted streets slide by, my mind stuck in an endless loop and by the time the car pulled up outside the economics building, I was exhausted all over again.

Finals were looming, and I had a 9 a.m. lecture I couldn’t miss.

What a great time to have situationship problems.

I thanked the driver, grabbed my bag, and trudged through the slushy paths toward the lect

Is Amelia the girl who stole from Noah? He did call her by Mia name because he said that the girl reminded him of her friend Who’s name is Mia… this was very close and Noah being rough with her during his pay back would explain why Amelia is scared and battered.

The silence that followed felt deafening after everything that had just happened. "Are you insane," Noah sighed, rounding on me the second the door clicked shut. "You can't talk to them like that. Do you have any fucking idea who you just mouthed off to in there?" "I don't car—" He pinched my lips shut before I could finish, two fingers pressing against them hard enough to cut the rest of my sentence off into a muffled, indignant noise. Then he dragged me toward him by the same grip. "That mouth," he said, low, "is going to get us into shit tons of trouble one day." I swatted his hand away, glaring up at him even as my pulse betrayed me, kicking up at the proximity. "Then stop giving people reasons for me to use it." "Noted," he muttered, though he didn't look remotely sorry. We walked the rest of the way back to his place in silence, the adrenaline from the meeting slowly draining out of me with every step, leaving something more uncertain in its place. By the time we got insi

"Or am I wrong," he asked, staring the man down like he was daring him to deny it.Nobody answered right away. The whole table just stared back at him, blank, and for a second I genuinely couldn't tell if the silence meant Noah had gotten it completely wrong or completely right. Then the man started clapping. The sound echoing off the walls of that too-polished room until it felt like it was scraping against my skin."And here I thought you're not a very bright one," he said, shaking his head with amusement. "Glad to see I was wrong.""Answer the fucking question," Noah growled, not even slightly amused."When did you figure it out?"I watched Noah's jaw tighten, his eyes narrowing like he was replaying every single piece of this conversation back in his head, slotting it all together in real time."The second you fucking said his name," he sneered. "Took me a second to connect all the goddamn dots, but yeah. The second you said Ashford, I realized this whole shitshow wasn't about me

"We reached out to Mr. Ashford," the man announced, and the room seemed to still around those words. What?Beside me, Noah's frown deepened instantly."You did what," he asked. The man beamed. "Well, it only made sense. There's no version of this where we want to create unnecessary enemies with the Ashfords. Beside," he gestured loosely between Noah and the rest of the table, "one of the main reasons we brought you into the organization in the first place was to help forge ties there. Your father's name carries weight, Noah. You know that better than anyone.""That was before." Noah’s jaw tightened."Before knowing about the falling out, yes." The man's expression shifted slightly. "We're aware. It made things considerably more complicated, I won't pretend otherwise. A son estranged from a father we were hoping to build a relationship with isn't exactly the leverage we'd planned on."His gaze slid past Noah then, landing directly on me, assessing, and patient."But after the incident

Arguing wasn't going to change a single thing. I knew that, deep down, even as every instinct in me wanted to keep pushing. So I let it go, not because I'd made peace with any of it, but because I'd finally understood that peace wasn't something I was going to get handed to me. I just had to carry the uncertainty and keep moving anyway.Noah was discharged not long after that conversation and moved him out of the medical wing and into his actual place on the estate, his old place, the one he'd apparently had long before, tucked a little further from the main house than I expected. It was smaller than I thought it'd be, considering everything else about this estate screamed excess. Just a single room, really, a bed, a kitchen tucked into the corner, a window that looked out over a quieter stretch of the grounds than the one from the medical wing. It felt more like him, somehow. The problem was, once he was discharged, my guest accommodation disappeared right along with it."Guess yo

SARAPHINA °❀⋆.ೃ࿔*:・Time passed differently inside those walls than it had anywhere else I'd ever lived. Days blurred into a way I didn't choose but somehow fell into anyway, waking up in the place they'd given me, walking the gravel path to Noah's room before I'd even fully rubbed the sleep from my eyes, watching him get a little stronger every single day until the IV stand disappeared, until the wince when he moved faded into something barely noticeable, until he was walking the halls on his own instead of being wheeled or supported.I let myself believe, somewhere in those weeks, that the worst of it was over. That we'd survived the worse part, the stabbing, the blood, the terrifying uncertainty of whether he'd wake up at all, and that whatever came next would just be the slow, mundane work of healing. I actually let myself relax. Laughed more too and stopped flinching every time someone knocked on a door. I started sleeping through full nights again instead of jolting awake a

"Then what happened?” I asked.Anyone could see there was way more to their story.“Hm.”She took her time, tipping the last of the wine around the bottom of the glass and watched it slide."Honestly, for a while nothing, and that was probably why I convinced myself that I'd pulled him out and now he was just a person. But you can't scrub that much out of somebody."She touched the side of her head, just above the temple.“Then one night, we got robbed. It wasn’t even a proper heist, just some guy with a gun who clearly hadn’t thought his plan through, which was probably why I wasn’t scared. I’ve seen truly terrifying men in my life, so to me, he looked like nothing more than a boy holding a knife.”She scoffed out a soft laugh.“It didn’t help that I was wasted and must have said something to set him off, because the next thing I knew, he hit me. I remember crashing to the floor, hearing the grunt of a struggle, and then a string of hurried apologies. By the time my head stopped thro
