Chapter 525

Author: Tightrope
Nancy seemed poised as she finished the drink without any complaints. Even Cecilia found that quite surprising.

Someone like Nancy, who had been spoiled rotten by Jayson, had no trouble swallowing her pride and making a toast to Cecilia now to please her.

However, Cecilia showed no signs of softening toward her. "If it weren't for Mr. Larkin, someone like her would never be allowed to get on my ship."

Then, Cecilia turned around and handed Ariel another glass of fruit juice. There was a stark difference in the way she treated Ariel and Nancy.

Although Cecilia did not respond to Nancy, she cared enough to show Jayson some respect, considering his status. "Please have a seat, Mr. Larkin."

The other guests had overheard some parts of their conversation. They kept sneaking glances in Cecilia's group's direction from time to time.

Nancy wasn't sure if Ariel would heed her words. After Jayson picked a seat, she sat next to him right away. Compared to Ariel, Nancy seemed more like Jayso

Ariel watched as Jayson neatly packed her clothes into separate bags."I've separated the lighter and thicker clothes. You catch colds easily, so I've packed different kinds of medicine in the kit. The ones you need to take daily are in this clear box." He lifted the case to show her before placing it in the suitcase.Every time he added something, he looked up at her and explained it carefully.Ariel just watched him quietly. Her chest swelled with a mix of emotions—mostly a calming warmth.Jayson did think things through better than she did, paying attention to details she would have missed. While he was packing, Ariel texted Janice to ask if she was free to go on the trip with her.Janice replied almost instantly, "Sure! I'll treat it like a vacation. I'll feel better being there with you."Remembering that Janice had gone with Wade to celebrate her birthday, Ariel asked, "How's the birthday celebration going?"It took a while before Janice replied, "Not bad."Seeing that,

Ariel stared at Jayson in confusion. He closed the door behind him and started walking toward her. Without a word, he took the bag right out of her hand. She reached out to grab it back, but he was faster. Frowning, she snapped, "Jayson, what are you doing?"He set the bag aside and took her wrist instead. "Come with me to the master bedroom."Something suddenly occurred to Ariel. She looked at him suspiciously. "You're not seriously…"She stopped mid-sentence, pressed her lips together, then said firmly, "I need to pack. Don't start anything, and don't get any funny ideas."Besides, he was still recovering. There was no way she would let him push himself.Jayson stopped then, amusement flickering in his eyes. He took another slow step forward. "Funny ideas? We're married, you know. That's just normal interaction between a husband and wife."Ariel stepped back. A tingle ran up her scalp as she shot him a warning look. "Are you trying to slow down your recovery? The doctor said

The call was from a department head at the military base."Ariel, there's an urgent business trip. It's important, and we need our best senior engineer to lead the team. You'd be flying out tomorrow. Can you make it?"Ariel slapped away the hand tracing her earlobe.Jayson seemed obsessed with everything about her. When she pushed him away, he only grew more dissatisfied. He wrapped an arm around her neck to pull her even closer."Business trip? Where to? What exactly will I be doing?" Ariel asked. She had no other choice but to press an elbow to his shoulder to keep some distance."To Bellador. We've got a strategic partnership with them, but their tech setup's been giving us a lot of trouble. The higher-ups want you to go as our lead engineer to handle some of the technical issues and work closely with their team on-site," the department head replied. When Ariel heard the name of the country, she knew it had always maintained close ties with Croinia. The two had frequent excha

Ariel couldn't help but feel Jayson's decision was a bit rash. Her ring had been a sky-high auction piece, yet his own had been hurriedly made?Somehow, she suddenly wanted to know what kind of state Jayson had been in back then. He had put so much thought into everything behind the scenes.Jayson wasn't the type to display his affection openly. When he cared for someone, he did it without counting costs or expecting anything in return. The deeper she thought about it, the more it seemed that he had carefully orchestrated everything between them. She even wondered if he hadn't done all those things quietly behind her back, would they have had such a deep connection at all?"You sure know how to bottle things up." Ariel stepped closer and looked up at his precise features with an intent gaze.Caught in her stare, Jayson held his gaze without flinching for a moment. "Do you want me to take credit? Is it too late now?"Ariel smiled faintly, but she didn't respond. She stepped forw

Wade's brow furrowed tighter. "Alright, you handle it first."After hanging up, he looked up and immediately caught sight of Janice's stiff expression. He pressed his lips together for a moment, then said, "Sorry, I have something urgent. I've reserved a table. You can call your friends to come and keep you company."Before Janice could even process it, Wade had buckled his seatbelt and floored the accelerator. The car sped off, kicking up a cloud of dust.Janice stared after him for a long moment. Finally, she blinked, then shrugged as if to comfort herself. "Fine, then."She looked around the restaurant, feeling a little lost. Her stomach growled. She thought that since she was here anyway, why make things hard for herself? After taking a deep breath, she found her seat and ordered a few dishes. They looked appealing, but after tasting them, she found them utterly bland.Janice's straight back suddenly seemed to deflate. Her cheeks puffed with a piece of foie gras in her mout

Wade's words hung in the air.The flicker of light in Janice's eyes dimmed, and her throat suddenly felt tight. She couldn't quite name the feeling. Nothing seemed wrong, yet everything pricked at her chest, sharp and insistent. She hadn't expected Wade to say the words "lost it" so casually, as if the good luck charm didn't matter at all.But he knew how she had gone through all that effort to get him the charm.Back then, Wade had looked at her with a mix of helplessness and exasperation. Patting her head, he asked, "Are you serious? Will this thing even work? Why go to all this trouble?"Janice had done it willingly, so she replied proudly, "This is my way of showing I care. If the heavens see my sincerity, they'll watch over you and keep you safe."She even remembered the softness in his eyes back then. Even though he wasn't someone who easily expressed his emotions, she had felt a subtle difference at that time. Now, her good luck charm was gone.Janice stared at the rabbi
