Jocelyn’s POV
“Jocelyn?” Eduardo gritted out, eyes gaped and jaw dropped in surprise. Repressing the urge to laugh at the stunned look on his face, I pressed my lips into a thin line and smiled widely as I beckoned him to take my hand. It felt so rewardingly good to see Eduardo almost having a meltdown at the mere sight of me after five years. Something in me twirled with manic satisfaction as his eyes dilated restlessly as he looked me up and down in disbelief. “I will prefer you address me formally, Mr Lopez,” I said. “Won't you give me a handshake?” “Ah, sorry about that, Miss Roswell,” He spurted out before clasping my hand in a warm handshake that sent a weird feeling racing down my spine. Ignoring the unsolicited sensation, I pulled away from him and went to sit beside Amelia who had a smile of approval plastered to her face. Returning her smile, I darted her a stealthy wink as Eduardo finally stopped gaping at me and went to sit down at the head of the table. “I still can't believe that I finally got the golden opportunity to see you, Mr Lopez,” I began as the waiters arranged dishes of food on the table. “It has always been my lifelong dream to work with you.” Initially, Eduardo looked taken aback, like a deer caught in the headlights, at my utterance before feigning a smile. “Really?” “Yes,” I nodded, then grabbed the cup of champagne in front of me and swirled it, staring at the scintillating golden bubbles of the wine. “You are an outstanding businessman with an impeccable personality to match. I'm sure you have various women fawning over you with your good attributes.” “You flatter me too much, Miss Roswell,” Eduardo let out a screechy laugh that sounded so fake it was disgraceful. “By the way, I'm really looking forward to working with an industrious businesswoman like yourself. I mean, you single handedly raised Roshome to great heights.” My heart did a weird thing and my insides fluttered at his utterance but I ignored it yet again. I was probably feeling this way because it had been long since I had last seen him. I mean, I had been married to him for three years, so it was normal but henceforth, I wasn't going to allow myself feel stupid things like that anymore. The only reason I had come to America was to seek revenge, and not to fell butterflies in my belly or anything like that. I had planned my revenge well and good; I would get Eduardo to trust me and when he least expected it, I'd backstab him and make him go bankrupt. His materialistic mother would definitely abandon him, same as Sofia, and he'd be left alone, poor, miserable and frustrated while I reveled in his misfortune. About thirty minutes later, we finished lunch and it was finally time to discuss our futuristic business venture. As Eduardo conversed with his secretary, I finally allowed myself to take a good look at him. Not only did he have a despondent look to him, his cheekbones were also sunken and he looked like he hadn't slept in days, given the dark circles beneath his eyes. However, his jet-black hair was still slicked back as usual, to accentuate his sharp jawline and greek god-like facial structure which consisted of his pointed, straight nose, his full pink lips and his alluring deep-set grey eyes. “Focus, Josie. You're not here to thirst over your despicable ex-husband.” I chided myself inwardly. Even though he looked slightly emaciated, he still had that suave charm and dashing appeal to him, and thankfully, I wasn't moved by it in the slightest. “How are you feeling, Miss Roswell?” Amelia whispered, yanking me out of my reverie. “About what?” “About your whole revenge scheme. Are you sure you can still go through with it because I saw you staring at him.” Shit. “No, I wasn't,” I fibbed. “Maybe you were seeing things.” “If you insist, ma'am,” Amelia huffed. “But I just want you to know that it's not too late to back out.” “I will get my revenge,” I muttered. “You will see.” “Now to the topic of the day, I've gone through your ideas and I must say I'm very impressed with the way you think, Joc-Miss Roswell,” Eduardo started. “Among all the ideas, I like the smart dishwasher idea the most.” The idea behind that was to create a dishwasher with sensors that could automatically detect and clean dirty dishes, and also sort them accordingly after washing. All one had to was to load the dishwasher with dirty dishes. “Really? Me too,” I beamed. “Glad to know we are both on board with the idea.” “Yes, so what next?” “I will inform you about the next line of action as soon as I sort things out with my lawyer,” I said then stood up. “It was nice meeting you, Mr Lopez.” “Same here,” Eduardo said as we shook hands. By the way, can we speak in private? There's something I'd like to say to you alone.” “Sure.” “We will be outside, ma'am.” Amelia darted me a meaningful look before leaving with Nina and the team leader of the finance department, Oscar. Without a word, Rafael followed behind them and soon, Eduardo and I were alone. The first thing I did was snatch my hand from his hold. “How may I help you, Mr Lo-?” Before I could finish my question, Eduardo enveloped me in a warm hug. “I'm beyond relieved to see you alive and well. I heard about the accident and am so-” “Let go of me,” I whispered, bunching my hands into fists. The feeling of his strong, muscular body pressed against mine had awoken the emotions that I thought were long dead and buried, which terrified me greatly. I also couldn't help but wonder how and when he had even learnt of the accident. “Right,” Eduardo laughed sheepishly as he obliged my order. “I'm sorry I did that. I don't-” “That's enough, I don't care about sentiments,” I cut him short. “Fine, we had something in the past but we are in the present. I am only here to do business with you, nothing more. So refrain from speaking to me like we are close or touching me intimately, am I clear?” Although he seemed petrified, he nodded. “Yes, I'm sorry.” “Pocket your sorrows and act like the heartless businessman that you've always been.” I gritted out before I could stop