CHAPTER THREE — LEARN BOUNDARIES

The table fell into silence.

Mom's eyes were pleading with me, Jenna was staring at her brother and Charlyn and Robert seemed unfazed by whatever we were doing.

“What the fuck did you just call me?” I asked again, rage seeping slowly through me.

“A selective brat. You have any issues with that?”

Geez! I swear I hate Lucian.

“Look, I'd prefer you mind your fucking business, Lucian Banks.”

“Mind your language, Ezran.” Mom chipped in. “He is your elder. Give him his res—”

“Mind your fucking business too, Mrs Banks.” I shouted, cutting her off. “You never asked for my opinion at all, so if my speaking to your stepson doesn't sit well with you, suit yourself.”

I picked up my backpack and stormed out of the dining room, rushing outside the house.

….

The morning after our first real standoff, the house felt like a battlefield. Every footstep echoed too loudly, every door creaked under my nerves. I kept imagining Lucian’s sharp gaze lurking behind every corner, waiting to punish me for some imaginary crime.

I stared at my reflection in the mirror as I slipped on my night robe. I looked haggard. I was trying to convince myself that it was overstudying but deep down, I knew the real cause of my sudden haggardness.

A soft knock on my door drew my attention back to reality.

“Ezran dear, we need to talk.”

Mom pushed the door open with a smile on her face. A nervous smile actually.

“If you're here to lecture me on how to talk to your new family, please don't start. I have a dozen school assignments to complete by tonight.”

She sighed loudly, taking slow steps towards me. She stopped in front of me, her eyes locked on mine.

“I'm sorry for everything. For forcing you to accept my new family.” She paused and brushed her fingers softly into my hair. “But please, I need you to make this work. I need you to accept Robert and his children.”

“Well, I'm sorry for how I sounded in the morning. I'll apologize to Robert and the girls for the disrespect.”

A smile curled up on her face and she pulled me into a hug, wrapping her arms around my waist.

“And Lucian. Won't you apologize to him?”

“Never.” I mumbled stubbornly.

She laughed softly, patting my back. “Come downstairs for dinner. I asked the maids to cook to your preference today.”

I gave her a slight nod.

Dinner was silent after my morning outburst. Jeanne chirped beside me, trying to fill the void with stories about her college friends, but I only half-listened. My mind kept drifting to Lucian. He didn’t speak much, as always, but there was a quiet intensity about him that made me hyper-aware of every movement, every word.

“Ezran, don’t look so grumpy,” Jeanne whispered, nudging my arm. “It’s dinner, not a death sentence.”

I forced a smile, nudging her arm back. She giggled, completely oblivious to the tension in the room.

And then I saw him. Lucian, sitting at the head of the table, coffee in hand, eyes following me like a hawk. It was infuriating. Everything about him screamed control: his posture, the sharp lines of his jaw, the dark intensity in his eyes. He could crush me with a word, and I hated myself for noticing the pull of it.

“Uh..I want to apologize for earlier on. That didn't speak well of my upbringing. I apologize.”

Robert gave me a calm smile, his large palms resting on mine. “I'm glad you owned up to your mistake, kid. I'm super proud of you and I'll reward you for being responsible.”

I nodded and turned my eyes to the girls. Charlyn shrugged her shoulders and went back to her meal, Jenna squeezed my palms softly.

My eyes drifted off to Lucian and I found him staring right back at me.

“Apology accepted,” he said flatly. No warmth. No inflection beyond the bare minimum.

“Yeah,” I muttered back, careful not to give him anything to use against me.

Two days in this shared household was already so much torture. Our interactions were minimal but electric. The environment was tense and choked up especially with the way Lucian was staring at me.

The way he observed me when I wasn’t paying attention—everything set me on edge.

Dinner was over and soon, everyone went to bed. I had taken my laptop to the living room; the house was quiet, the only light coming from the glow of my screen. I was deep in coding, fingers flying over the keyboard, when I sensed movement behind me.

“Ezran.”

My heart skipped a beat. I froze.

“I need to talk to you.” Lucian said, his voice, low and controlled, yet somehow cutting through the silence like a blade.

I swallowed hard. “Talk about what?”

“Your attitude,” he said simply, sitting on a couch, arms crossed. His presence was oppressive. I wanted to look away, but I couldn’t.

“My attitude?” I asked, trying to keep my voice steady, though my pulse was betraying me. “I’m not the one who spoke rudely first, you are the real predator.”

His eyebrows lifted. “I am no predator. You are the problem.”

I shot up from the couch, shoving my laptop aside. “Problem? You think I’m the problem? You don’t even know me!”

“I know enough,” he said quietly, stepping closer. His proximity was dangerous. My pulse raced, and I hated how aware I was of the warmth radiating off him.

“And you don’t know what it means to be part of a family like mine. You need to learn boundaries. Now or never.”

I opened my mouth to retort, but something in his eyes—something sharp, piercing, commanding, stopped me. He didn’t need to touch me to assert dominance; his presence was enough.

I stepped back, pretending to pick up my laptop, but really, I was trying to regain my composure.

“Fine,” I muttered, voice tight as I clutched my laptop to my racing chest. “Learn boundaries. Got it.”

“Good.”

His lips twitched, almost imperceptibly, and I wondered if he realized how close he had come to breaking me, not physically, but mentally.

