Liya took a deep breath, clutching her bag as she stood right in front of Kay’s Institute. She didn’t know what she was supposed to expect from the place or Kay himself. She wasn’t even properly dressed for something like that. She was supposed to wear something that looked like she was there to enroll in the classes, but she couldn’t even bring herself to do that.

More than anyone, she knew how annoying, unserious people were going to make reputed people like Kay feel. And she was there for the drama and of course, to get the information that she was supposed to get out of him. That was what she lived for.

Aldo had even given her the liberty and promise to be able to choose something if she eventually got it done. She corrected him immediately, and let him know that she was going to do it all at the end of the day. There was nothing that was going to stop her.

She was Aldo Marino’s partner. She wasn’t supposed to be weak. At a time like this, the only thing she was supposed to be wa

  • Desperate Measures   CHAPTER 93: Her Brother

Liya woke up for the hundredth time. She seemed to have fallen asleep when Damian was speaking. Every single time she woke up, she was sure that they were doing something in front of her but she wasn’t sure what they were doing to begin with. Sometimes, Damian’s hands were all over her and before she would even be able to say a word, she would feel a little prick on her skin before falling asleep again. But this time, she was fully awake and she was thankful they had kept her awake. Her throat was dry and there was a stale taste on her tongue. Her legs were aching, and there was a throbbing sensation around them. She couldn’t think straight, but she was sure that something was wrong. The metal doors clicked open, and someone walked in. Liya struggled to keep her eyes open as she watched the figure approach her. She didn’t care who it was. She wanted to beg the person to just let her go. She didn’t know if the document was still in the same place it was when she had dropped it earlier

  • Desperate Measures   CHAPTER 92: Running For Help

Aldo had a chair facing the door. He was sure that Liya was supposed to return that night. She told him that she was going to go back to Damian’s house and quickly pick something. Then she was going to make her way out. But it was way past midnight, and she wasn’t back yet. Aria was in the chair adjacent to his. She had only stayed up late like that once in her life. And that was the day their mom died. Aldo could only hope that she didn’t think to that extent. She had her hand under her chin as she tried to focus on the cooking show that was playing on the television. But Aldo could see right through her. Her frequent glances at the clock and the door. Or the little sighs that she let out. She didn’t want to ask Aldo if something had happened to Liya on the way. Or if Damian had done something to her. She shook her head to shake off the bad thoughts. Liya had left the house as Irene. And according to what she had heard, Damian was obsessed with Irene… or that version of Liya. “Is

  • Desperate Measures   CHAPTER 91: Tied Up

Her head hurt, and she let out a little moan as she looked around the room, taking in the sight and noticing everything that seemed different. That wasn’t the room that Liya remembered as hers. In fact, nothing looked similar. Nothing seemed familiar. Who would dare to tie her up in a room like that? The room was shady and she was tied to a hard chair that made her waist hurt. There was only one single flickering dim bulb right above her head. As she tried looking up, the bulb suddenly became so bright that her eyes and her head hurt badly. She could feel her dress sticking to her skin. It was soaking wet. She didn’t know what happened, but she was wet. She pulled against the ropes, wanting to get out of that place as quickly as she could. She didn’t know who would have done something like that. The document that she had thrown downstairs was the only thing that mattered and she had to get it back. It might enter the wrong hands again if she didn't do that soon. She was worrying so

  • Desperate Measures   CHAPTER 90: Caught

Liya was very thankful that she had someone like Lillian in the house. She didn’t know how else she was supposed to get into the house without Damian or Alana suspecting anything. As Lillian opened the door with a frown on her face, she looked Liya over.“What are you doing outside at a time like this?” She asked as Liya walked in, trying as hard as she could, not to make any sound. She had her shoes in her hands, and she somehow managed to maneuver her way into the house without making any noise. She was fully aware of Lillian walking behind her, but she wasn’t even ready to answer her. Lillian finally grabbed her shoulder, making Liya look at her while biting her lip. She could still feel Aldo’s hands all over her, and the only emotion she felt was guilt. After talking to him, she went to the shower. She wasn't capable of acting normally at that moment. She didn’t want her actions to alarm him. She didn’t want him to worry about her. She wanted to handle everything just as she shou

  • Desperate Measures   CHAPTER 89: The Unknown

“What do you need?’ Liya asked as she looked up at Damian. She was trying hard to hide the fear that was written all over her. She could only hope that he couldn’t read right through her. Or that he couldn’t see the similarities between her and Irene. She was practically living with him at that point so it was going to be a miracle if he didn’t notice anything similar. “I need to talk to you. Not in front of the kid.”Liya looked down at Aria, who was practically shaking. She didn’t know the kind of audacity that Damian had to come to the Marino mansion just like that. He didn't sneak into the garden like he used to. No, he walked right to the door and asked to see her. That was on another level and it was the sign that she didn’t have much time until everything came to an end. More importantly, she didn’t know when he suddenly started caring whether Aria was present or not. “What do you want to talk about?” She asked and Damian smiled. His eyes were still fixed on Aria. Liya’s han