myself. Without darting him a backward glance, I made my way out of the conference room, my shoulders high and my stomach fluttering.Jocelyn’s POV I woke up to the sound of machines beeping next to me.As I winked an eye open, a tangy antiseptic smell infiltrated my line of smell, causing me to scrunch my nose in distaste for a moment. After a while, I squeezed my eyes open and squinted instantly as sunlight diffracted through the window panes, into my eyes.Looking around, I realized that I was in a hospital room, and also experiencing numbness from my waist down which made me put two and two together as I stared at my moderately big stomach.Melon was out.I managed a weak smile as I clasped my hands together before something clicked in my head.My baby wasn't with me.As I made to rip the IV off my wrist and go in search of a doctor, the door opened and my obstetrician, Dr Wineheart, walked in, clad in grey scrubs.“You are finally awake,” He said. “Welcome back to life.”“Thanks,” I replied. “Where's my baby?”Sure, I had managed to get over the trauma of losing a child the first and second time, but I knew I
Jocelyn’s POV “I’m seeing someone,” Ivy uttered, as she took her seat beside me, a simmering cup of ginger tea in her hold. “He's also a doctor. He was recently transferred here from Norway.”“Finally,” I squeaked, clapping my hands together in excitement.“I have to get over Brian somehow, don't I?” She shrugged then took a sip of tea.“Hold on, you are using the new guy as a rebound?” I asked. “Really, Ivy?”“Don't judge me,” Ivy sighed, throwing her hands in surrender. “In all honesty, he's not a rebound because I kind of like him too. He's funny, tall, and handsome.”For peace to reign, I decided against pushing the subject further and instead remain on the current topic which was the new guy.“So how and when did he ask you out?”“Three days ago after we finished a surgery together,” Ivy chuckled. “A romantic to the core, isn't he?”“I guess he is in a way,” I replied.“He told me he got an epiphany during the surgery and realized that life was too short to keep one's feelings h
Jocelyn’s POV As I flipped through the pages of a maternity book, a knock came on the door of the bedroom before Eduardo let himself in, a smile playing on his handsome face.“Hi, baby. How are you?” He asked, walking over to press a kiss to my lips and forehead.“Good,” I replied, rubbing my gargantuan belly. “The baby is kicking gently today which is quite surprising. If I didn't have an experience with pregnancy, I would have asked you to drive me to the hospital, so we could get her checked.”I was currently in the seventh month and last trimester of my pregnancy, and as much as I loved my unborn baby girl, I couldn't wait for it to come out.Last week, I had found out that I was having a girl via the surprise baby shower Amelia and Ivy had thrown me and I was very excited to meet my little baby girl. However, being cooped up at home for the past three months could be sickening and frustrating because I was always alone in the house.Three months ago during an appointment with my
Eduardo’s POV Leaning against the doorway of our bedroom, I observed Jocelyn as she laid, cocooned in the blanket, face scrunched up in displeasure and possible ache, which she wouldn't admit. She had been like that for the past five hours and it was currently ten in the morning.I had come home last night to meet Ivy having dinner with the kids and Jocelyn copoed up in bed, burning hot with a temperature. All my efforts to get her to go to the hospital had been in vain, as she had vehemently stated she was fine and didn't need to be assessed by a doctor.Right now, as I looked at her, I mentally admonished myself for listening to her last night, instead of doing a better job of persuading her to see a doctor.“That does it, baby. We are going to the hospital,” I said, and watched her try but fail to sit up.I was instantly at her side, propping a pillow behind her and covering her with the blanket.“Thanks, Ed,” She said then sneezed into the handkerchief in her hand. “I don't need
Jocelyn’s POV I winced as the back of my head tightened with an excruciating ache, stifling the urge to groan in pain.“The sales memo and the quarterly report were thoroughly reviewed and evaluated by me yesterday, so everything should be perfect,” The team leader of sales department, Micheal Gould, said into the microphone, aggravating my migraine.“Okay, that's good.’ I forced myself to say, balling my hands into fists and placing it on my lap.I couldn't help but wonder why I had such a bad headache that afternoon, as the voices in the conference room blurred, and the sound of my heart thumping filled my ears.My mouth was hot, my lips numb, and my body warm as the ache intensified.I had woken up hale and hearty today, excited for the start of a new work week, and mine and Eduardo's impending dinner that was supposed to happen later today. But given how I seemed to have fallen ill all of a sudden, I knew the dinner would likely not happen anymore. The mere thought of it was beyo
Eduardo’s POV “It's been less than a year since I left yet it feels like a decade has passed,” Jocelyn said, one hand out of the window and her eyes squeezed shut as the wind tousled her long, auburn hair.Even though she couldn't see it, I darted her a smirk before turning my attention to the road.We were currently in Australia for the week, as Henry and Olivia were currently on summer break.Jocelyn and I had decided to take them to Australia, mainly because we wanted to expose Olivia to the country and stuff.Due to the sick plan Nancy had pulled, she had been unable to spend time in Australia with her mother and sibling.Although that was in the past now, I couldn't help but feel vitriolic anger toward both Nancy and Sofia whenever I thought about it.But as Jocelyn had told me the other day, focusing on the bad things that happened in the past instead of being pleased and grateful with one's current situation, wasn't the right thing to do.I had Jocelyn and my wonderful childre
