Chapter 9

Lana – POV

The table falls silent.

Four pairs of eyes are now on me.

Daniel looks confused.

Selene looks curious.

And Ethan…

Ethan looks completely calm.

Like he didn’t just announce to everyone that I’m having dinner with him tonight.

My heart is beating so loudly I’m surprised no one else can hear it.

Daniel breaks the silence first.

“You already have plans with Lana tonight?” he asks his brother.

Ethan nods once.

“Yes.”

Daniel glances at me.

“You didn’t mention that.”

Because I didn’t know about it.

I force a polite smile.

“Mr. Hale asked me earlier to discuss some restructuring details.”

The lie comes out surprisingly smoothly.

Ethan’s eyes flicker with quiet amusement.

Selene watches both of us carefully.

Then she smiles.

“Well, work dinners are important,” she says lightly.

But something about the way she says it feels like she doesn’t completely believe it.

Daniel shrugs.

“Fair enough.”

Lunch ends soon after.

But the tension doesn’t disappear.

If anything, it grows heavier.

As we stand, Daniel says cheerfully, “I’ll see you tomorrow morning then, Lana.”

“Of course.”

Selene turns to Ethan.

“We still have that event tonight.”

“I’ll join you later,” he replies calmly.

Her eyebrows lift slightly.

But she says nothing more.

Instead she gives me one last assessing look before walking away.

Daniel follows her.

Now only Ethan and I remain standing near the table.

The moment they disappear around the corner, I turn to him.

“You just invited yourself to dinner with me.”

His expression remains calm.

“You’re welcome.”

“That wasn’t a compliment.”

His mouth curves slightly.

“I know.”

I lower my voice.

“Everyone saw that.”

“Yes.”

“You shouldn’t do things like that.”

“Why?”

“Because your fiancée was sitting right there.”

His expression changes slightly.

A faint shadow crossing his eyes.

“Selene is… a family arrangement.”

“That still makes her your fiancée.”

“Technically.”

I cross my arms.

“This is exactly why last night shouldn’t have happened.”

He studies me carefully.

“You regret it.”

“No.”

The word leaves my mouth instantly.

His eyes soften slightly.

“But you think it was a mistake,” he says.

“Yes.”

He nods slowly.

“That’s unfortunate.”

“Why?”

“Because I don’t.”

My stomach tightens.

Ethan steps closer.

Not enough for anyone across the room to notice.

But close enough that my pulse immediately reacts.

“You’re still thinking about it,” he murmurs.

I look away.

“That’s irrelevant.”

“Is it?”

“Yes.”

His gaze drops briefly to my lips.

Then back to my eyes.

“Then dinner tonight should be easy.”

I sigh.

“Ethan…”

“Yes?”

“You can’t keep doing this.”

“Doing what?”

“Looking at me like that.”

His voice lowers.

“Like what?”

I hesitate.

“Like I belong to you.”

For a moment he says nothing.

Then something changes in his expression.

Something darker.

Something more possessive.

He steps even closer now.

Close enough that my back almost touches the table behind me.

“Maybe that’s because,” he says quietly,

“I’m starting to feel like you do.”

My breath catches.

“That’s ridiculous.”

“Is it?”

“Yes.”

“You spent the night with me.”

“That doesn’t mean anything.”

His eyebrow lifts slightly.

“Doesn’t it?”

“No.”

He studies my face for a moment.

Then his voice softens slightly.

“Look at me and say that again.”

I hesitate.

Because if I do…

I’m not sure I’ll believe it myself.

But before I can answer, a voice interrupts us.

“Ethan?”

Selene.

She stands at the end of the room, watching us.

Her expression is calm.

But her eyes are sharp.

Very sharp.

Ethan steps away immediately.

The distance between us returns.

Professional.

Safe.

Selene walks toward us slowly.

“I forgot my phone,” she says.

Her gaze moves between us.

“You two seem… busy.”

“We were discussing the restructuring plan,” Ethan replies calmly.

Selene smiles.

“Of course.”

But something about the way she says it makes my stomach twist.

Because she doesn’t look convinced.

Not even a little.

She turns to me.

“Enjoy your dinner tonight, Ms. Vale.”

Her tone is perfectly polite.

But the meaning underneath it feels like a warning.

Then she turns and walks away again.

Leaving Ethan and me standing there.

I exhale slowly.

“She knows something is going on,” I whisper.

“Maybe.”

“That’s not good.”

“No.”

I rub my forehead.

“This situation is a disaster.”

Ethan doesn’t look worried.

If anything…

He looks almost amused.

“You’re overthinking.”

“Am I?”

“Yes.”

I stare at him.

“Your fiancée just caught us standing two inches apart.”

“Technically it was three.”

“That’s not the point.”

He chuckles quietly.

“You worry too much.”

“And you don’t worry enough.”

“Maybe.”

Then he leans slightly closer again.

His voice drops.

“Seven tonight.”

“What?”

“Dinner.”

“You’re assuming I agreed.”

“You didn’t refuse.”

“That’s not the same thing.”

His eyes darken slightly.

“You’ll come.”

My pulse quickens.

“You sound very confident.”

“I am.”

“Why?”

A slow smile appears.

“Because you’re curious about me.”

He pauses.

Then adds quietly—

“And I know you felt the same thing I did last night.”

My heart betrays me by beating faster.

Because the worst part is…

He’s right.

And that’s exactly what makes this so dangerous.

