“I don’t really get it, Soph! I mean, come on! How can you not have a whole ass skincare routine when your skin is always looking like you have the ASG?!”
Sophia laughed at her co-worker slash vanity mirror partner, Jelly, with her nightly schedule of ranting about her skin right before work starts. “I told you so many times already, Jelly, that I don’t have the budget for it. Woman, if I have that much money to spare, why in the hell will I be using them on expensive, non-essential products?” She shook her head, still laughing. “Plus, I wouldn’t argue with that ASG you’re saying because Mr. Aaron Warner is fine as hell and we just finished our date.”
“I don’t know if you’re just too direct to the point, Soph, or you’re already flexing about yourself; but dang, woman, chill!” Jelly laughed too. “And I still don’t get how you incorporate your fictional men into our conversations so easily, seriously! We’re talking about after-sex glow here and you’re talking about a man who you can only picture in your head!”
Jelly was the first person who became her friend here in Soul’s Secret. A woman with her ever-powerful body features, she looks dominating in her almost six-foot frame. Except for the fact that they both need to share the same vanity mirror where they get themselves ready for work, Jelly is a very jolly person who can have anyone she wants to be her friend in an instant. She adored how Jelly likes her personality and how she admires her as a whole. Their personalities really clicked perfectly with one another and the rest is almost history now. She just loves and enjoys this before-work banter they always have.
She then grinned and clasped her choker on. “I keep telling you to read because that’s the only way I can introduce you to my boyfriends.”
Jelly let out an exaggerated surprised look. “Oh, my goodness, Clarissa Angela Sophia! I can never ever fathom how you and the word ‘boyfriends’ go well together in a sentence!” she exclaimed in her fake English accent.
“Oh, my Lady Jaylene, you know I have like fifty of them!” she also exclaimed with her fake English accent, fanning her face with her hand.
They were both laughing as they went out and started their job—it is going to be a long night for the both of them, but at least it started right.

When Sophia started here in Soul’s Secret, the first thing that ever came into her mind was the fact that she was very thankful for her memorization skills. Having excellent memorization skills made half of her job easy and the rest is something she continued to perfect by practicing on her actual job.
Being a hostess in a five-star club that is almost exclusive only to the rich is neither hard nor easy. At least based on her experience, she finds the job rather challenging than anything else. Plus, what she said about no monkey business was guaranteed and there was no safer place than being in a club where almost all the hostesses are treated with much respect as the guests.
Unlike the misconception about hostesses especially at clubs and casinos, their main job description here—and probably her favorite part of all her evenings—is to welcome VIP guests from all around the world. This is where her memorization skills are needed because she needs to know things about her guests and make a conversation out of who they are and how they are for the recent events of their lives.
Never in her life did she ever imagine knowing and meeting these high personalities. Thinking that she is just a simple college student who just wants to be a teacher makes it more impossible to believe.
“Good evening, Nakamura-sama. How was your trip to Singapore?”
Her client, Mr. Nakamura, is one of her first clients during her early weeks working. The Japanese honorific “-sama” is the proper way to address him with high respect. She would constantly be the one to assist his group whenever they come to the club and he already insisted with the management to make her his hostess every time he comes to the club. She appreciated that because he was one of her best clients to accompany.
“Even how many times I come here, I’m still always surprised by your questions.” The older man chuckled. “My trip to Singapore was great and I sent pictures to my wife. She really loved that even though we are at this age. Thank you for suggesting I do that, young Sophia.”
“It’s my pleasure to help, Nakamura-sama. Right this way, gentlemen.” It warmed her heart that he did take on her suggestion. She smiled and led the gentlemen to their private room.
The older man asked her to stay for a while and she did. They conversed more about his trip and his wife while the other gentlemen are busy choosing what they want to have tonight. This is one of the few highlights of her work that she gets to enjoy so much.
Right on the clock of her ten-minute limit, she excused herself and waited for more of her clients.
The structure of Soul’s Secret as a whole club is a little more complex than any other club. Aside from the general club where you can picture people dancing to loud music, the club offers private rooms where their VIP clients often come to. They may or may not have dancers and entertainers. She meant what she said about the club being almost exclusive for the rich because the general club she mentioned? That dance floor is filled with actors, models, and other wealthy personalities.
It is funny how on her first days at work she always got starstruck with anyone she came face to face with. It was one of the hardest parts of her job since she needed to be as professional as she can muster, but also the funniest.
“Sophia!”
She looked to whoever called her name and she almost gasped when she saw Jelly running towards her. They cannot run in the VIP section hallways!
“Soph! Oh, thank goodness!” Jelly was still catching her breath when she grabbed her arms. “You once welcomed a client named Sage Michaels, right?”
Sage Michaels—a businessman who is heavily involved with the Ortega family. The Ortega family is one of the richest in the country and, as far as she remembers, she has only once seen a family member from that clan. That is also the reason why she knows Mr. Michaels. He simply came to fetch the Ortega woman she met.
“Yes, I know him. What happened?” She did not mean to panic, but she can even hear the worry in her voice herself.
“Nothing bad happened, but I terribly need your help.” Jelly took another deep breath before looking at her pleadingly. “You’re more knowledgeable about them than me, so please swap clients with me. I know your list of guests tonight!”
Holy cow—swapping of clients is prohibited, but she cannot let Jelly be in trouble!
