CHAPTER 6

CHARLENE’S POV

A pair of black eyes was the first one that I saw after a long time of being stuck in the same dimension where no one else was present. The owner of those eyes slowly made her entrance. She was a woman who was a few centimeters taller than me. Her skin was unbelievably fair and yet pale.

"Say your wish; I’ll grant it," she said. Her voice was angelic, and even her appearance screamed perfection, as if she were a goddess.

"Revenge. Rebirth. Redo," I answered without any second thoughts.

In less than a minute, a gem that she held shone brightly, which reflected the fragments of my memories. Most of it was the part where I felt infuriated.

"I’ll be giving you, Charlene, a second chance to live on with the same identity. Your memories of the past will remain, but that won’t be the case for those that you treasure," she explained.

Snapping back to reality, I let Xavier accompany me over to the Mystic Moon Pack since I wasn’t confident that I would be able to handle the severe pain that I might get once I saw Jaxton for the first time in this second life of mine. However, by the time we arrived there, we overheard from the people we crossed that Jaxton was in the hospital.

My feet were throbbing with electric shocks as they were having difficulties with the shoes that I wore, but that didn’t matter right now. With a troubled mind, I insisted that we hurry over to the pack’s hospital.

Standing on the other side of the street, I saw Chandler walking through the door’s threshold. Knowing that Jaxton might be confined inside, I can’t figure out why Chandler had such a wide smile.

Or maybe I knew the reason behind it and refused to believe it.

"Aren’t you going in?" Xavier asked me as soon as the lights turned green.

I shook my head twice. "I’m not sure if the Alpha would recognize who I am."

Xavier held both of my shoulders as he forced me to turn around to face him. "Snap out of it, Charlene. How could the Alpha of that pack even know who you are? I doubt that he even has a clue that you exist," he said.

Jaxton doesn’t know me?

How is that possible when Xavier does?

Could this be a challenge from the goddess—that I should find a way to make Jaxton mine?

I held onto Xavier’s forearm as I got dizzy with all of the thoughts that lurked within my head, which I had to carefully consider. "Then, what was the point of visiting the Alpha?"

He shrugged, then gently removed my hand from his. "You were the one who wanted to come here. I tagged along since it’s risky to be alone with someone you’re not closely affiliated with."

A voice of a man screaming in pain reached us from this distance, which made us halt our conversation. I glanced at Xavier for a second before the two of us hastily went there.

I was confused by how the doctors in here weren’t flustered at all, as if the voice of someone groaning was common for them, to the point that it would be enough to just ignore those sorts of people.

Roaming around in search of its source, we found ourselves heading down the hospital’s basement.

It was quite dim, and the smoke inside made it hard for me to breathe. The man still continued to wail, like he had just lost someone dear to him.

"Are you alright?" Xavier went ahead of me without making a sound.

I remained standing near the door so that I could easily escape when something unexpected occurred.

By the time that Xavier extended his hand to the man, I immediately felt chills down my spine the moment that our eyes met. There’s no way that I’d be mistaken just by looking at the shiny color of his white hair; it’s him.

"J-Jaxton?" Fear was evident in my voice as I stuttered when I mentioned his name.

His eyes were glistening with their golden hue. "Who the fuck are you to call me casually?"

Xavier blocked my way when I was about to go near the Alpha. "I apologize for the rudeness of my friend on her behalf, Alpha Jaxton. She just tends to be anxious whenever she hears someone scream; she didn’t intend to—"

"I don’t need your explanation, Xavier. Get her out of my sight." Jaxton cut him off.

"Why do you always choose to suffer alone? You can hurt me as many times as you’d like. Just don’t keep everything to yourself," I said with a slight voice crack.

Jaxton’s eyes flinched with both anguish and anger. "Xavier, don’t make me repeat myself. Get her out unless you want to see her die in front of you."

It seems like my words were still insufficient to reach his soul.

"Let’s go; people are about to come here," Xavier whispered to me before he dragged me out of the basement.

With one last glance, I bid a short farewell to Jaxton. I’m sure that this wouldn’t be the last time that we’d see each other. I don’t care if I have to fight against Chandler or whoever; I’ll do everything it takes for Jaxton to get back to me.

Xavier released his grip on me when we reached the exit of the hospital. He placed his hands on his pocket while he let his head lean on the wall, shutting his eyes with a quick gulp.

"What were you thinking back there, Charlene? Are you that desperate to gain the attention of the Alpha, even if you already knew that his mate is Chandler?" Xavier asked with such an infuriated tone.

I sighed, making my shoulders move. "They aren’t mates, Xavier. They will never be mates. I don’t know what happened while I was away, but one thing is for sure…"

Along with the rustling of the trees, Chandler passed by.

"Jaxton was once mine. Jaxton would always and solely be mine, even in the future," I continued.

"That’s a pity though. The Alpha doesn’t have any memories left of you, Charlene."
