The police skipped that part and found me being hit by a car on the roadside.

The police looked sympathetic, patting Dexter's shoulder.

They didn't say anything.

Dexter collapsed onto the ground, with a lost and bewildered look in his eyes.

Time seemed to go back to a long time ago, when he was a child of ten.

He watched his sister be born and his mother die.

The pain now was no lighter than it was back then.
