JACE BALDWIN'S POV

"Better than having to deal with cremating your body." I shrugged, turning my back against him.

There was a moment of silence that was only interrupted by the man's heavy breathing and whimpering on the floor.

What a baby! Darren could've sent children from preschool, I'm sure those little boys would do a better job at being tough than this weakling of a man.

"We were ordered to go after Nelson, Taylor Wilson, and the commander. All the information we needed was given and the time of the attack."

I stayed silent, my eyes searching the dark cellar and the empty hallway, the man behind me wheezed out words I wasn't interested in hearing.

"Who was your informant?" I growled in a deadly low yet terrorizing voice that caused his heartbeat to stop for three seconds before it resumed beating but the new rhythm was running ten beats per second.

"I don't know man, I don't know who the boss was relating to." He stuttered causing me to crane my head to give him a nasty look

  • Dare To Mate   Chapter 163 - GRAND ARRIVAL

JACE BALDWIN'S POVThe sound of metals clanking against each other mixed with the groans and painful breathing of my prisoners echoed through the dark, quiet and lonely dungeon walls as I stood in front of the silver coated metal door, waiting for the guard to finally get it together and open the damn door."He hasn't uttered a word since he was thrown in here." The tall guard mutters with a chuckle as he pushes open the door, he's heavy black leather gloves in place to protect him from getting burned by the silver on the iron."How many people had dropped down here to see him?" I asked, shoving my hands deep into my black pants pockets, my shoulders square as I made sure to keep my voice as cold as a snowman. Even though the place was as dark as anything dark could represent, I could see the man curled up like a huge ball on the far end of the room, his body shaking from the cold cement floor."Nobody in particular, just the omegas routinely dropping off their food with the other pri

  • Dare To Mate   Chapter 162 - SPECIAL GUEST

JACE BALDWIN'S POV Mother's words kept ringing in my ears and I felt guilty for the way the Pack treated a little girl that had just lost her family.Even though I was already old enough to take over the Pack affairs when my father gave in to the final effect of his bloodline curse on him and my mother was there to guide me through the darkest paths, I still felt lost and alone to not have my father smiling down at me with pride brimming in his eyes as he performed the Alpha Ceremony. My Mother was there when I took over the reins of the Pack administration and leadership, she made sure I had all the help and support a new Alpha could need, she asked how my day went and she was always there whenever I needed her to hear me bitch about how tough my work was when I first started. She was there and ready to tell me what I wanted and what I didn't want to hear. But, here was Carly on the other hand, lost and alone in the world with one friend who was just as helpless as she was.Why a fa

  • Dare To Mate   Chapter 161 - I'M HERE FOR YOU

CARLY WOODS POV "You were what?" I asked in a whisper yell, my eyes widening like a saucer as I stared at him in horror."My pack was attacked by a group of rogues a couple of weeks back." He mumbled lowly, his eyes were sad and covered with the intensity of the pains and torment he was probably feeling. My heart went out for him because I knew what losing a parent felt like and judging from the looks on his face, he lost more than just his parents."How bad?" I whispered, my left hand lying gently on his knees in a consoling hold, Kyle turned his head sideways for a split second before turning to face me again his eyes were bloodshot but no tear was in there."It was a clean attack, a planned one with one of our own foolishly selling out information to them rogues with no care about what the fate of the Pack will be when those bastards come calling with death intent on their eyes and claws."I drew in a quick breath at the implications of his words, they had a sleazy soul who was fr

"You sure?" Kyle asked, taking tentative steps towards me, his brows arched in concern."Yeah, everything is fine, perfect even, I'm fine," I mumbled, stumbling over my words as I waddled over to the bathroom."But you don't look the part, Carly. I've stood here for like what, ten minutes? If not more and you made no move to indicate you were aware of my presence.""Oh, that... Well, I um, I was just um..." Kyle was way too young to be dragged into my relationship drama or my nonexistent relationship. What was my stand now with this new second mate thing? Was it up to me to accept him and start feeling all mushy moshy inside or reject him and hit the repeat button on the pains I felt after Nate's rejection?"I know it's not my place to pry but I'm worried about you Carly. I know something happened that got you so worked up and dead to the physical world." I made space on the window seat and pat the spot beside me, signaling for him to sit. I cupped his cheeks, my eyes searching his b

  • Dare To Mate   Chapter 159 - SCARED

CARLY WOODS POV I retired to my room for the remainder of the day and I took turns shuffling between my bed and the window seat. After Darren angrily stormed out of the sunroom, I cried for hurting his feelings, and for not being brave enough to tell him about my parents. It's not that I didn't want to tell him, it's just that I'm scared. Yes, I'm scared senseless.I know I didn't tell him the true version of my back story nor did I confide in anyone here about where I came from but, Darren was smart, what if I opened up to him and he tracked down the dead of my parents to Brookside? What if he made findings and connected the dots to Jace?It would be easy for a man like him to look into anyone, with all the men he had spying on Brookside Pack and maybe other werewolf Packs. He could get a detailed file of my entire life with just a snap of his finger, get all the information there is, even down to my shoe size or the last time I had a saloon appointment."My goddess, did he already
