I woke up to a sharp, unforgiving pain twisting low in my abdomen.

It was anything but dull or manageable. This pain came violent and sudden, the kind that knocked the air out of your lungs before you could even swear properly. I dragged in a sharp breath through my teeth and opened my eyes, blinking against the light spilling into the room.
