Chapter 5 - Eden

For a moment, I just stood frozen where I was, wondering when I would wake up from this nightmare.

It happened all the time. It started with a dream where I would wake up in Connor’s arms again, in my apartment, when we were still husband and wife and my baby was still safe in my belly. Waking up was always terrible, but after a while, I got used to it.

The only difference was that, at that moment, he didn’t look like the man I loved, the one who still lived in my memories.

He looked like the man who had abandoned me. That chiseled jaw and rugged features that made him look like his father. The blue eyes were darkly shadowed, as if he’d been getting little sleep lately. And that same expression of anger and hurt, now mixed with surprise, that made my last memory of him so terrible.

Why… Why wasn’t I waking up…?

“What is she doing here?!” a high-pitched voice screamed, piercing my ears and finally snapping me out of my denial.
