CHARLENE'S POVI placed my hand firmly across my chest. "My heart is broken. My body is weak from losing so much blood. My mind cannot hold the memories anymore. The only way that I will regain control of myself is if I die again. If I survive this… maybe I might even be able to return to normal." "You're insane!" Xavier shouted as he grabbed my shoulder and yanked me toward him. He grabbed onto my face roughly as he stared me in the eye, his expression one of pure anger. "There's simply no way you could be such an evil person!" He threw my hand away violently, sending me stumbling backwards slightly. "Xavier, calm down." "Don't tell me to calm down! You are sick!" I frowned at his outburst, clenching my fists tightly. "I'm not sick! I'm not crazy! Everything has always been just too much!" "Charlene, please calm down!" His pleas were useless, however. My temper was beginning to flare with every second that passed. "Why can't you understand that I need this?" I screamed, causi
CHARLENE'S POVIt was as though there was a large, transparent dome overhead. It looked to be made out of glass instead of concrete. I looked around nervously as I walked carefully, wondering why I wasn't getting crushed by the amount of weight that was being added onto me at a rapid pace. Suddenly, the whole area around me began to shake lightly, causing me to stumble slightly. I raised my eyebrows in surprise, confused as to what was happening. It couldn't be an earthquake, surely? No way… Another quake shook the ground violently as I stared at the ceiling apprehensively, waiting for it to pass. When it did, however, it was replaced by a faint rumbling noise which grew louder and louder. I looked around in alarm, trying to figure out where exactly it was coming from. Suddenly the shaking intensified, making me almost lose my balance. I struggled to regain my balance before continuing on. After a few moments had passed, I finally noticed a figure standing before me. His arms hung
CHARLENE'S POVAs they entered the room, the man in the front stepped forward menacingly with his arm extended in front of the woman defensively. He shouted threateningly, "Where's the kid? Where is she?" The female wolf growled fiercely at him, "Keep your voice down, you idiot! If you wake her up, you'll never hear the end of it." He sighed irritably, "Fine…" he conceded reluctantly, although his eyes were still narrowed dangerously at her. "I hope she's worth it." As the two stopped a couple of yards away from me, I noticed a long cut across his chest which covered most of his shirt. He must be hurt badly enough to need medical attention! But what could I do to help? I couldn't heal the injury, and there was definitely no way for me to transport him anywhere without risking exposure. If he hadn't shown up already, I doubted he ever would. My eyes flicked between the three of them as the female spoke. "We have to find her, or we won't be able to save her." Her gaze was trained u
CHARLENE'S POV"Not exactly safe, but it is far away from here. There is a large town nearby that is home to the packs and the humans who live there are generally kind people. As long as you don't cross any borders, you should be okay." "What are they protecting, anyway?" The question slipped out before I could stop it. I glanced to the side and was relieved to see that she wasn't looking at me. That made me feel a little better. She shrugged, "I don't know the specific details of the protection, but everyone knows that it has a connection to something else. They say that this is responsible for the disappearance of one of their own." "Disappearance?""The Alpha, who was originally from the Wolf Pack. That's why we were forced to flee. But they've found another member since then… I don't know where though, the leader's office is locked." That made sense to me, but it still doesn't explain why everyone thinks they lost everything. "So, what are you doing helping us?" She seemed
CHARLENE'S POV"Where are you going? I haven't thanked you yet," I stated as I walked beside her, slightly panting from the run. I hadn't been running this long since I belonged to Mystic Moon Pack. Or maybe I had just forgotten how good it feels to run. She looked towards me with a puzzled expression, "What are you talking about? Didn't I just get you out of there?" "I know that, but I also meant, where am I supposed to go now? I can't stay in this place forever," I explained, sounding annoyed. She shrugged nonchalantly, "Why not come with us?" She turned towards me and flashed a smile. Her grin faded after I didn't respond, "Do you need someone to guide you or something?" I stopped in front of the gate and turned around to face her again, "No. I've lived here my whole life. I've never left, until yesterday. What kind of life could I possibly have? Besides, how can you trust me after what I've done?" She thought for a moment before replying, "Well, you did manage to save my lif
CHARLENE'S POV"What the hell?" Suddenly a figure lunged out of a door, grabbing the closest thing to him; a metal chair, throwing it to the side. His eyes widened as he recognized me immediately, "Oh s*it," his expression changing into one of complete panic as he ran towards me. "S*it! S*it! S*it! S*it! F*cking s*it!" My eyes darted frantically from side to side, trying desperately to avoid the knife aimed at me, "Hey, hey, easy. Easy! I'm unarmed!" I screamed hysterically, backing away, tripping over the loose grass. The stranger grabbed my arm painfully tight and pulled me backwards, dragging me behind him into the building, before closing the door quickly behind us. I stood stock still, trying desperately to catch my breath as the man stood in front of me with his hands clenched into fists. He appeared extremely tense, almost trembling. He breathed deeply several times before taking a step back, his breathing visibly evening out. "I… don't know what you're thinking. Or why do
CHARLENE'S POVI scowled and folded my arms across my chest, "I told you I'm sorry. Are you going to stop being mad at me now?" For a moment he stared blankly at me, seeming lost in thought. He seemed reluctant to reply, his face twisting slightly in annoyance, "What the actual f*ck… what happened?" He rubbed at his temples wearily. "I don't understand any of this." "It's complicated." I started shortly. He rolled his eyes, "Yeah, obviously," he muttered sarcastically. There was silence for a while, as I stared at him, trying to work out how the hell to explain what I meant without making it sound totally insane. I ran a shaky hand through my blonde curls. There weren't many things in the world I liked less than explaining anything. I finally sighed heavily and dropped my hand, turning my attention back to the man, "Where am I?" I glanced around briefly, trying to take in my surroundings. He studied me closely for a second longer before replying, "You're in one of the safe houses
CHARLENE'S POV"Sometimes the wolves have a problem with our relationship, I know that. Some even tried to attack me during the battle." He took a deep breath as a flash of regret crossed his features briefly, making his expression turn bitter. He seemed reluctant to continue talking about the matter further. I cleared my throat softly to interrupt whatever thoughts he was having, "Alpha Jaxton seems to think that we'll be okay with your presence here." I waited for him to respond, but he remained silent. I frowned. "Don't you have anything to add?" After several moments, he gave me a tired smile and chuckled lightly. "Sorry," he answered. "Let me catch my breath for a few seconds. I feel like I'm going to pass out any moment now." "It's fine," I assured him with a slight nod. "Take your time." He sighed in relief and rubbed the bridge of his nose before giving me a small smile. "Sorry again." "No, it's okay," I told him quickly, waving my hand to dismiss the apology. "What happ
