The house was unusually quite that afternoon.

After the chaos of Adrian's birthday party, the house felt almost unfamiliar. Decorations were still hanging from the walls, flowers remained on the tables, and a few unopened gift boxes sat in the corner of the living room.

Mason had gone to school, Adrian was at work and Vivian wasn't around as usual. I was wiping the glass table when I heard the front door open.

Vivian walked inside first. She was carrying her handbag, her heels clicking against

I was still standing at the doorway, staring at the door in front of me. My stepmother. I hadn't seen her in eight years. Eight years since she had been forced out of the Sterling mansion after my father's death. And now she came here. I couldn't understand how she gained the right to come back here. More importantly, I couldn't understand why Vivian had called her Mom. I was so lost in my thoughts that I didn't notice someone walking up behind me. "Mia?" I didn't respond. "Mia?" I blinked when I heard my name again. I turned around and found Xavier standing behind me, staring at me with a confused expression. He looked at me, then at the living room, then back at me. "Are you planning to become part of the doorway, or are you actually going to move?" I frowned. "What?" He waved his hand in front of my face. "I've been standing here talking to you, but you're looking at that room like you've just seen a ghost." I quickly pulled myself together. "I'm fine."

Eighteen years passed. Elena was no longer the little girl who had returned home with her nanny. She was twenty years old now, a beautiful and intelligent young woman studying in college and slowly building a life of her own.Although she had spent most of her childhood away from the Sterling mansion, she had grown close to her father over the years. Richard made sure she never felt forgotten. He called her often, visited whenever he could, and supported her education.Victoria, however, had never completely accepted the place Elena occupied in Richard's life. She had remained his wife for eighteen years, but she had never given birth to a child of her own. Her marriage to Richard had become quieter with time, and the relationship between her and Elena had never developed into anything warm. But everything changed the day Richard Sterling died.Victoria collapsed into grief, struggling to accept the death of her husband. Elena returned from college immediately. She was devastated.Bla

She was carrying a tray of glasses through the crowded hall when someone suddenly stepped in front of her.She stopped just in time. "I'm sorry," she said quickly. The man looked at her. He was tall, well-dressed, and carried himself with the quiet confidence of someone who was used to being respected.Richard Sterling. He glanced at the tray in her hands before looking back at her. "You almost dropped those."Victoria smiled. "Thank God, I didn't."Richard smiled back. She didn't know who he was then.To her, he was simply another guest.Richard, however, noticed her. Throughout the evening, he found himself looking in her direction more than once.Victoria wasn't trying to impress anyone. She wasn't wearing expensive jewel

The next morning, the house was unusually quiet. Most of the guests had left late the previous night, leaving behind empty glasses, discarded decorations, and gift boxes scattered around the living room. I was downstairs before everyone else, helping the other maids clean up.The birthday decorations that had looked beautiful the night before now looked completely different. Flowers were already beginning to wilt, tables needed to be cleared, and the floor was covered with pieces of ribbon and wrapping paper. I was carrying a tray of empty glasses toward the kitchen when I heard footsteps behind me. I turned.Adrian was coming down the stairs. He was dressed in a dark shirt and trousers, his sleeves rolled up slightly. He stopped when he saw me. For a moment, he simply stared. I continued walking. “Good morning, sir.” “Good morning.” I expected him to keep walking, but he remained where he was. “You're working already?” “That's what I'm here for.”His lips curved slightly. “Y

The party continued for another hour, but Vivian was no longer enjoying herself. She kept smiling whenever someone approached her, yet the moment they walked away, the smile disappeared. The switched video had ruined the surprise she had prepared for Adrian. Instead of celebrating her relationship with him, the entire room had been reminded of Elena. When the last guests finally began leaving, Vivian waited until most of the staff had gone before returning upstairs. Mia was already in her room. She sat quietly on the edge of her bed, holding the small monitoring device Sophia had given her. One of the cameras showed Vivian entering her bedroom. A few minutes later, another woman followed her. It was someone Mia had seen around the house several times. Vivian shut the door behind them. “Who will do something like that to me?” Vivian demanded. The woman looked confused. “I don't know.” “Someone replaced my video,” Vivian continued. “I personally gave that tape to the
