MIMI

The ride back home was silent and yet suffocating. My back was stiff and straight, it barely relaxed into the seat of the car as my hands dug into my dress, a hopeful barrier away from the skin of my thighs.

My teeth clenched recalling the very scene at dinner with Kennedy Goodwin and Corrie.

I didn't even want to be there but Devon dragged me there wanting to make a good impression because he and Kennedy had some business.

Everything would have been perfect, if not for the way Devon looked at Corrie. His eyes ogled her the entire night and she wasn't even dressed for the occasion. She'd laugh or tell a joke and both at the table were charmed by her. When I tried to do the same thing I was either met with a silent table or scolded by Devon for trying too hard.

I'm not blind, and even if I was, it didn't take a genius to know that Devon was enamoured by Corrie. Infact a fucking five year old could tell. But I just kept shut, swallowed my discomfort till the dinner ended.

Corrie on

MIMI "What’s wrong if I pay her a bit of attention?" he added, turning back toward me as if he'd just discovered a brilliant point, as if that justified treating me like I was nothing. "You didn’t lose your child twice.""Is that what it is?" I scoffed. "Pity? Really? Don’t I deserve your pity too? I almost died pushing Benjamin out of my body. I could’ve died Devon, doesn't that scare you?" Both hands slowly left my sides, hovering close to my ears. "I practically risked my life to give you another heir and instead of getting a thank you, even a speck of your attention..." I finally pressed both hands to the sides of my head, my fingers digging into my hair. "C-Corrie just gets it. Without having to try. To the point, you go around sleeping with every woman who looks like her."Devon’s eyes widened. His lips trembled into a pathetic, frightened pout and I laughed."Oh, wait," I scoffed. "You thought I wouldn't find out about your affairs? I know about every single one of them. I kn

KENNEDY Both my hands went over hers, steadying them as they shakily relaxed under my touch."Why would you even ask me that?" I muttered. Just from her eyes, I could tell she was fighting every logical instinct in her body not to doubt the words coming out of my mouth."It doesn’t look like it," she hissed."I swear, I am," I explained, watching her eyes soften and her grip on me loosen. She let go and stepped back a little."He offered me an ultimatum," she said, voice tight. "He said he’ll only end this hellish divorce process if I take the job. With that kind of offer, do you really expect me to believe you’re on my side? For all I know, you could’ve already sold me out to the bastard just like you did by inviting the Remingtons over." She sucked in her teeth, pain flickering in her eyes. "I'm finding it really hard to trust you anymore."My eyes darkened at her words, and I clenched my teeth, swallowing the rage clawing up my throat. If I snapped now, she'd only distrust me more

KENNEDY I looked over to her and then both Devon and Mimi. Devon was stunned, maybe a bit of love struck. While Mimi had a glimpse of panic mixed with disgust but in an instant her expression morphed into a calm state. Leaving no sign of her previous emotions. Things were getting interesting. This was why I invited them over. I was expecting Mimi to tear Corrie's face off. Or give any volatile reaction but she seemed to be the most calm of the bunch."Oh, they're our guest." I said coyly seeing the rage burning in her face."Guests? Why? You are aware what they did to me. Why would you welcome them as guests. After setting me up at that job interview, then you do this? What exactly are you trying to do?" The maids came forward, probably to detain her but I put my hand up and flicked it towards them as they both nodded and left.I walked over to Corrie.“We should talk,” I whispered to her, but her eyes were already glassy with tears, her entire face red like a tomato.“I don’t want

KENNEDY I adjusted my glasses, going through the documents on my table. My phone rings, it wasn't too far away from me and with just a glimpse, a smirk settled on my lips. "Already?" I chuckled, putting down the document and reaching out to my phone to see Emmette's name on my screen. I slide it to answer, plopping my back against my chair, my smirk widening into a mischievous satisfying smile."I see you got my present. I've been waiting for you call.." "Cut the crap Kennedy. How much do you want?" Emmette's voice rang with a hint of concern cutting me off before i could finish. It made me realise he must really be obsessed with Corrie, more than he was with Emerald. "What do you mean exactly?" I cocked, playing dumb to his request. "You seriously want to play this game Kennedy?" He hissed as my head tilt back till my eyes were staring at the intricate design of my ceiling."I don't quite understand you Emmette, what game are you talking about?" I muttered, dragging it on."You

CORRIE "H-hired?" My throat went dry and my eyes searched the room absentmindedly. My ears began to ring tuning out every sound in place. My head began to ache and pounding at every second and what was an image of Emmette standing before me was nothing much of a blur. Muffled sound eventually filled my ears and suddenly I could hear Emmette once again."Corrie." He called out, his voice soft. "Are you okay?" Maybe it's a good thing that I couldn't see his face clearly right now. Because just from his voice alone for some reason my heart melted. And I hated it because I was supposed to hate him."Corrie?" He pesters again.I take in a deep breath, trying to focus my gaze on him. "I'm fine." I muttered with my heart beating so fast. Soon my surroundings became clear and I could see Emmette more clearly now. His expression bearing one of concern and all I could was reference it to that night at the Ferry. That night and in my dreams, I always watch him hold a smug wicked grin but for s
