MasukAstra's POV
I sat in front of the mirror, I almost didn't understand my obsession with watching myself in the mirror lately but I could bet you ten bucks, I was enjoying it.
My silver gray eyes shone brightly and my sleek long hair, I dare say was impressive. Whatever the hair stylist did, I was loving it.
A knock was the only thing that pulled me away from the mirror. Walking away from the mirror as I put together my room.
I loved orderliness and that was why my room was barely handled by the housekeeping staff. They tend to move things hay-way and disorderliness irritates me very much.
You could call it a type of trauma from living life as Trent's mate. I never found things where I kept them, worse still he gave his mistress, Arianna the right and audacity to do whatever and so she'd love my things just for the fun of it.
That irked me to my stomach, always
Astra's POVMy fist clenched, my chest rose and fail with sharp breaths. My blood boiled beneath my skin, rage swirled inside me like an inferno threatening to spill from the surface. I couldn't get over this– to get over the fact that Mary, my loyal servant was gone.Kidnapped. Right under my nose.I wasn't sure what was hurt the most, my heart or my ego. Mary was family, the kind you looked out for but even more so she was my staff, she was a servant of this palace and yet right under my nose as queen, she was Kidnapped. That was an insult to me and to my warriors. And so as soon as the warriors and guards assembled, I didn't hesitate to lash at them. After my ego, it was thiers on the line and maybe they needed a wake up call to realize it."You stand there, on this ground, in this palace and one of you. A member of this house was snatched right under your nose." My voice was cold and loud, sending shivers down their spine. "On your scouts honor, you promised to protect this palace
Astra's POVBoth heads turned sharply to the door-- mine and Jerome's. My hand was already at my side where my dagger usually lay and I was on my feet in one breath."Who is it?" I called out."It's Mark!" The voice was frantic and breathless. "My Queen, Her grace-- It's Mary! They've taken her!"My blood ran ice-cold. The ground seemed to tilt, my body trembled."What?" I whispered, already crossing the chamber."Jerome had thrown the door open. Mark stood there, hair tousled, eyes wild and face drenched in sweat."Shes gone," He gasped, "Gone. I returned from farmers market and she wasn't in the kitchen or our chamber. I searched-- I searched everywhere. I did not see her then there was blood-- just a little," He gasped for air for three seconds and continued, "I tracked her by the scent trail but it ends near the supply corridor."Supply corridor? My eyes and that of Jerome's hit together. "They took her," My voice was barely a whisper, "They took her."The next few seconds felt li
Astra's POVWe sat in silence across from each other at the table, my cup of coffee sat in front of me while Jerome's cup of black espresso and whatever else that was, sat just beside him. You'd think after being poisoned that I would stay away from the coffee but here I was.Tension hung heavily between us, it was almost as heavy as the curtains of this private chamber that made the room appear dark if it wasn't drawn. Luckily today it was drawn so the sun was having it's fun.I leaned forward, my eyes catching the rough sketch of the names and circles forming a web that Jerome had drawn and laid out. I could tell what it was, my fists clenched and I leaned back."She said she heard the spoon clink twice before the coffee was done brewing." I murmured, my voice was low but cold, "Twice, Jerome. But she didn't think anything was wrong even though she hadn't heard it before, it didn't occur to her that anything could be wrong with such small change."Two clinks was an inner house joke.
Astra's POVWas she a tribute wolf? Or one of the naughty ones? Which pack had she come from?Knowing where Dahlia came from could have made this easy and maybe it could have narrowed down my search because a terrifying thought just popped into my mind. What if...This could be a case of insubordination. What if someone from their pack, an alpha, maybe had planned this, sent them here and entangled them in this network. What if someone was dethroning me, right now? What if most of this things were just formalities? What if I was just getting laid , if I was okay with some of the arrangements. What if…My mind was buzzing. I wasn't sure what to think anymore but one thing I knew was that this web was getting stronger and bigger than it started. It was bigger than me– almost. The plot was getting even thicker than gravy. It was not a new thing to have some pups, most especially being sent off to the capital, the palace. Originally, it was meant for naughty kids. If a kid was too hardhea
Astra's POVI didn't sleep in today like I did yesterday, there was much work to do and none of it would get solved if I kept trying to get some beauty sleep. I was no silly female human, my responsibilities were too heavy for that.So I was already seated at my office while the sun was still struggling to fully show it self. I had to make up for the less work done yesterday too.I flipped through the second file, my lip twitching as I read the clauses. Sometimes, I wasn't sure I understood how this small packs think. You clearly knew you were small, small in number, resources and every damn thing and yet you are gullible enough to let a bigger pack unto your territory and now when they want a bigger pie you send a petition to the council.I pinched my brows, For what exactly? To save your sorry ass? To deliver you from the man eaters? It was pathetic and cases like this were not few. I'd almost resorted to leaving it for the council to deal but with the crisis the capital and even mo
Astra's POVWho was this Helena and what role is she playing? That thought immediately pooped into my mind. But I couldn't find out who Helena was myself and so I decided to keep listening, first."She's the only one I allow to make the coffee that I bring to you. Others are for learning purposes.""You are sure she's the only one and she's the one who made today's coffee?"She nodded rapidly at first, then hesitantly. "Is-- is there a problem, my queen. Was it not to your taste?"I propped back into my chair, "It was or maybe I think it was, I didn't get to drink it.""Umm..." She bowed, "I am so sorry, your grace, I shouldn't have let them brew your coffee. This one was brewed personally by me, I guarantee you." She kept her head bowed."Mary," I called, she hummed in response, her shoulders tensed, "Look at me." She lifted her head."I didn't drink it because... it was poisoned."Her eyes widened and I was almost scared it would fall off from their socket then she suddenly plopped
