CHAPTER 5

TRISTEN

The room is bustling with omegas cooking and preparing dinner for the night, leaving them to their duties. I made my way through the dining hall only to run into Bree.

“Tristen” she says ignoring what I told her the last time about how to address me. realizing her mistake, her eyes widened.

“I mean. Alpha Tristen”

“What do you want Bree?” I asked, annoyed.

“I was wondering if we could have a private dinner tonight, just you and me?” she says batting her eyelashes at me.

I had no plans on spending any quality time with the girl, but I can’t keep being an ass to her either.

“Fine” not really committed to my answer, but to her apparently was the best thing ever.

“Yes! um how about around seven... I will have one of the omegas deliver food to your chambers” she says happily her smile reaching her eyes.

“No” I yelled a bit harshly, watching her smile fade into a frown.

“I’m not saying no to dinner with you Bree, just not in my chambers. Get the Omegas to set up a table for us outside on the patio.”

Her smile returned full force. Happily, she strutted away towards the kitchen leaving me regretting it. The only person I want to have dinner with is Jaela, she’s the one I want to see excited to eat with me, be with me, love me.

Scowling at the kitchen door I debated canceling the whole thing. Although I don’t care to be with Bree, I don’t want to hurt her feelings either. I’ll give her this, but I won’t like it.

Entering my office, Xavier and Skylar are already there waiting for my arrival. Taking my place behind my desk I flop down sighing rubbing a hand across my forehead.

“How’s our guest?” I asked.

They both hesitated. “Ah” Xavier scratched the back of his neck.

“What is it” I asked anxiously.

“Well, we put him in his cell, but when we closed the gate, he shifted back into his wolf” Xavier said annoyed.

“I think he did it because in his wolf form he can’t be forced to speak” Skylar added.

“Hmm smart boy, but not smart enough. If I was able to make him submit as he is a rogue, what makes him think I can’t make him shift back to human?” I tell them.

I’m still trying to figure out how that was possible anyway. No one in history was able to get a rogue to listen to them without torturing them first, why was it different this time?

“When do you want to question him again anyway? Rumor has it you have a date tonight” disgust rose on Skylar’s face. “Last I checked you didn’t want anything to do with her” he snapped.

I love Skylar like a brother, but sometimes he needs to stop being so matter of fact all the time. I know what he wants, but it’s not his choice and he needs to relax.

“What do you want me to do Skylar?” I ask trying to remain calm “you want me to keep dismissing the girl? treat her like trash? Kick her to the curb? At the end of the day Sky, she’s going to be my mate whether you like it or not. Stop pushing for what’s not.”

“I want you to be true to what you really want and need” he mumbles turning his head to the door. If we were human, I wouldn’t have heard him.

“STOP IT NOW!” I yell Banging my fists on the desk, the wood splinting as they landed. “Get out of my office now Beta” my alpha command strong as he bows his head standing to his feet. Without another word he left.

“Okay, what is that about?” Xavier asked waving his hand in the air.

My eyes flickered to his, he held up his hands and stood. Backing towards the door he left as fast as he could. Annoyed, I let my body sink into my seat, glancing at the clock on the wall I curse.

Rushing out of my office I sprinted towards the stairs. Finally at the patio doors I burst through them to angry eyes pointed towards the table.

“If you didn’t want to have dinner with me, why did you agree in the first place?” Bree sneered, disdain dripping from her words.

“Not that I owe you an explanation Bree, but I had a meeting. I apologize for my tardiness” I replied “so do you want to have dinner or not? I do have an early morning and don’t have time to babysit your feelings” I scold.

Her body stiffened at my response, but she didn’t speak. Weighing my words, she tilts her face in my direction and nods. Without another word I pulled the chair back and sat. glancing at my plate my mouth watered in anticipation. Creamy herb chicken over rice and mash potatoes, slicing into my chicken I brought it to my mouth, biting into the juicy piece of meat I moan as the flavor explodes on my tongue.

“I had the omegas make your favorite dish, I hope you’re enjoying it” she says without looking up, I can see the small smile on her face as she tries to hide it. placing her fork In between her lips her eyes pan to mine.

Impressed, I gave her a sincere smile as I continued to dig into my food, before long my plate was clean, and my belly was stuffed. Pushing my plate away, I grabbed my glass of wine from the table taking a generous sip. As the dinner was coming to an end, we both engaged in lite conversation. Quite honestly, I didn’t know much about Bree other than her father being good friends with my Pops.

The more we talked I started to see a different side of her that I didn’t pay much attention to. Of how she grew up, her hobbies, favorite movies, even her fears. Maybe I shouldn’t have written her off so fast, I was so stuck on the fact that she was trying to take Jaela’s place in my heart that I didn’t even consider that she had a mate of her own out there that shell have to reject as well.

Is that fair to her? Because my father was making me mate her doesn’t mean she should miss out on her happily ever after too. “Bree?” I cut her off as she was speaking. Her voice halting immediately, her eyebrows furrowing, and her smile faded.

“Why did you agree to be with me knowing I already found my mate? Did my father promise you something?” I asked more for me, I had to know if there was other motives driving this arrangement.

“I’ve always loved you Tristen ever since the first time I saw you. when your father offered for me to become your Luna, I didn’t hesitate in agreeing” she said wringing her hands in her lap.

“But you have a mate somewhere Bree. Don’t you want to give yourself the chance to meet him, be with him?” I asked, who doesn’t want their true mate? Why would she settle for me? Her love can’t be real for me. Her eyes began to water at my words. Reaching across the table I grabbed her hand bringing it in mine. With a comforting squeeze she sniffled and looked up into my eyes.

Reassuring her with a comforting smile. “Bree you can’t be truly in love with me, that kind of love is reserved for your mate and when you find him you won’t want anything to do with me.” She snatched her hand from mine and crossed her arms across her chest.

“I know what I want Tristen and that’s you! I won’t let you talk me out of this so stop” she yells taking me by surprise at her change of attitude. Pushing back from the table she launched herself onto my lap and forced her lips onto mine. I stiffened, grabbing her by the neck, pulling her face from mine, her eyes still closed, she touched her lips as if they were on fire.

“Please” she says leaning her face back to mine. Opening her eyes, they glistened with unshed tears. My heart softened, what could it hurt to give her a simple kiss? My resolve breaking with each second, she looks at me. Her luscious lips inviting me, I lean in granting her one kiss.

Her lips became aggressive, her teeth biting at my lower lip asking for access. I indulged her, letting her tongue slip into my mouth. Our tongues came together in a duel fighting for dominance. With each passing moment she became more needy. Her hands knotted on my shirt, she slips her hands under the material, her nails raking against my skin.

My mind was sobering as her hand fumbled at my belt buckle. Catching her hand, I stole them stopping her from going places only my mate should go. Abruptly I stood with her still in my arms I pushed her body from mine keeping a good distance between us.

“We can’t, you should go Bree.”

Anger rose on her face in disbelief. “Go to hell, go straight to hell Tristen” her voice laced with venom. Storming through the patio doors they slammed hard shattering the glass.

Un freaking believable!

‘Oh, she mad’ Adriel mutters.

‘No shit’ I spat back.
