Chapter 615

Author: Tightrope
Ariel ended the call and sat in the car for a few moments before a sudden thought struck her. She hurried upstairs.

In her bedroom, she rifled through drawers until she found the divorce certificate she had carefully kept.

There it was, black and white and stamped with the official seal.

She couldn't understand how this problem could have happened.

Ariel sat on the edge of the bed for a long while, frozen in place. Countless possibilities flashed through her mind, but each one seemed utterly bizarre.

She didn't want to overthink. Brushing her hair back, she let out a slow breath. There was nothing to do but wait for Jayson's call now.

Outside, rain began to fall. Sitting and stewing would only make her anxious, so she decided to take a shower.

She kept telling herself that there must have been a mix-up somewhere along the process.

She occupied herself for almost three hours, yet Jayson still hadn't called. It only made Ariel's anguish grow.

Still, he kept those emotions locked inside. The more he thought about it, the more absurd it seemed. Yet he couldn't bring himself to question Ariel and risk making things awkward between them. His only solution was to leave on a four-month business trip, during which he stayed in Lockewin for quite some time.A photograph of Jayson and Ariel from their wedding day sat on his office desk—the only picture they had ever taken together.Once, in a moment of overwhelming emotion, he had thrown the frame away. But later, he retrieved it and placed it back on his desk, unable to let it go.He spent a long time thinking.Ariel had only married him because of others' schemes. Left to her own choices, she likely would never have agreed. She had been forced down this path.Lucas had served three years in prison after the Sanderson Group ran into serious

Ariel never imagined she would be hearing these words from Jayson. He maintained his usual calm, dignified demeanor, but beneath the composure lingered a trace of sorrow in his eyes.Ariel felt confused. Jayson wasn't supposed to act this way. He had just admitted that, during their four years of marriage, he had been wary of Lucas for nearly three. She was stunned. Ariel pursed her lips and looked at him. "What did you find out about me and him?"There was a time when she and Jayson had shared a happy, loving relationship. Yet, one day, he changed abruptly. Ariel had long assumed he maintained their harmonious first year together simply out of good manners and upbringing. She thought his feelings for her had cooled because he had grown tired of her or had a change of heart. That was the conclusion she held on to, even long after they had gone through the "divorce" procedure. But now Jayson revealed he had been wary of Lucas all along. In all those years, he had never once menti

The consequences of failure could be dire.Ariel stayed fully alert. The testing process would take anywhere from two weeks to a full month. As team leader, she had to ensure that no one on her team made obvious or reckless mistakes. The procedures were extensive, and by the time they wrapped up for the day, nearly three hours had passed.During her break, Ariel remained in the room while the others went elsewhere to finish their tasks. The higher-ups had also appointed someone to assist Ariel with her tasks regarding the SX alloy, and that person was Elsie. By the time Ariel found her, Elsie had already received the relevant instructions.Holding several documents in her arms, Elsie looked at Ariel and said sternly, "Other than my mentor, you're the only person around my age who can boss me around and make me work as your assistant."It was a blunt reminder of the gap between them. Still, Elsie believed she would one day overcome that gap and surpass Ariel. For now, Ariel should at least thank her for her help.Ariel checked the address on her phone and replied, "Then you'd better get used to it."Elsie was struck speechless. By the time she gathered herself, Ariel had already taken the documents and strode out of the room.Frozen for a moment, Elsie quickly hurried after her, grumbling, "Hey! How can you say something like that?"She nearly bumped into someone as she stepped out.Samson looked down at her,

After all the hurt and pain Jayson had caused Ariel, it was only fair they made him suffer a little as well. But Ariel never thought that way. What Janice suggested was nothing more than revenge, and Ariel knew it could only trigger a chain of unwanted consequences.Even so, Janice's concern wasn't about vengeance—it was about the hardship Ariel might eventually face. If Jayson were to learn they had lost their first child, his grief would only add to Ariel's burden."I don't think this situation with Jayson will last long. A proud, conceited man like him only turned his attention to you because he just broke up with his previous lover. Ignore him, and he'll give up soon enough." Janice only wanted to shield Ariel from more pain.Ariel understood her concern and smiled gently. As for Chad, neither of them knew how to break the news to him. They decided to wait for the right time.Janice ended up staying with Ariel for an entire week. The once bubbly, carefree woman seemed to hav

Janice exploded, blurting out those words so abruptly that even Ariel was caught off guard. Jayson stumbled back a few steps from the force, though he didn't fall—his strong core muscles kept him steady. His dark eyes revealed no particular emotion as his gaze briefly landed on Janice.Ariel knew Jayson wasn't the type to lash out at a woman over something like this.Janice, on the other hand, had completely lost her composure. Devastated by Ariel's illness, she could only vent her anger and resentment on the man she blamed for it all."Why is a man like you still alive? How is that fair? You were unfaithful, and you neglected Ariel. She suffered endless pain and agony all alone. Are you even human?"She had lost all sense of reason. She didn't care that she was shouting at Jayson, nor did she care about the consequences. Her heart ached for Ariel, and she thought she should have done this long ago.Jayson stared at her silently, his voice calm and steady, his eyes unreadable.
