Raina.
I was planning to get off work at my next job at the grocery store when someone walked in. The last two days haven't been okay at all seeing Luke was still giving me cold shoulders. His indifference hurts as hell but the only thing keeping me going was the fact that he hadn't cheated on me and made love to Jane like I feared. If he had, I would have felt the pain and if he was going to, he would have done so by now so this only meant one thing. He still wants us, the marriage and me. So perhaps I have been nagging him too much, stopping him from wanting to put in more work. "Hello there." I heard a familiar voice and turned to see the kind-hearted man that saved me from earlier. This late afternoon, I decided to use my little salary left (after paying a huge part of Luke's debts again, household expenses and his luxury goods) to buy myself new lingerie that would fit this time. As I got into the store and was trying them out. A rude sales girl came to stand by my side, watching my every move like a hawk, as if I would steal something. "Is everything alright, what is the matter?" I asked gently after noticing how she was creating a hole into my body and it was making me nervous. The sales girl while chewing her gum so loudly as I tried not to puke just rolled her eyes at me. "Aren't you too big for that size, do you even have the money?" The sales girl demanded rudely and I decided to just ignore her but that seemed to be a wrong move. The next thing I felt on my hair was a yank and I screamed, feeling like my scalp was on fire, air about to pull out of its roots. This stranger arrived in time and saved me in the process. I still had no idea who he was but immediately he walked in, everyone gasped and whispers flowed. 'Why was that?' I pondered and got no answer. He left immediately and now that he was in here, the same whispers were flowing. "Why would someone like him come here? I heard he hasn’t found a mate yet, but he came here too but girls like us don’t even dare to dream." I heard them all and just looked around in confusion. I mean what were they all saying? Also to think of it, this man does look familiar but where had I seen him? I was still watching him when he suddenly turned to look at me and I looked away immediately. "Hey you, please come over." He pleaded to my surprise, "What is it sir?" I politely asked, noticing how devilishly handsome he looked in his T-shirt which struggled to contain his build and trousers. He had a dark, long hair which was packed into a ponytail bun from behind and really, long beautiful lashes that he flattered at me. Jealousy ran through me immediately as I wondered how someone could be so beautiful and also look like a girl. "I heard your store sometimes trades in rare, magic props?" he said, but seemed more to be asking so I wasn't sure how to respond and just nodded. "I am looking for something that can block the mate bond’s influence." He added and my entire body froze as my blood ran ice. 'He said what now?' I pondered, going pale and trying not to shake as I knew I had never heard about such. My stomach dropped, twisting in my stomach as I looked around, trying to gather my thoughts. 'I was in front of a customer and couldn't afford to screw up. Home should be the least thing on my mind now.' I thought as I shook my head. 'Why would he even need something like that?' I wondered and decided to muster up the courage to ask him. "Sir, may I ask why you need or want something like that?" I questioned with a thin smile, my hands shaking so badly and my palms sweaty from fear that I had to hide them behind my back. The man gave me a slight smile and I let out a sigh of relief immediately. Atleast he wasn't mad at me for not minding my own business. An older man in his late fifties came forward, introducing himself to be the man's beta. My breath got caught up in my throat immediately. 'This man was an Alpha? It was explained that they were investigating illegal magic artifacts, as tracking down forbidden items were part of their duties. "Also if anyone asks questions about this, or whereabouts leading to this, contact us immediately." He told me and I was just about to speak when: One of my colleagues leaned over and spoke. “There was actually someone sir, around last week when I was on duty around last month." Cassie spoke up and I watched the smile vanished from the man's face. Goosebumps covered my entire body especially when the man came over, closer to me that I suddenly found it difficult to breathe and asked about details. "Was it a pendant he got?" He questioned and Cassie nodded while my interest got piqued and I decided to listen in. "Was it the one that blocks a mate from sensing infidelity?" The girl asked again and the stranger nodded. "After we told him that there was no such thing, he left in a hurry and said that we should contact him immediately if the goods arrived. I still have the customer’s contact information." Cassie blurted out and for some reasons, my eyes began to twitch as beads of my gathered on my forehead. A few moments passed and we all stood, with me pacing about, forgetting that I needed to get to my second job or was it home? The paper was handed over with the phone number into man's hand, and as I caught a glimpse, all colors drained out of my face as my heart skipped a beat before stopping. 'Was that?'Raina's point of view Immediately I stepped out of the Seer’s lair, I disguised myself and made my way straight to the palace. The moment I entered my chamber, I froze.Dorian was already there.“Dorian?” I breathed, my voice betraying my surprise.“Raina, where did you go?” he asked, his gaze sharp with curiosity, though weariness lingered beneath his eyes.“I’ve been trying to reach you, but every attempt failed. That’s why I went to meet the Seer,” I confessed. He let out a weak sigh, shoulders dropping. “You didn’t have to put yourself through that trouble.”“But Dorian, I was worried about you,” I pressed, stepping closer. “Don’t tell me otherwise. I know you’ve been carrying all this weight… all this stress… because of me.”He moved closer, his presence overwhelming, his eyes softening as if he wanted to say something more. “Raina—”I silenced him gently, pressing a finger against his lips. “No. Don’t. I know what you’re trying to say. But listen to me instead. Let me fix this.
