Chapter 168

Author: Tightrope
Ariel looked up from her food.

She did not expect Betty to know so much about these relatively new, trendy things. Not only did she know about candlelight dinners, but Betty was also aware of suites designed specifically for couples on Valentine's Day.

Before Ariel could think of a way to turn down the suggestion, Jayson opened his mouth and said flatly, "Those are for couples who have just started dating. I'm swamped with work. There's no need for things like that, Grandma."

Jayson rejected the plans Betty had made for them before Ariel could.

Ariel was not surprised at all. She lowered her gaze and ate her porridge silently. With Jayson stepping up and taking care of the issue first, Ariel would have one less problem to worry about.

Betty was struck speechless for a moment. "You're only going on a date after you get off work! I'm not telling you to free up the whole day! What kind of excuse is that anyway?"

Jayson raised his brows. "It's not an excuse. I really do have work on

Liam studied Jayson with a suspicious look in his eyes. "I noticed something unusual when examining Ariel's uterus."Jayson didn't seem surprised. He slowly lifted his gaze and met Liam's eyes. Then he said something that only the two of them understood. "Well, your instincts are probably right."…Ariel was transferred to the VIP ward next to Jayson's.Her family and friends followed closely behind, entering the room with quiet relief. At the end of the corridor, Lucas stood watching everything unfold. He had arrived earlier, just as Ariel was taken into surgery. But he knew he had no right to join the others as family. He had done Ariel wrong and hurt her time and time again.Seeing her survive the surgery brought him a sense of relief. For the first time in days, he felt like he could breathe. He walked to the smoking area. With trembling hands, he lit a cigarette and exhaled slowly, a wry smile forming on his lips. What was he still hoping for? Too much had changed. He

Katie felt her legs buckle as she took in the scene before her. She sank into a nearby chair, struggling to catch her breath.Leonard quickly patted her back. "She'll be fine. I'm sure it's just one of the common complications that can arise during surgery. Ariel's in the hands of top experts. I'm confident there won't be any major problems."Still, Katie remained visibly shaken.Janice clung to Chad's arm. "Chad, Ari's surgery isn't going to fail, right?"Chad looked at her pale face, then turned his gaze to the red light glowing above the operating room door. "It won't. Ari will pull through. The doctors will do everything they can to save her."Janice's heart was pounding so loudly it was driving her mad. She glanced over at Jayson. He sat rigidly in his wheelchair, gripping the armrests so tightly that the veins on his hands bulged. He didn't seem to notice or care that the wound on his back had reopened from the strain.Janice spotted a dark red patch spreading across the b

Ariel was still unconscious, suffering from recurring bouts of fever. The recent string of traumatic events had taken a heavy toll on her—physically and emotionally.Jayson stayed by her side all night, watching over her.The next morning, he personally contacted Katie and Leonard, asking them to come to the hospital. He also informed Chad and Janice, knowing they were Ariel's closest friends. They would want to be there for her, especially before such a major surgery.Deep down, Jayson hoped that having more loved ones nearby might somehow bring good luck and positive energy to Ariel. She briefly regained consciousness before being transferred to the operating room.Jayson managed to sit up and get into a wheelchair so he could wait outside.Betty arrived at the hospital too. Her eyes were filled with sorrow as she approached Jayson and took in the sight of him in the wheelchair. "I'll give you this—you're a responsible man. Your mother told me everything. She said you've alrea

Jayson's chest heaved as he inhaled deeply. The corners of his eyes tinged red. "Alright, go ahead. Tell me about her condition."Liam turned to one of the specialists standing nearby—part of the team Jayson had personally brought in from overseas to treat Ariel. The expert spoke fluent Merinian. "Mr. Larkin, your wife's body has suffered significant damage following the induced abortion. Her case can no longer be compared to standard cases of endometrial cancer."If you choose to preserve the uterus, our team can safely remove the tumor. However, I'll be frank—there's a high risk of recurrence and metastasis."It was obvious which option they should go with.Jayson's mouth went dry as he looked at Ariel, unconscious and fragile. He knew what needed to be done. But he wasn't sure how Ariel would feel about it. After all, it was her body.Still, the decision had to be made."Just remove her uterus entirely," Evelyn said quietly, breaking her silence. She looked at Ariel's frail

"That won't be necessary," Jayson said, glancing at the cupboard. "Can you get a blanket and cover Ari?"Evelyn was rendered speechless."I just got here, and the first thing you ask me to do is take care of your wife?" she muttered, clearly disgruntled, though her voice remained subdued as she glanced at Ariel, who was fast asleep.Jayson barely had the strength to speak. He looked pale and drained from his injuries. "I wouldn't have asked if I could move myself."Evelyn was once again left speechless. However, she was certain now. Jayson was doing better than he looked. Even freshly conscious, he still knew how to push her buttons. With a tight-lipped sigh, Evelyn turned and fetched a clean blanket. She gently draped it over Ariel's sleeping form. Then she looked at Jayson with a blank expression. "Happy now?"Jayson replied calmly, "Thank you."Evelyn took a seat nearby. Arthur had already filled her in on everything. Her first instinct had been to blame Ariel. After all, M

Ariel blinked a few times. Then, she remembered—her surgery had been rescheduled for tomorrow due to adjustments Liam had made to her treatment plan.Coincidentally, it fell during the same period Jayson was injured and was still showing little improvement in his recovery.Liam stepped closer and observed Jayson's condition. He had already been briefed on the severity of Jayson's injuries before arriving.Jayson had suffered extensive trauma. Several broken ribs had punctured his lungs, and his recovery would require a long period of rest and careful monitoring.Liam lowered his gaze to Ariel. Her hand was in a cast, and her face was pale as a sheet—likely due to a recent attack. Her cheeks were flushed from fever, and her hands, resting on the bed, trembled slightly. She hadn't eaten."You haven't had anything to eat?" Liam asked.Ariel recalled she hadn't had time to eat. She'd rushed straight to Bluum Tower. Now, she felt drained and lightheaded.Liam didn't press further. He
