Chapter 10

Katherine walked out of the building with Rita by her side, she was wearing a red dress, the one her mother bought for her, it was beautiful but plain, staring at it, you would know a lot of fortune was spent to get it.

Katherine had decided to wear this dress today because she wanted her mother to be with her, she wanted to be rescued from this marriage even if it felt impossible right now, but wearing this dress meant a part of her mother was next to her.

Immediately they stepped out of the building, the driver who was waiting in the car stepped down and opened the door to the back seat.

Rita stood behind Katherine, making sure she didn’t run away. “Get in.” She told Katherine to go before her, she loved this luxury for her daughter, but the thought of the groom being deformed was messing with her mind.

Katherine got into the car, she was used to people opening doors for her, her father’s driver was a very kind man, but he also died along with her parents in the crash, it was too heart wrecking to think.

She knew she was yet to go visit his family, her father had lost everything and there was not even one bit of fortune to give them, they must hate her, hate her father for taking the life of their father and husband.

Rita got into the car with her and the driver shut the door turning to the driver’s side of the car. “Put on your seatbelt and stop spacing!” Rita scolded Katherine was still in thoughts.

Katherine blinked, she slowly fastened her seatbelt and the driver started the car and drove off, while Rita adjusted comfortably on the chair.

“When is the young master returning?” Rita asked the driver who was focusing on the road, he glanced at her through the rearview mirror and Katherine wondered who she was asking about.

Is this about the groom? Katherine glanced at Rita and then at the driver, she also has lot of interest, to know who he was, no one has even mentioned his name, she had just been thrown into what she had no idea about.

“That hasn’t been disclosed yet.” The driver answered simply and Rita exhaled sharply, disappointed that she didn’t get the answer to her question.

The wedding is next week and the groom isn’t back Katherine’s forehead creased and she pressed her lips together. Does he even exist?

Katherine felt a harsh cold spread through her body, she had seen movies where the bride is married to a dead person, or some ghost of wealthy men and now a shiver ran down her spine at the thoughts of that.

She was curious, very curious to know more about this man, she wanted to know if she would take Celeb’s joking suggestion and flee, but if she does, where would she go?

“Would he show up for the wedding?” Rita quickly asked and Katherine paid attention to hear what response the driver would give, she was glad that the questions lurking in Rita’s heart were the same as the one in hers.

“That information is also disclosed.” The driver said and Katherine’s face burned in frustration, she had lots of questions that needed to be filled with answers, but this driver wasn’t giving any.

She knew her father’s driver didn’t have all the information whenever she asked him, but at the very least, he filled her in on the little he knew, he had told her where her parents were making plans to take her on her sixteenth birthday.

She had remembered begging him for a little tip and he told her he had overheard them when they spoke about it in the car, and she was so excited about the clue, but now this man was withholding important information and it was killing her.

“Can’t you just tell me the little you know?” Rita pressed on, she seemed more curious about this than Katherine, if she knew who the groom was, any information at all about the groom, and if it were something great than riches, then she would make Vivian get married instead of Katherine.

“How about the groom, your bosses son, do you know who he is? Have you seen his pictures? Is he deformed? Can he walk? Does he have an illness? Is he ugly?” She bombarded the driver with questions, questions Katherine was also curious to know.

“I am sorry, I can’t give you any information about that, I am newly hired and my only duty is to carry the bride to be to wherever destination she chooses.” The driver told her seeing how she was trying to get little information from him.

Rita groaned softly. “You should have said that from the start.” Rita leaned back on her seat and glanced at Katherine, then she furrowed her brows, her eyes darkened. “You better not mess this up, if you do, you would have to pay miserably for it!” She said with clench teeth.

Katherine swallowed hard and lowered her gaze, she knew what a threat was and this was definitely a threat, she doesn’t owe this lady anything and running away, fleeing from all these crazy things seem to be the best thing to be.

She closed her eyes and recalled the promise she had made at her father’s grave. She had promised to be with her father’s friend, to be obedient to them and to make them happy, but this wasn’t what she had expected.

Katherine glanced out of the car window, tears clustered in her eyes, tears she was hiding from Rita. Dad, I want to take back my promise to you.

She swallowed hard to send back the sob down her throat, she knew she had to be strong, she had lost everything, she wanted a hand to hold, but right now, there seem to be none.

She raised her eyes to hold back the tears, if only she has all the information, if only there were more to tell her, she should have prepared for what was coming, but there was nothing, just curiosity and blank lines.

I never pictured my life like this. She closed her eyes and the tears she was holding back rolled down her cheek slowly.