mRaina's point of view I slipped into the seer's lair and peeled the cloak from my shoulders. He froze, then hissed, "Why are you here?""I need your help," I whispered. He shrugged. "I can't help you. In fact, you've only made things worse.""I didn't, I didn't make anything worse."He smiled, a thin, cruel thing. "No, I meant Dorian. Dorian made things worse for both of you.""Leave Dorian out of this. I'm innocent. That whole dark-magic story was just an accusation, stop blaming me or trying to strong-arm Alpha Dorian into protecting me," I said, every word steady."Well," the seer sneered, "so far, so good. I’ve never seen anyone openly admit to such filth, so I’m not surprised you’re still denying it. But hear me now, soon, your title will be stripped away. A woman tainted by dark magic can never be a Luna." His voice burned with hatred.I straightened my back, forcing myself not to crumble. His words cut deep, but I refused to give him that power. The real blame lay with Luke
Raina's point of view “Please, don’t let him in. He’s not coming for anything reasonable.” Luiz’s voice broke on the last word; his hands trembled as if trying to hold himself together.I stared at him, incredulous. “But you already said you did all of that to save your brother. He’s standing at the door now, so why are you afraid of letting him in?” The question ripped out of me, sharper than I intended.A hot, hollow truth settled in my chest. I’d been right all along. Luiz had been lying from the moment he stepped over that threshold to plead for mercy. The way he clutched himself, the way his gaze skittered away, every small betrayal stitched together into a hard, cold pattern. If he didn’t want his brother here, it meant something worse: there were things he was still burying, secrets he hadn’t dared tell.Dorian stood like a statue, arms folded tight across his ribcage as if protecting something more than his heart. His eyes never left the hallway; they were tired and dangerous
Raina's point of view "I shouldn't have done that," Luiz’s voice cracked, his eyes wide, pleading like a man standing on the edge of a cliff. "But I had, because I had no choice."My chest tightened. I looked at Dorian. His gaze was steady, carved from stone, yet it burned straight into me. Why me? Why would he want me to be the one to decide his beta’s fate?"Dorian…" My voice wavered."Decide his fate." He repeated, unflinching, like it cost him nothing to sentence a man to death.I forced my eyes back to Luiz. He looked smaller now, desperate, clinging to his excuse like it could save him."You had no choice?" I asked, my words cutting through the silence. "Like how?""Barclay; he threatened me!" Luiz’s words tumbled out in a rush, his breath ragged. "He said he’d kill my brother, and that was why, I swear, that was why I did it. I had no other choice!"But I knew. I knew.Luiz was a liar.I hadn’t been there that night when the deal was struck, but I could still see his face in m
Raina's point of view Oh my God...Raina, why didn't you strangle that son of a bitch the day you had the chance?I quarrelled with myself, my mind echoing with blame. Why didn’t you end him?I knew it. I knew it was him.Luke.He's the one trying to ruin everything. My happiness, my peace, he wants it all gone. But for fuck’s sake, isn't that devil ever going to back off?“Do you have any idea who it was?”Dorian's voice yanked me out of my spiraling thoughts. He sounded desperate like his ears were starving for the truth.I took a sharp breath, trying to compose myself.“I—I have no idea,” I lied.He didn't look convinced. And he didn’t waste time sugarcoating things.“If I’m being honest with you,” he said, “by tomorrow, everything is likely going to spiral out of control. I don’t even know what I’m supposed to say to cover this mess. I faked your execution, Raina.”I stared at him.“What are you going to do, then?” I asked quietly.“Ah, fuck men!”He roared the words, slamming hi
Raina's point of view I stood frozen, staring at Dorian, my heart thudding in confused alarm. His eyes once warm, now burned with something cold, distant… almost cruel. I opened my mouth to speak, to ask, to beg for an explanation but no words came.He didn’t say a single thing. Not even a glance. Just brushed past me like I was nothing, his shoulder grazing mine with all the warmth of a winter wind. He disappeared into the restroom, shutting the door behind him with a finality that echoed in my chest."What’s going on?" I whispered, more to myself than to the silence that now swallowed the room.A heavy unease settled in my gut, twisting and turning like a storm threatening to break. Was this about the kingdom? About me?The kingdom? No… No, if this were about the kingdom, his anger wouldn’t be directed at me. He would be pacing, worried, strategizing, not looking at me like I had betrayed him. Then it had to be about me.But what? What had I done?My feet moved before my mind could
