LOGINChapter 8
Lana – POV My first afternoon at Hale Industries is far more overwhelming than I expected. Not because of the workload. But because of the people. More specifically… The Hale brothers. I spend most of the morning reviewing department reports in my new office, trying to focus on spreadsheets and management structures instead of the complicated situation I’ve somehow walked into. But it’s impossible. Because every time I glance out the window… I remember that Ethan’s office is directly across the tower. Watching. Waiting. My phone buzzes on the desk again. This time it’s a message from Daniel. Daniel: Lunch? I thought we could review the operational division together. I hesitate. Lunch with Daniel means more time with Ethan’s brother. The brother I’m supposed to work closely with. The brother who has no idea what happened between me and Ethan. But refusing would look suspicious. Me: Sure. Five minutes later, Daniel knocks on my office door. “Ready?” he asks with an easy smile. He looks relaxed, confident—very different from Ethan’s intense, guarded presence. “Of course,” I say, grabbing my tablet. The executive dining area is located on the top floor of the building. Floor-to-ceiling windows reveal a breathtaking view of the city skyline. Daniel pulls out a chair for me. “Please.” “Thank you.” As we sit, he studies me with curiosity. “I have to admit something,” he says. “What?” “You’re younger than I expected.” I laugh softly. “That’s not the first time I’ve heard that.” “But your proposal was impressive,” he continues. “You clearly know what you’re doing.” “I try.” Lunch arrives quickly. For a while we talk about business. Department restructuring. Leadership efficiency. Corporate growth strategies. Daniel is intelligent and engaged, asking thoughtful questions about every part of my proposal. Then suddenly he leans back slightly in his chair. “So,” he says casually, “how do you like working with my brother?” My fork pauses halfway to my mouth. Professional, Lana. “Mr. Hale is… very decisive.” Daniel laughs. “That’s a polite way of putting it.” “Is there another way?” “Most people just say intimidating.” I smile slightly. “That too.” Daniel studies me again. “You don’t seem intimidated.” My pulse jumps slightly. “You barely know me.” “That’s true.” He tilts his head slightly. “But Ethan doesn’t usually look at people the way he looked at you this morning.” My heart skips. “What do you mean?” Daniel shrugs. “Just an observation.” I force myself to stay calm. “Well, I imagine CEOs tend to analyze their consultants carefully.” Daniel doesn’t respond right away. Instead, he smiles slowly. “Maybe.” Just then, a familiar voice interrupts us. “Daniel.” I freeze. Selene. She stands beside our table, elegant and composed in a soft beige dress. Daniel looks surprised. “Selene. I thought you were having lunch with Ethan.” “I was,” she says calmly. Her gaze shifts toward me. Sharp. Observant. “And you must be Ms. Vale.” I stand politely. “Yes. Lana Vale.” She offers her hand. “Selene Park.” Her grip is gentle. But something in her eyes feels… assessing. Like she’s already forming an opinion about me. “I’ve heard a lot about you today,” she says. “Oh?” “Yes,” Selene replies. “My fiancé seems very interested in your work.” My stomach tightens slightly. Fiancé. Daniel gestures to the empty chair beside them. “Join us.” Selene sits gracefully. “Thank you.” For the next few minutes, the conversation returns to business. But the atmosphere has changed. Selene watches me carefully. Like she’s trying to figure something out. Finally she asks, “Ms. Vale, how long will you be working with our company?” “Approximately three months.” “That’s quite a long time.” Daniel smiles. “It’s necessary for a full restructuring.” Selene nods thoughtfully. “I see.” Then she adds casually, “Ethan doesn’t usually trust outside consultants so easily.” My pulse tightens again. “Perhaps he trusts results,” I reply. Selene’s lips curve slightly. “Perhaps.” But the look she gives me says something else. Something suspicious. Daniel, however, seems completely unaware of the tension. “So, Lana,” he says, “I was thinking we could start reviewing the operations division tomorrow morning.” “That works for me.” “Perfect.” Just then, another voice joins us. Low. Familiar. “I see you’ve all met.” Ethan. My heart immediately jumps. He stands beside the table, looking composed as ever. But the moment his gaze lands on me… Something shifts in his expression. Daniel gestures toward the empty seat beside him. “Ethan, join us.” Ethan doesn’t take his eyes off me. “Looks like you’re already having an interesting lunch.” Selene smiles at him. “We were just discussing Ms. Vale’s work.” Ethan finally sits down. Across from me. Too close. The tension in the air thickens instantly. Daniel continues talking about the restructuring project. Selene occasionally adds comments. But the entire time… Ethan’s gaze keeps drifting back to me. Like he can’t help it. Like he’s remembering something no one else at this table knows. Then suddenly Daniel says something unexpected. “Actually, Lana, I was thinking we could start reviewing the reports tonight. Maybe dinner?” My heart nearly stops. Dinner. With Daniel. Before I can respond… Ethan speaks. His voice calm. Controlled. But unmistakably firm. “That won’t be necessary.” The table goes quiet. Daniel frowns slightly. “Why not?” Ethan leans back in his chair. His gaze moves slowly from his brother… to me. “Because Ms. Vale already has a full schedule tonight.” I stare at him. I absolutely do not. Daniel looks confused. “She does?” Ethan’s eyes meet mine. A slow, dangerous smile appears. “Yes.” He pauses. Then adds quietly— “With me.” My heart slams against my ribs. Because now everyone at the table is looking at us. And I have no idea what Ethan is planning. But something tells me… This situation is about to get even more complicated. ⸻Chapter 37 Lana – POV The building is finally quiet. For the first time in two days, the endless noise has stopped. No reporters shouting questions. No investors calling every ten minutes. No board members demanding emergency meetings. Just silence. I’m sitting in my office long after most employees have gone home, staring at the city lights outside the window. Dubai looks peaceful from this height. Which is ironic. Because inside this building, nothing feels peaceful. The press conference helped. The headlines are already shifting. Now the articles talk about the restructuring results instead of my past. But the damage isn’t completely gone. And Selene is still out there. Planning something. A knock on the door breaks my thoughts. “Come in.” Ethan steps inside. He closes the door quietly behind him. “You’re still here,” he says. “So are you.” He walks farther into the room, loosening his tie slightly. “You handled the press conference well.” “You did most o