I stared at the phone for half a second, then at Lucian, who was already watching me. My grip tightened slightly around the device before I brought it back to my ear.“Melinda?”Silence stretched for a moment.“…Ezran?” Her voice was too weak.My brows pulled together immediately. “Yeah. What’s wrong?”There was metallic noise and shouting in the background. “I…” her voice broke. “I think… there’s been an accident—”My heart dropped.“What?” I straightened fully, my chair scraping loudly against the floor. “Melinda, what do you mean accident? Where are you?”“I’m at…” her breath hitched. “I don’t even know, I… there was a car—”The line crackled and my heart skipped even more.“Melinda!”“I’m bleeding,” she whispered.Everything in me went cold.“Stay on the line,” I said quickly, already moving. “Don’t hang up. Can you hear me? Melinda, answer me.”“I’m here…”Her voice was fading very fast. Shit. “Where are you?” I demanded, grabbing my jacket without even realizing it. “Look arou

EZRAN’S POVI woke up slowly, numbness and tiredness registering in my body, like my body had returned before my mind did. I frowned slightly, eyes still closed as I shifted under the sheets. For a second, I just lay there, then the events of last night came rushing back. My eyes snapped open.I stared up at the ceiling, unmoving, my heart slamming against my ribs.“Do you want me to stop?”My fingers twitched slightly against the sheets.“Don’t stop, Lucian.”I exhaled slowly, dragging a hand over my face. What the hell was that? No, what the hell did I say to Lucian? Worse, he just smiled and asked me to go to bed.Geez… I'm losing my mind.I turned my head lazily, squinting at the clock on the bedside table. 11:08 AM.“Shit.” I cussed under my breath and sat up abruptly, the blanket slipping off my body as reality crashed in—I had morning lectures by 9:00 AM and had already missed them.Grabbing my phone quickly, I scrolled through the missed notifications, calls and messages, win

  • Dangerous Cravings: Sinfully Tangled With My Stepbrother    CHAPTER FIFTY — DATE II : DON'T STOP, LUCIAN.

EZRAN’S POVI didn't move. For a second, I stood frozen, staring at the jets lined up before me, my mind trying to catch up with what I was seeing.“This is an airstrip,” I said slowly.Lucian didn’t respond immediately. He stepped forward instead, his gaze fixed ahead like this was the most normal thing in the world.“Obviously,” he said.I turned to him, brows knitting together. “Then why are we here?”He glanced at me briefly, then back ahead. “We’re not done yet.”I exhaled quietly, running a hand through my hair as I followed him forward. The closer we got, the more real it felt—the hum of engines, the faint scent of fuel in the air and the low murmur of voices from staff moving efficiently around, pressed in at once. This wasn’t just for show, it was real.A man approached us, dressed in a fitted suit, posture straight.“Sir.”Lucian nodded once. “Is everything ready?”“Yes, sir. We’ll be cleared for takeoff in five minutes.”Five minutes? What was happening? I blinked in confu

EZRAN’S POVLucian walked away like nothing had just happened, and I stood there for a moment longer than necessary, staring at the door he had just walked through.“A date.”The word lingered in my head longer than it should have. I exhaled slowly and dropped back onto the bed, staring up at the ceiling. What did that even mean?….I didn’t get an answer or any sleep that night. By the time I finally drifted off, it felt like I had only just closed my eyes when a knock resounded in my ears.I frowned, shifting slightly.“Master Ezran?”I groaned under my breath, pulling the blanket slightly over my head.“Master Ezran, Mister Lucian said I should wake you.”I froze. Slowly, I pulled the blanket down.“What time is it?” I muttered, rubbing my eyes slightly.A slightly chubby maid walked in, flashing me a soft smile.“It’s seven-thirty, sir.”It was way too early. Why was Lucian bent on making me lose my mind?“Why?” I asked, my voice still thick with sleep. She gave me a confused look

  • Dangerous Cravings: Sinfully Tangled With My Stepbrother    CHAPTER FORTY EIGHT — TAKING YOU OUT

EZRAN’S POVThe screen didn’t change immediately. That was the worst part.My face stared back at me from above, clearer than I wanted it to be. Every angle was amplified beyond words. The crowd reacted instantly. A wave of screams erupted and I froze. Beside me, Erik let out a strangled sound. “Oh my God—”I couldn’t hear the rest, or maybe I just didn’t process it. My chest felt tight, like the air had thickened around me. My fingers curled slightly against the armrest as I stared up at the screen, unable to look away. This was too much.“Ezran,” Erik said again, his voice closer now. “We should—”“I know.” I cut in. My voice came out quieter than I expected. The screen finally shifted, cutting back to the stage, but it didn’t matter. The damage was already done. People around us were already turning, glancing and whispering. Some were subtle about it. Others weren’t.I stood up. “We’re leaving.”Erik didn’t argue. For once, he didn’t say anything dramatic or unnecessary. He just

It felt like I had just hung up the call with Erik, just stared at the ticket in my hand, and now—It was already here.I stood in front of the mirror for a second longer than necessary, adjusting the collar of my shirt before stepping back slightly. Quickly grabbing my phone, I hesitated for a brief second, then slipped it into my pocket before heading out.….Erik was already outside. Dressed, ready and visibly holding himself together by a thread.“You’re late,” he said immediately the moment he saw me.“I’m not.” I mumbled, staring at my wristwatch. “This is quarter past eleven.”“It’s a thirty minute drive from here. We'll be pretty late by the time we arrive.”“We won't.” I answered in defiance. He stared at me for a second, like he was debating whether to argue further, then shook his head.“Forget it. Let’s just go before I start overthinking this.”“You already are.” “Shut up.”I almost smiled. We walked into the garage and I pic
