“Well,” Addison says, clearing her throat again. “I realized something. After we, um… said goodbye.”

“That you’re in love with him? Get in line! You’re going to have to join the other fifty women lined up around my apartment block everyday,” Skye says flatly.

“No—no, it’s nothing like that,” Addison rushes to explain. “It’s just… there’s a gala I have to attend next week. He knows, the company gala and Joshua will be there because he’s well, the M.D. I didn’t think about it until my friend, um, my coworker, he said something. And it’s just—we’re supposed to bring a plus one, and if I show up by myself, I think it would be—”

“I’m coming anyway,” Javan says with a tiny shrug, cutting her off.

Addison blinks at him. “What?”

“I said I’ll come.” Javan replies before adding it as an afterthought. “And I can be your date.”

“Oh,” Addison says. “Okay. Um, cool.”