  • Dating The Wrong Brother   When the Noise Fades

Chapter 37 Lana – POV The building is finally quiet. For the first time in two days, the endless noise has stopped. No reporters shouting questions. No investors calling every ten minutes. No board members demanding emergency meetings. Just silence. I’m sitting in my office long after most employees have gone home, staring at the city lights outside the window. Dubai looks peaceful from this height. Which is ironic. Because inside this building, nothing feels peaceful. The press conference helped. The headlines are already shifting. Now the articles talk about the restructuring results instead of my past. But the damage isn’t completely gone. And Selene is still out there. Planning something. A knock on the door breaks my thoughts. “Come in.” Ethan steps inside. He closes the door quietly behind him. “You’re still here,” he says. “So are you.” He walks farther into the room, loosening his tie slightly. “You handled the press conference well.” “You did most o

Chapter 36 Lana – POV By noon, the situation has become impossible to ignore. The headlines about my past are spreading quickly. Financial news outlets. Corporate blogs. Even social media accounts run by business analysts. Everyone suddenly has an opinion about my career. Most of them are wrong. But that doesn’t stop the damage. I’m sitting in Ethan’s office reviewing another article when Daniel walks in. “Well,” he says. “This escalated quickly.” “That’s an understatement.” He drops his phone on the desk in front of me. Another headline appears on the screen. “Consultant Behind Hale Industries Restructuring Linked to Controversial Corporate Collapse.” I close my eyes briefly. “That project was five years ago.” “I know.” “The company was already failing before I got involved.” Daniel nods. “But the media loves simple stories.” “And this one is simple.” “Powerful CEO.” “Controversial consultant.” “Corporate romance.” I sigh. “That sounds terrible when you s

  • Dating The Wrong Brother   The Hidden Contract

Chapter 35 Lana – POV The next morning begins with silence. Not peaceful silence. The kind that comes before something explodes. When I step into the executive floor of Hale Industries, the atmosphere feels tense again. More tense than yesterday. Which shouldn’t be possible. But apparently, things can always get worse. I reach my office just as my phone buzzes. Daniel. “Come to Ethan’s office,” he says immediately. “Good morning to you too.” “This isn’t a social call.” “What happened?” “Just come.” The call ends. That’s never a good sign. ⸻ When I enter Ethan’s office, both brothers are already there. Daniel stands near the desk, arms crossed. Ethan is reviewing something on his laptop. The tension between them is obvious. “What’s going on?” I ask. Daniel doesn’t answer immediately. Instead, he places a folder on Ethan’s desk. “You want to explain this?” he asks. Ethan looks up. “What is it?” “Something I found in my office last night.” Ethan opens the f

  • Dating The Wrong Brother   Under the Cameras

Chapter 34 Lana – POV I should have known the media wouldn’t give up so easily. The moment I step out of the building that evening, I realize exactly how bad things have become. At least twelve reporters are waiting outside the main entrance of Hale Industries. Cameras. Microphones. Phones held up like weapons. The moment they see me, everything explodes. “Ms. Vale!” “Lana!” “Is your relationship with Ethan Hale affecting company decisions?” “Did you manipulate the restructuring contract?” The questions come from every direction at once. I freeze for a second. Daniel, who had been walking beside me, mutters under his breath. “Great.” Security immediately steps forward, trying to control the crowd. But the reporters push closer. “Ms. Vale, can you comment on the scandal?” “Did the CEO give you unfair authority?” “Are investors right to question your role?” My heart starts racing. This isn’t just uncomfortable. It’s humiliating. Daniel leans closer. “Keep walki

Chapter 32 Lana – POV By the time the morning meeting begins, the tension inside Hale Industries has become impossible to ignore. The scandal is no longer just media gossip. Now it’s affecting the company. Assistants rush through the executive floor with worried expressions. Phones ring constantly. And several department heads are already waiting outside the conference room. Investors. My stomach tightens as I step inside. Ethan is already there, sitting at the head of the long table. Daniel stands near the window, scrolling through his phone. When he looks up, he shakes his head slightly. “That bad?” I ask quietly. “Worse.” “Fantastic.” Ethan glances at both of us. “Let’s start.” The door closes. Six investors sit across from us. Their expressions are polite. But tense. One of them, Mr. Al-Farid, clears his throat. “Mr. Hale,” he begins. “We appreciate you meeting with us so quickly.” “Of course,” Ethan replies calmly. “We have concerns.” “That’s understan

Chapter 30 Lana – POV By midday, the scandal is everywhere. Financial news sites. Corporate blogs. Social media. Everywhere. My phone hasn’t stopped buzzing since the first article appeared. Some messages are supportive. Others are far less kind. “Corporate favoritism.” “Consultant sleeping her way to the top.” I stop reading after that. “Don’t read the comments.” Ethan’s voice comes from across the hotel suite. He’s standing by the window, speaking quietly on the phone with someone from the company’s PR team. “I wasn’t planning to,” I reply. “Good.” He ends the call and turns toward me. “They’re preparing a statement.” “That sounds serious.” “It is.” “What are you telling them?” “That the rumors are exaggerated.” My eyebrow lifts slightly. “That’s one way to describe it.” His mouth curves faintly. “You’re not helping.” I sigh. “This is getting worse.” “Only temporarily.” “Ethan, the entire corporate world thinks I manipulated you.” “I don’t.” “That’s
