Chapter 135

Author: Tightrope
When Ariel returned to the marital home, Betty instructed Georgia to simmer some soup. The bubbling sounds from the kitchen filled the air with a subtle, savory aroma.

Betty smiled warmly when she saw Ariel come in. "Why are you alone? Where's Jayson? Is he parking the car?"

Ariel stayed calm. "He had something to take care of. I came back first."

Betty's smile faded instantly. "Whatever it is, it's after work hours. He could've at least come with you!"

Ariel forced a small smile but said nothing.

"Has work been this busy lately?" Betty had Georgia pour Ariel a glass of juice. "Georgia said you and Jayson hardly come back here anymore. What's going on?"

Ariel paused, uncertain how to respond.

Betty had no idea they were planning to get a divorce. She simply assumed they were both tied up with work and looked at Ariel with concern.

Ariel couldn't help feeling frustrated and resigned. She had no idea what Jayson was planning to do. If he didn't tell Betty, how was she supposed to

Nancy didn't want Ariel's scent or any trace of her left on Jayson, his things, or in his personal space.Jayson didn't refuse. He glanced up through the rearview mirror and saw the slender figure who had just reached the bus stop.Ariel's body wobbled slightly—maybe low blood sugar—and she had to steady herself by leaning against the nearby billboard. She looked unwell.Jayson's eyes stayed cold and indifferent, but he said, "Stop."Nancy and Renee both turned to look.Renee was the first to notice Ariel's condition. Guessing what Jayson was thinking, she grumbled, "Jay, don't get tricked. She's just upset about being kicked out of the car and putting on an act. Don't pay attention. If you do, you're falling right into her trap."She hurriedly urged Jayson to leave.Nancy glanced back and smirked.Ariel's tricks just kept piling up. She couldn't achieve anything and kept desperately throwing herself at a man who didn't love her. It was honestly pretty pathetic.Jayson looke

Jayson picked up the call. His deep voice was unreadable. "What's up?"The car was cramped. Ariel couldn't help but hear Renee's coy tone from the other end. "Jay, you've left your house, right? Come pick me up."Jayson was never one to indulge Renee's demands. Usually, he was pretty blunt with her. He asked coldly, "Am I your driver?"Renee shrank back a little, pouting. "It's just on the way. Grandma said you'd have to go this way anyway, so why not give me a ride?"Jayson didn't bother arguing. "Wait there."He gave Toby an address, then glanced at Ariel. "I'm picking her up. Are you okay with that?"Ariel nodded. "It's fine. Just drop me off somewhere along the way."She hadn't really planned on riding with him anyway."It's on the way to Faye Tech. I'll drop you off afterward," Jayson said, checking his watch. His voice was low and emotionless.Ariel didn't say anything else. After Toby pulled up to Renee's spot, Ariel spotted Renee waiting by the curb. Next to her was N

The only issue was that her appetite had been poor lately. Any strong taste easily triggered nausea. But faced with Betty's concerned look, Ariel forced herself to hold back the wave of queasiness."Jayson, get Ari something sweet to wash down the bitterness," Betty instructed right away. That finally drew Jayson's attention. He didn't refuse, but instead of grabbing something himself, he turned to Georgia and said, "There's a jar of dried cranberries in the kitchen fridge. Bring it here."Georgia quickly returned with it and set it on the table.Ariel's eyes fell on the dried cranberries. She had a preference for sweet and tart flavors. While she rarely snacked, she would occasionally buy dried fruits and stash them in the small fridge in the kitchen. She hadn't expected Jayson to know about that. Not that it mattered anymore. After a moment's hesitation, she took a seat at the table.Seeing their interaction, Betty finally smiled with relief. At least they weren't fighting.

Ariel knew Jayson only cared about the photos because of Betty, but since they were getting a divorce, there was no need to keep up appearances behind the scenes.Deleting the photos was the best solution. There was no point in taking up space on his phone and risking Nancy seeing them and getting the wrong idea.Jayson's eyes lingered thoughtfully on her face for a few seconds. Then he smirked lightly. "Fine, whatever you want."He turned and headed into the bathroom, not insisting or pushing. He was probably even relieved.Ariel didn't bother guessing what was really going on in his head. She rubbed her temples, feeling troubled.Betty staying over was unexpected, and it looked like she planned to be here for a few days.Ariel couldn't keep coming here. She sat on the bed waiting for Jayson to finish showering and took the time to organize some project plans. When Jayson came out, his hair was half-dried. He walked while typing away on his phone.Ariel paused, wondering if c

Jayson gave Ariel a thoughtful glance, as if piecing together the situation in his mind. After a brief moment, he looked away coldly, then turned his attention to Perry and Lucas. But Ariel caught something strange in that look."Why did you come here?" Perry asked, clearly surprised.Nancy explained, "Matt had something come up last minute and asked us to come. What's going on here?"She wasn't happy. Why was Ariel here? They'd been running into each other way too often lately. This was their usual circle. Ariel somehow slipped in quietly.Perry felt a headache coming on. He hadn't expected things to get so messy. Matt was really unreliable.Jayson strode in and asked seriously, "Mr. Sanderson, what's going on here?"Perry frowned. How could Lucas explain? If he had said he only acted because of Ariel, Jayson would have only overthought it.Lucas' eyes flickered with something subtle. He pulled Wendy into his arms and said casually, "It was just a misunderstanding. We had a l
