Lily could hear her heart literally pounding out of her chest.

The men circled around the exit blocking her path and their hands brushing the steel inside their jackets was enough to remind her she wasn’t leaving. Not unless Christian allowed it.

Her grip on Gio’s hand tightened, but her cousin looked just as lost, confusion painted across her wide eyes.

Lily turned pulse racing when she saw Christian watching her from across the hall holding a tight grin on his face.

“W-what’s going on?” she stammered, searching his face for an answer, for anything she could use to make sense of this nightmare.

However, instead of responding, his gaze shifted to his brother, Sebastian, who then stepped between them.

“Take Gio inside.” He ordered.

“What?” Lily’s voice broke as Gio frowned, tugging against her hold.

What’s going on?” Gio questioned with even more urgency.

Lily swallowed hard, forcing a smile she didn’t feel. She didn’t want her cousin dragged deeper into this mess.

“Just go, Gio. I’ll

“D-Dmitri? What’s going on?”The words tumbled from Lily’s lips before she could stop them. Her eyes locked onto his, searching for something, anything, that resembled the man she thought she knew. But what stared back at her wasn’t the Dmitri she remembered. This one had no trace of warmth nor tenderness.“My, my,” Christian drawled smoothly, but now the British charm she was over heels for felt like broken glass. “Right on cue.”“You’ve all heard the rumors. Wars brewing in the North. Blood spilling in the South. Enemies circling, waiting for cracks in the empire. But tonight—” his eyes slid to Dmitri, “—tonight you witness something else. Unity.”His gaze fell back on her.“Both myself and Mr. Kalanshivo,” Christian continued, his tone tightening with authority, “will be joining forces in this territory. Born and bled for this city, we’ve decided to put aside our… differences. Together, our power is absolute. And you happen to be part of the bargain.”Lily’s stomach dropped.“Dmitr

Twenty minutes in and Gio had already disappeared into the kitchen with Sebastian. He barely even spared Lily a glance when they entered, only muttered something quickly in her ear that made her blush, before whisking her away. Now, Lily stood awkwardly at the edge of the crowded room.Everyone looked too comfortable here, as though they all knew each other and belonged to some exclusive club only the rich and powerful were allowed intoThe atmosphere was nothing short of expensive, everyone wearing the same shade of black. It all felt too oddly familiar. Lily could’ve sworn she was having déjà vu.It wasn’t until she finally pinpointed where she’d seen a similar setting did she suddenly feel uncomfortable. It was exactly like the first Omertà Dmitri had dragged her into when they first met. Every detail mirrored that night, the crowd, the feel of power and money in the air.And here she was again, the outsider. And somehow, just like before, everything circled back to Dmitri. With a

It had officially been a week since Dmitri dropped Lily off at Gio’s place. Thankfully, her new phone had finally arrived, and she could reconnect with the internet again.“Dearest, I need to run down to the shelter for a bit. I’ll be back soon,” her mother called before the soft click of the door shutting behind her.The past few days, Lily had mostly been left alone at home. Her mother spent long hours at the animal shelter, it didn’t pay much, but at least it was something, a small start. Gio, on the other hand, was always out and about with her college friend, Sebastian. Though, Lily suspected their frequent meet up was more than just friends viewing the city.Speaking of the devil, the front door opened, and Gio walked in mid-conversation on the phone. When she finally hung up, Lily arched a brow, clearly waiting for an explanation.“I thought we were supposed to catch up today,” she reminded her.Gio’s mouth formed a perfect O.“I’m bakery hunting with Sebastian. He seems to kno

Christian Whitmore. First son of the notorious British crime clan. A man whose reputation balanced razor-sharp decency with lethal danger.Dmitri read Dante’s message again, the words heavy in his mind: the Whitmores had just secured a major territory in the city, and Christian’s Omertà was only days away. The reason for the relocation was unclear, and Dmitri didn’t like the idea of sharing his city with some newcomers, especially not ones with blood on their hands and a legacy that screamed power. The car rolled to a stop in front of the estate. The Vintage Street had once belonged to a prominent Italian Bratva, long since dismantled after a bloody fall from grace. Now, the British clan had claimed it. The change was undeniable: iron gates embossed with lions and crowns, meticulously trimmed hedges, and the faint, crisp scent of old money.Dmitri remembered the stories his father used to tell—how the Bellini family had scammed and cornered rivals, how the estate had been a fortress o

Lily bit her tongue, his eyes freezing her in place.“It’s, um… it’s totally fine.” She swallowed hard after the sentence, as if the words had scraped their way out.He glanced at the colorful disaster on the floor. “And it looked quite delicious, too. I’m sorry. I wasn’t watching.” His voice wrapped the apology in that crisp, lilting accent, somehow making even regret sound sophisticated. If there was a way the British accent could get more attractive, this man had mastered it.Lily giggled awkwardly, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear. “I mean, who even brings macarons to a place like this?” She instantly bit her words, wincing. What a stupid thing to say, Lily Hills. Brilliant first impression. But instead of frowning, he chuckled, a rich, warm sound. “Actually, I rather fancy these kinds of things. Breaking them in the kitchen is another matter entirely. I’ve always wanted to learn.”Lily blinked. She didn’t know why he was admitting that to her, a complete stranger, but sh
