Anne-Marie’s P.O.V

Slender, fit, and blonde, he slows down when he approaches the bench I’m on. My head tilts back a little as I swallow the lump in my throat. I don’t recognize him at all. He towers and stares down at me, his lips break into a smirk. And with an amused scoff, he says, “You’re even more beautiful in person.”

Taken aback, I blink. My lips part to say something, but he drops so quickly into a squat, stretching a hand to me. “Hi, I’m Caleb. And you’re Anne-Marie… The Ice Queen.”

Diana’s P.O.VTears blind me quickly as I stare at Anne-Marie curled up in her bed, shaking and stroking her baby. My lips quiver. Fear pounds inside my chest. My gaze flicks up to meet Beatrice’s terrified gaze.“What happened to her?” She mouths to me, her eyes brimming with tears.Marcus. That’s what happened to her. I clench my fists so tight, my nails dig into my flesh. My jaw ticks. Without wasting another second, I storm out of her room, marching to the living room.“Diana?” Beatrice calls after me. But I only see Anne-Marie, looking disheveled and scared, as soon as I opened that door. What did that son of a b***h do to her?“Diana, where are you going?” Beatrice yells. My feet carry me faster. I flick the tears in my eyes, making a beeline for the umbrella stand. I grab the longest one and move.“Diana?!”I motion for the door, tightening my grip around the umbrella.“Diana, where do you think you’re going to with that?”“To break that idiot’s head!” I say through gritted te

Anne-Marie’s P.O.VThe hairs on the back of my neck stand sharp, shooting an agonizing chill down my spine as I stare into Marcus’ eyes. I’m not breathing, and I don’t show that I’m trembling. Marcus is Champ’s brother. Marcus is Champ’s brother. How? And how did he find out about Champ?Another wave of nausea hits me. I put a hand over my mouth to stop a retch. His brows jump. “Are you okay?”I need to be out of your sight. I need to never see you or your brother again; then I’ll be okay. He touches me. My body flinches on instinct as I sluggishly withdraw.Hurt crosses his features, but it disappears in seconds when I let him hold my hands. And as usual, he holds them delicately, brushing his thumb over the back of my palms. His eyes drop on my hands. I follow his gaze and stare at my rough hands shaking in his. My heart races with alarm. Exhaustion and weakness cling to my every muscle, making it hard to jolt out of the seat and run away from him forever.Slowly, I lift my eyes,

Memphis’s P.O.VI clench my fists, taking a steadying breath. As if to punish me, Norman runs over, curving his arm around my shoulders and putting the phone in my face. Russo sticks to me, holding my cake with care. And quickly, everyone crowds around us, bubbling with eagerness and curiosity. My heart is pounding; I’m not sure why. But I stare at my brother as he stares back at all of us, his brows lifted in surprise. My eyes roam his surroundings, searching for no one in particular. All I see is a sterile wall that tells me he’s still in the hospital.Even if he’s told me he’s interested in Princess—Anne-Marie, and is only still getting to know her, a part of me wants to know what he’ll say. Everyone saw him carry her. I saw him lose his cool because of her.“Is she there with you?” Norman questions.“Come on, Marcus, tell her to say hi to us. We just wanna see her face,” Avan whines, and everyone murmurs in agreement. I swallow hard.“Who told you lot I have a girlfriend?” He quir

Memphis’s P.O.V“Where is Marcus?” My dad questions, dismissing my call for help.“Dad,” I take a desperate step forward. “What’s up with the school’s board? Why the hell are those figure skaters coming back to the hockey arena?”He throws his hands up with an unbothered shrug. “Clarissa is in a much better position to answer that than I am. Her father is on the board… I run a tech company, not a college.”“But you donate funds to Northbridge,” I utter, hating his indifference. “You can do something about it.”“I’ve not been notified that my assistance is needed.”“Your assistance is needed. Your son is notifying you.” He exhales and scratches his temple, his brow jerking for a split second. His demeanor is too laid-back in his black two-piece knit set.My jaw ticks. My fist clenches around my phone as seconds go by and I wait for a response. If it were Marcus, he’d probably move mountains at the slightest distress. But it’s me and my ice hockey again. “Not your company. Not your cup

Memphis’s P.O.V“Whose jacket is that?” My girlfriend asks once the door shuts behind me.I work my jaw as I study her flickering expression. Her gaze falls to the gift bag. Suspicion brews behind her eyes, but instead of feeding her suspicion, momentum kicks into my feet, leading me toward my closet. “It’s mine,” I answer her.“Why am I just seeing it on you for the first time?”“It’s not the first time,” my mom pitches. “Memphis, come over here. I’m still talking to you.”“You weren’t talking to me, Mom,” I mutter dryly and stroll inside my walk-in closet. I leave the lights off, then yell, “You only said welcome back! Thanks for the warm welcome…”I drop the gift bag on a glass surface that still houses my finest watches. My feet keep moving, easily navigating through the dark like a mammal in its natural habitat. Up until a few months ago, I still lived here. I only moved out when the semester started. It was high time.“Come out here.” My mom calls.“Give me a minute,” I reply, s

Marcus’s P.O.VI lean over her bed, so close to her, looking into her mesmerizing green eyes.“Marcus?” Anne-Marie murmurs for the fourth time, blinking sluggishly. My heart skips, beating for her.“I’m right here,” I whisper, using my hand to brush her hair from her face and fighting to keep my eyes from falling on her lips. Her gaze is unfocused; she keeps turning her head—signs that the sedative hasn’t worn off. According to the doctor, she should be unconscious for roughly two to three hours, but it’s only been about thirty minutes. She hasn’t said anything other than calling my name and that of her baby. Not Maryanne this time. ‘Mary’ is what she’s been calling. I have a feeling she’s hallucinating. I’m totally for it since it lets me be this close to her without getting her usual indifference and saddened expression.“Mary,” she mumbles again, her eyes slowly welling up in tears.“You want to see your baby?” I ask as I catch her tears with my thumb, brushing her skin.“Mary…” sh