Navier's frown deepened further as he continued reading the news. This is not what he wanted to happen, but, damn it, the Universe is really testing his patience because it keeps giving him the opposite results of what he has in mind. He almost killed a guy and things are still not in favor! He cursed out loud again but refrains from destroying anything. His sister will be the one to kill him if he destroys anything from his office ever again. He and his older sister, Nicole, are the youngest of the fifth generation of the Ortega clan. Both having the passion and skills for technology engineering, they both built their own company and soon empire named Tech Today. Everything is good between them just as long as he does not trash his very own office just because he was mad or just feels like doing so. “Sir Navier, Sir Sage is on line three,” his secretary announced after knocking. Her secretary could have just told him via intercom and maybe she already did, but he was the stubborn
Sophia was officially having her first ever “what in the hell is actually happening right now” moment. She simply wanted to go on with her night and end her shift as peacefully as she always does, but how can do that when a crazy man almost jumped off the balcony?! Forget everything else, she was not about to let anyone die on her watch even if the person wanted it so badly. Not ever! She had to take a moment to breathe because her mind was already going overloaded with everything that just happened. No one can blame her for her instinct to act up as fast as it did. Now that she had a better time to process what was happening, even though the man looked like he was about to jump, there was the possibility that he was just enjoying the night that way. Yes, enjoying the night, but the man was too drunk to know better. Accidents could still happen and, by how he looked so relaxed, and as if ready to just go wherever, he could have easily been knocked down by the breeze. Again, she was n
Sophia’s full name is Clarissa Angela Sophia Diwa and it has been her name for almost six years now. It was the name given by her foster mother Mrs. Diwa, and it was the first of all the amazing things she has given her. There are no laws that forbid the foster parents to change their adoptive child’s name, and her home orphanage actually discloses that to them in the seminars they have to attend to finalize the adoption process. Though most of the couples that are usually interested in adopting do not really mind about the names and such, Mrs. Diwa took that chance and gave her new names. Yes, gave her new names instead of changing her name completely. Back in the orphanage, she simply went by her name 'Angela' as it was the name given to her by the nuns heading the institute. There were no specifics as to why her name was Angela, but she was never the curious one to know if there were any reasons for her name or not. She was Angela because she was Angela, well, until Mrs. Diwa add
Navier, for the first time in years, was sure that he had a dream—a dream about Angela. Angela is their childhood friend. He, Angela, his sister Nicole, and Sage have been together ever since they were kids. Even though Nicole and Sage are older by a few years, they really do not have any other choice but to stay together with them. Sage is the son of their parents’ longtime head of security, and Angela is the daughter of their close neighbor. All of them were inseparable since they reached puberty, and that was exactly why he has been fixated on his “love” for her. She was the first girl in his life and the one that mattered most. He has always pictured her beside him even when they grow up to be adults. He wanted to make sure that she would end up with him no matter what. He had been so fixated on her that he did not see other women the same way. It was toxic. He was toxic. He did not know how to properly "love" her. He showed his "loved" by scaring every man in her life, to mak
It has only been a week since the unfortunate night when Sophia saved Navier Ortega, and she was already receiving way too many business cards from him. So many that she had to label that night to be “unfortunate” because it made her conscience a wreck and he even kept on insisting, almost like harassing her, to let him repay her. She still could take off her mind that he could have died that night, and he was reminding her of that every single day with his business cards. This is one of the days that she hated her strong imagination more than anything else. Yes, Navier was safe and nothing happened to him, all his business cards for the past week were her proof of that, but picturing his lifeless body on the sidewalk from jumping off the balcony once still gave her nightmares. She was very glad that he was alive and well to have her reminded daily with his business cards, but she just simply wanted to clear and free her mind from that almost jumping-off balcony scenario. She could o
Sophia does not understand what was happening right now nor why was it happening. She was just about to leave her house and head to the city’s library to finish her requirements when she was suddenly cornered by someone who introduced himself as a lawyer. She had no choice but to let him in for the conversation he was asking for. She was so confused and practically stunned that all she understood from him was that she was about to lose her house. For the first time in years, she wanted to break down. She was having an anxiety attack from everything that was happening too fast. She wanted to ugly cry every emotion she has out of her system, but she found herself unable to shed even a single tear. She simply cannot feel her entire body as if she went numb. “Now that everything is clear, Miss Diwa, you have a month to take your things out of this apartment. My client also advised that you also hire a cleaner to disinfect the place. Have a nice day.” Her body started shaking that she
“I know people who can recommend us to some legit lawyers, but I know already that they will cost a lot. We can try some public ones but I don’t think that that is very advisable right now. What if they rig the system and bribe whoever public lawyer we get?” Sophia cannot stop herself from biting her finger. She did not mean to tell anyone about her problem, but nothing can really get past Jaylene. She hoped and prayed that she would not notice anything, but the woman was too sharp for her own. The moment she got to work, she already knew that something was off about her. She did try her best to change the subject, but her friend was someone she cannot really win against. The way she worries for her made her tell her everything. She did not want to stress her too. Everything happened just this morning and she told Jelly all about it, and after letting it all out, she felt better as it lessened all her burden at once. "Good thing today's a Saturday. I can't picture you alone in your
Breathing deeply, Sophia said the nth “thank you” to Miss Minchin which already made the sweet librarian laugh, and told her that one more “thank you” and she will be banned from entering the library for the rest of her stay in the university. That just finally made her laugh too. It took her a hot moment to sink everything in her and to understand that she was already having a mental breakdown. If it were not for Miss Minchin, she does not know if she would have calmed down. The kind librarian was ever patient with her, and now they are outside the university getting some ice cream. She thought about attending her classes, and she was supposed to insist on it, but Miss Minchin highly disagreed with her and made sure she was not to return to their department building. She was advised to take it easy today, and the sudden emergency university-wide faculty meeting that was called made it easier for her to actually leave the university. She does not know what it was for, but she did not
