Chapter 233

Author: Tightrope
Everyone there turned to look.

Ariel was startled as a large group of people swept in through the door. Leading them was an elegant, striking woman, carrying the cold edge of someone tempered by experience.

No one had expected Evelyn to show up in Sorenta for a surprise inspection.

Matt and the others quickly straightened up.

Upon hearing the manager's words, Evelyn, who had flown over on short notice, was surprised to find Jayson here too.

She simply said, "Lead the way."

The manager gestured politely. "Mr. Larkin and his friends are in the restaurant. His girlfriend is here too."

Evelyn paused imperceptibly.

Clicking her heels softly as she approached, she noticed Nancy sitting beside Jayson.

But soon, Evelyn spotted Ariel standing not far away. Her eyes narrowed sharply, clearly surprised by what she saw.

Evelyn glanced at Jayson, who remained calm and collected. He seemed unbothered by the scene.

"Mrs. Larkin," Perry greeted.

Matt and the others also greeted Evelyn.

Ariel could see right through Jayson. He was pretending to be weak and frail. But she knew exactly why—he was doing it because of her."You know it still hurts when I breathe. I can't move my abdomen too much, and I can't even bathe myself," Jayson said in an unhurried tone.Arthur stood behind him, holding the handles of the wheelchair. His expression was slightly awkward as he sneaked a glance at Jayson. He wasn't quite used to seeing his boss act this way.Ariel, on the other hand, couldn't think of a proper retort."So, you want me to stay at Crescent Point for a few days?""No, I want you to come home."Jayson wasn't going to take no for an answer. He grabbed her hand. "Won't you take pity on me?"Ariel was speechless. She was often amazed by how clever and adaptable Jayson could be. It all depended on whether he was willing to set aside his pride and dignity to get what he wanted.Despite his cold and distant demeanor, Jayson had a knack for persuading others with unconve

Ariel turned her head away and raised her hand to wipe her tears. Just then, she noticed something on her finger.Looking closer, she realized it was the wedding ring she had taken off a long time ago.The moment she saw it, countless memories from the past came flooding back. For a brief moment, a distant, nostalgic look softened her eyes.Jayson noticed her reaction. "Back then, I never got to put the ring on your finger myself. Several years have passed in the blink of an eye. Ari, let's not take off our rings anymore, alright?"Ariel stared at the ring, her emotions a tangled mess. She had thought about many things while Jayson was still in a coma. When she saw the ring on her finger now, she no longer felt opposed to the idea of keeping it.Yet, her thoughts weren't really about the ring at all.Ariel had always been someone who bottled up her feelings. She never knew how to properly vent her frustration or disappointment.Earlier, Jayson had caught her off guard and moved

Jayson ignored Ariel's attempt to pull her hand away, tightening his grip. "No."Ariel frowned at him.Jayson continued, "You shouldn't keep it all bottled up if you're feeling down. You can cry if you're upset. You can yell at me if you want to blame me for what happened. I have all the time in the world, so I can stay here and keep you company."Ariel had just woken up from a coma, so her reactions and thoughts were still sluggish. Jayson's words left her momentarily stunned."I'm still trying to process everything that's happened," she said softly. "I just need some time. You should give me some space.""That means you'll end up dealing with all that pain on your own, doesn't it?" Jayson met her eyes. "You not being able to conceive means I won't be having children either. Since we share the same fate, how about we give each other a hug and cry it out together?"His words were so absurd that the storm of emotions rising in Ariel dissipated slightly. She glared at him, those

Jayson lifted his gaze and looked at Renee, his younger sister who had always lived an easy, comfortable life. "What's a kid like you doing worrying about stuff like that?"Renee grumbled, "Jay, you should be thanking me. I'm not joking about this! I'm already 18. Once I graduate, I can start looking for someone gentle, handsome, and from a family with a background similar to ours."Overall, it'll be good for the Larkin family. At least my marriage won't cause any trouble for us. And once I have a lovely baby, you and Ariel can raise it yourselves."I've thought about it carefully—the man's family shouldn't be as rich or powerful as ours. Just a little less. That way, they won't be in any position to refuse if I decide to let you adopt a few more of my children."Jayson stared at her, speechless. He could tell she was completely serious—she'd even worked out the details. Knowing Renee, she had probably spent a lot of time thinking about this absurd plan."That won't be necessary

Opportunities like this didn't come often.Samson's face darkened as he stood outside Ariel's ward. He still couldn't stomach the fact that she had ruined his plans yet again. He was not a patient man by nature, and certainly not kind. Seeing his carefully laid plans collapse time after time because of the same woman filled him with bitter resentment.By the time he reached Ariel's door, Samson snapped out of his thoughts and frowned slightly. Even he wasn't sure what he was thinking. He pushed the door open. The room was empty for Ariel. Samson walked over, his eyes cold as he looked down at her peaceful face. Memories of the past few months flashed through his mind—Ariel sabotaging his plans, interfering with his schemes, and ultimately becoming the reason Cecilia was arrested and detained. He had every reason to hate Ariel.Lying there, she looked frail and defenseless. His gaze trailed slowly from her face to her nose and lips, then down to her neck. His hand lifted almos

Wade eventually noticed someone was looking at him. When he lifted his head and saw Janice, he stopped in his tracks. His expression didn't change—still cool and detached, as though nothing could ruffle him."What are you doing here?"Janice could tell he wasn't really concerned; the question sounded more like a polite habit than genuine interest. Even if she were the one hospitalized, Wade would probably ask the same thing out of courtesy.Still, she felt nervous speaking to him. She pressed her lips together. "A friend of mine had surgery recently. I came to visit her.""Well, I'm glad you're alright."Wade gave a brief nod and was about to walk away. That was when Janice noticed the garment draped over his arm—clearly not something a man would wear.It was a light gray knitted cardigan, soft and delicate, unmistakably feminine.Janice stared at it for a while before asking, "Has Alicia fallen sick again?"The word "again" made Wade frown slightly, irritation flickering acr