Chapter 36 Lana – POV By noon, the situation has become impossible to ignore. The headlines about my past are spreading quickly. Financial news outlets. Corporate blogs. Even social media accounts run by business analysts. Everyone suddenly has an opinion about my career. Most of them are wrong. But that doesn’t stop the damage. I’m sitting in Ethan’s office reviewing another article when Daniel walks in. “Well,” he says. “This escalated quickly.” “That’s an understatement.” He drops his phone on the desk in front of me. Another headline appears on the screen. “Consultant Behind Hale Industries Restructuring Linked to Controversial Corporate Collapse.” I close my eyes briefly. “That project was five years ago.” “I know.” “The company was already failing before I got involved.” Daniel nods. “But the media loves simple stories.” “And this one is simple.” “Powerful CEO.” “Controversial consultant.” “Corporate romance.” I sigh. “That sounds terrible when you s
Chapter 35 Lana – POV The next morning begins with silence. Not peaceful silence. The kind that comes before something explodes. When I step into the executive floor of Hale Industries, the atmosphere feels tense again. More tense than yesterday. Which shouldn’t be possible. But apparently, things can always get worse. I reach my office just as my phone buzzes. Daniel. “Come to Ethan’s office,” he says immediately. “Good morning to you too.” “This isn’t a social call.” “What happened?” “Just come.” The call ends. That’s never a good sign. ⸻ When I enter Ethan’s office, both brothers are already there. Daniel stands near the desk, arms crossed. Ethan is reviewing something on his laptop. The tension between them is obvious. “What’s going on?” I ask. Daniel doesn’t answer immediately. Instead, he places a folder on Ethan’s desk. “You want to explain this?” he asks. Ethan looks up. “What is it?” “Something I found in my office last night.” Ethan opens the f
Chapter 34 Lana – POV I should have known the media wouldn’t give up so easily. The moment I step out of the building that evening, I realize exactly how bad things have become. At least twelve reporters are waiting outside the main entrance of Hale Industries. Cameras. Microphones. Phones held up like weapons. The moment they see me, everything explodes. “Ms. Vale!” “Lana!” “Is your relationship with Ethan Hale affecting company decisions?” “Did you manipulate the restructuring contract?” The questions come from every direction at once. I freeze for a second. Daniel, who had been walking beside me, mutters under his breath. “Great.” Security immediately steps forward, trying to control the crowd. But the reporters push closer. “Ms. Vale, can you comment on the scandal?” “Did the CEO give you unfair authority?” “Are investors right to question your role?” My heart starts racing. This isn’t just uncomfortable. It’s humiliating. Daniel leans closer. “Keep walki
Chapter 32 Lana – POV By the time the morning meeting begins, the tension inside Hale Industries has become impossible to ignore. The scandal is no longer just media gossip. Now it’s affecting the company. Assistants rush through the executive floor with worried expressions. Phones ring constantly. And several department heads are already waiting outside the conference room. Investors. My stomach tightens as I step inside. Ethan is already there, sitting at the head of the long table. Daniel stands near the window, scrolling through his phone. When he looks up, he shakes his head slightly. “That bad?” I ask quietly. “Worse.” “Fantastic.” Ethan glances at both of us. “Let’s start.” The door closes. Six investors sit across from us. Their expressions are polite. But tense. One of them, Mr. Al-Farid, clears his throat. “Mr. Hale,” he begins. “We appreciate you meeting with us so quickly.” “Of course,” Ethan replies calmly. “We have concerns.” “That’s understan
Chapter 30 Lana – POV By midday, the scandal is everywhere. Financial news sites. Corporate blogs. Social media. Everywhere. My phone hasn’t stopped buzzing since the first article appeared. Some messages are supportive. Others are far less kind. “Corporate favoritism.” “Consultant sleeping her way to the top.” I stop reading after that. “Don’t read the comments.” Ethan’s voice comes from across the hotel suite. He’s standing by the window, speaking quietly on the phone with someone from the company’s PR team. “I wasn’t planning to,” I reply. “Good.” He ends the call and turns toward me. “They’re preparing a statement.” “That sounds serious.” “It is.” “What are you telling them?” “That the rumors are exaggerated.” My eyebrow lifts slightly. “That’s one way to describe it.” His mouth curves faintly. “You’re not helping.” I sigh. “This is getting worse.” “Only temporarily.” “Ethan, the entire corporate world thinks I manipulated you.” “I don’t.” “That’s
Chapter 24 Lana – POV For a few seconds, the world disappears. The city lights blur behind Ethan’s shoulders as he kisses me. My hands instinctively grip the front of his jacket, pulling him closer before I can think about the consequences. Which, unfortunately, are very real. Because the mom

Chapter 20 Lana – POV The next morning at Hale Industries feels colder than usual. Not physically. Emotionally. Every step I take through the lobby feels like walking through invisible whispers. People glance at me. Then quickly look away. My stomach tightens. Selene didn’t waste any time.
