“We can’t exactly drive to Scotland in my Jeep,” he chuckled, catching the curiosity in my expression.

I glanced up at his face, suppressing a laugh. “Yeah, but we can’t go barefoot either!” I shrugged, trying to hide how awkward the whole situation was starting to feel. The remaining uncertainty was almost too much to take seriously.

The Sheriff’s grin faded as he gave a quick nod, his voice lowering to something more serious. “I know someone who can smuggle us into Nymeria, no documentation needed,” he said, eyes flicking between Dominic and me. “But… you’re not going to like where we have to go.”

I frowned at that. "Where, exactly?"

Instead of answering, he asked, “Did you bring your sword?”

I nodded, showing my sword hanging at my waist. He turned on his heel and started leading the way, leaving us no choice but to follow. I wasn’t sure what I expected, but when we stopped in front of the old library, my heart sank.

“The library?” I muttered, looking up at the familiar, looming s

He raised a finger, pointing at her with deadly calm. “If you ever lay a finger on her again…” He let his hand drop slowly, the threat lingering in the air. “You will regret it.” His voice was low, but the danger behind it was unmistakable.Without waiting for a response, he turned on his heel and walked out of the room, leaving Victoria behind in her misery. A scream tore from her throat, echoing through the halls as she hurled whatever she could get her hands on. I could hear the sharp crashes of objects shattering, each sound piercing through my already fragile state. And with each crash, my guilt deepened. I was beginning to hate myself.Evening came, casting long shadows over Lucian’s office as we gathered around the table for dinner. The air between us was thick, the tension from earlier still hanging like a storm cloud waiting to burst. No one spoke of what had happened; it was as if the room was suffocating under the weight of our unspoken emotions.Lucian, however, broke the

"I can’t be the only one feeling this," he whispered, his voice low and full of meaning, sending a tremor down my spine.I forced myself to look away, my eyes falling to the floor as I mumbled, "I don’t know what you’re talking about." My voice came out unsteady, and I made an attempt to pry his hand from my wrist, but instead, he tightened his grip and pulled me closer. A smile, faint but unmistakable, played at the corner of his lips, and it did something to me, something that stirred the chaos I was trying so hard to contain. His breath was warm against my skin, his eyes intense, practically burning through me. I fought to maintain my composure, but it was slipping. He reached out, brushing his fingertips across my cheek, and it took everything I had not to tremble beneath his touch. "You’re forgetting," he murmured, his voice husky and close, "I can hear people’s thoughts."I stilled, my pulse quickening in response to his words. He leaned in even closer, his lips barely grazing m

But the light mood quickly shifted as his expression grew more serious, his eyes narrowing slightly. "Now, down to business." He glanced between us with curiosity and a hint of calculation. "How exactly are you planning to help us?""We’re going to help you catch the witch," I replied with confidence, feeling the weight of the moment settling over me. "But first, I need to see my friend, Luna Redwood." My voice carried an urgency that I couldn’t suppress.Lucian’s smile vanished for the first time, a flicker of hesitation crossing his face. "I’m afraid..." He paused, his gaze flickering between me and my friends, as though weighing how much to reveal. "She escaped."The words hit me like a punch to the gut. "What?" I breathed, my heart suddenly racing. "Luna is one of my most powerful soldiers," Lucian continued, his voice calm but laced with regret. "It was only a matter of time before she found a way out. Captivity was never going to hold her for long."His words sent a chill creep

I met her gaze, trying to remain calm, my lips curving into a weak smile in a weak attempt to diffuse the tension. But the gesture fell flat, dissolving in the air between us. Nothing was going to ease this. I could feel the weight of her emotions pressing down on me, suffocating, as her anger pulsed in the space between us.“You go on ahead,” I murmured to Dominic, nodding toward the building where the Sheriff had already entered. “I’ll catch up.” He hesitated for a moment, his hand lingering in mine, but he eventually nodded, releasing me before heading inside to follow the Sheriff. The moment they were out of sight, I turned to Victoria, taking a cautious step toward her. “Victoria, what happ—” My words never had a chance to finish. Before I could even say it, her hand shot out, striking my cheek with a sharp slap that echoed in the still air. The sting of it jolted my entire being, not just physically but emotionally. Shocked, my hand flew to my cheek as my eyes widened in disbeli

To our right, the river flowed, its waters shimmering in the morning light. The path ahead stretched long and winding, descending the hill in a gentle slope. Thankfully, it wasn’t too steep, but the journey ahead still felt difficult. With every step, I could still feel the pulse of Dominic’s hand lingering on my skin, a reminder of the hunger I couldn’t quite shake off, a hunger that wasn’t just mine.Together, we managed to descend the cliff, our bodies aching from the struggle as we finally found a way into the dark, abandoned city below. What should have been a scenic place with cobbled streets and charming stone buildings now felt like a forgotten graveyard. Silence reigned over the streets, so unnatural it felt as though the entire city was holding its breath. What was once vibrant and alive was now a shell of itself, as if the people who once filled the streets were too terrified to leave their homes. A sense of dread hung in the air, thick and suffocating. It felt like somethi

My mind was a whirlwind of emotions, a tangled mess of feelings I couldn't quite sort through. I’d never felt this way before, but deep down, I knew. This strange connection between us was because he fed on me. When his heart quickened, mine followed, a synchronized rhythm I had no control over. I felt connected to him, drawn into his world, his influence coursing through me. If words could describe it, I’d say I was caught in his trance, an invisible thread binding us together.I could still hear the faint echo of his gulp as if it lingered in the air between us. I wondered, had Victoria ever felt like this? Even if she had, she never showed it. But then Dominic’s words floated back to me—he had told me she could heal herself almost immediately after he fed on her. Perhaps that’s why she never seemed fazed. Maybe she never experienced the dizzying pull, the way my body responded to his every breath.Lost in thought, I barely noticed that I had started to absentmindedly rub the back o
