“What do you want?” I asked, my face neutral.

“Selene, you must stick to the plan. Don’t cause any issues. Do what I said. Behave as if nothing happened and we are still the best couple, I never gave you a divorce.” He said, as if threatening me.

“And if I don’t do that? What will you do?” I asked, my face contorted in anger and my eyes glaring hard.

“Well, I wouldn’t do anything to you, but Grandpa, think about Grandpa’s health.” He said and my face went pale.

He was right, if I admitted that he gave me a divorce, I was risking Grandpa’s health who loved me so much.

My cold eyes glared hard at him, and I wrenched my arm away from his grip.

I looked between him and his mistress, and I turned around to leave.

“Selene you have to do as I told you.” He whispered behind my back as I took off.

I heaved a heavy sigh, torn between what to do.

On one hand, my marriage with Kyle was over and he had his mistress, on the other hand I found out I was pregnant and now I had to pretend everything was perfect until Kyle got his inheritance.

Do I really have to do that? I’m hurting so much and should leave.

Just then I walked into Grandpa’s room.

When I saw him, my heart broke. He looked more fragile than the grandpa I used to know. He had shockingly slimmed down so much. What happened to Grandpa? My eyes held worry, and my face was sullen

Just then, he noticed someone had come into the room.

Then he looked up and when he saw me, for some moment, his eyes brightened.

“Selene.” His frail voice echoed and I hurried to where he lay.

“Grandpa I’m here now. I’m so sorry I didn’t come to see you. How did you get so ill, Grandpa? You need to get well soon I can’t bear to see you like this.” My voice shook as I got more worried—he looked too sick and it broke my heart.

He rubbed the back of my hand gently, “It’s okay Selene. I’m much better now. See?” He muttered, trying to sound jovial but no, it sounded even more frail.

I wondered why he was at his home instead of a hospital.

“Grandpa, why aren’t you at the hospital?” My brows rose as I asked.

Then he laughed “Selene dear, the stock would plummet. If a chairman of a big group like ours falls sick, it must not be known, if not it would affect the market. That's why I have to be treated at home.” his calm voice explained.

He was talking to me so delicately as if I was six years old—how Grandpa doted on me so much.

I rubbed his hand gently “You’ll get better, Grandpa.” I muttered, my voice low as a huge lump already formed in my throat.

“I know dear, so don't feel too sad anymore. And about Kyle, why were there rumors about both of you? Did he really give you divorce papers?” he muttered, his eyes sad and I could see his hand shaking.

How could Grandpa love me so much for his son?

“Selene dear, is this true?” his sad voice echoed once again.

I heaved a heavy breath. Contemplating which one to tell him. Either to tell him everything was fine between Kyle and me or to spill the truth.

I looked at him again and the sorrowful look in his eyes crushed my soul completely.

I wished immediately not to be part of anything that'd cause Grandpa enormous pain.

“Grandpa.. I.. I..” I stammered, still not sure what to say to Grandpa.

Just then, Kyle sprang into the room. Turned out he was eavesdropping.

“Baby, babe I wonder why some people are spreading lies about us. Tell Grandpa we love each other so much,” he muttered and I scoffed. Thank goodness the scoff wasn't loud enough for Grandpa to hear.

“Right? I.. I.. wonder.. what they intend to gain from that.” I played along even though my soul was against it.

I could see the smirk on Kyle’s lips.

He had won again. Even though he treated me like trash earlier and asked me to leave his home because his mistress was coming, he still won, I still had to stay to witness more of this humiliation.

Tears welled up in my eyes, but I held them back by all means, Grandpa must not see that.

“You see, Grandpa, Selene is not leaving for any reason. We are meant to be together forever,” he muttered and Grandpa innocently nodded his head.

I rubbed his hand gently. Then Kyle left our presence.

“Stay by his side dear. Only you can help him. It's only you I know wouldn’t steal or defraud him.” Grandpa muttered delicately and finally, he fell asleep.

I paced up and down the space of his room, my lips pale and my eyes refusing to dry up from tears, my hand gently placed on my stomach.

This was the greatest humiliation anyone could experience in a lifetime.

Must I stay and watch Kyle and his mistress hurt me even more?

It did feel like I was sacrificing myself for Kyle’s inheritance but in the real sense I just didn't want to hurt Grandpa, I mustn't leave now. He was fragile and my thought of leaving would break him even more.

The tears I held in my eyes flowed down freely.

I cleaned up my face and patted Grandpa gently.

“I’m coming back, Grandpa,” I muttered, my voice almost a whisper, and turned around to leave.

I was going to bring my stuff here, to live with Grandpa. If I couldn’t leave because of him, then I should stay by his side and once he gets better and stronger, I’d inform him and take my leave.

I don’t care whether Kyle gets his inheritance or not—I shouldn’t care.

I walked in large strides in my heels out of Grandpa’s estate and hopped into the next taxi

When I got into the house, my jaw clenched tight as I met Kyle and his mistress making out in our living room. I gulped heavily. This was a sight I was supposed to get used to now till Grandpa gets better. I balled my fist tighter and my teeth clenched. Just then, as if noticing me, they disengaged from the kiss.“Selene.” Kyle’s cold voice murmured. I nodded my head and walked past him, but he grabbed my arm. I jerked it off from his grip immediately. “You’re not leaving are you?” he muttered, his eyes panicked Of course I would leave, but after I'm done taking care of Grandpa. “Yes I’m leaving..” he didn't let me finish before he grabbed my shoulder, so tight it was beginning to hurt “What are you doing? Let me go!” I said but he still held on to my shoulder, his eyes getting cold. “How dare you, after everything I said to you? You still dare to want to leave? You want me to lose my inheritance and also risk Grandpa’s health?! How dare you!” his voice sounded, while crush

I muttered, my voice low, struggling to stifle the tears threatening to flow down my eyes. ‎ ‎"Let's talk this through. We've been married for five years. You can't throw this away for no reason. We've been building this for a long time. Please don't do this to us Kyle. And if this is a prank, you got me."
