"Stop looking at your phone. Can you at least give me a response?"

Seeing that I had completely dismissed his words, my ex's friend, Sam Hayes, was somewhat displeased. I leisurely put my phone down and looked at him calmly.

"Victor may come from a wealthy family, but he hates it when people flatter him because of his background.

"Even though his father serves on the board of trustees, he's never used that for his personal gain. Yet, he actually made a scene in the principal's office just to get your graduation certificate and nearly faced major disciplinary action!

"Claire Webb, do you even have a heart? Don't you feel anything at all?" Sam spoke passionately about past events, as if my lack of emotion was an unforgivable sin.

I frowned slightly and scanned the room. The alumni who were watching our confrontation quickly averted their eyes when they noticed me looking, feigning disinterest while straining to catch every word.

When my plagiarism scandal broke in the past, it caused quite a stir. Even after seven years, I could still see disdain and mockery on these onlookers' faces.

Today was no different. I simply wanted to go backstage in the auditorium to prepare for the upcoming celebration, but Sam stopped me with all this nonsense.

I couldn't tell if he was doing this out of loyalty to his friend or resentment over my sudden departure seven years ago. Or perhaps, someone else might have put him up to it.

But none of it mattered to me anymore.

I sighed softly. "What am I supposed to feel? It's all in the past."

My answer clearly wasn't what Sam expected to hear. He frowned deeply, staring at me in confusion.

I understood why he was making that expression. After all, I pursued Victor Whitmore passionately for three months in my freshman year, shocking the entire school.

After learning that Victor liked to stargaze at the observatory, I went through great trouble to find meteorite fragments and personally made a star necklace for him.

I risked disciplinary action for missing curfew to spend more time with him. I spent three consecutive months camping out at the law school library, pretending like I was just passing by so I could accompany him during his late-night studies.

On a stormy night when I heard he had a fever, I climbed over the dormitory wall to buy him medicine and ended up fracturing my right hand. When he asked about it, I just smiled and said I wanted to test the human body's resistance to pressure.

Victor knew exactly how I fractured my hand, but he quietly listened to my lies. That was also the day he agreed to be my boyfriend.

After we got together, he gave me a moon bracelet in return, saying we were made for each other. He also gave up his habit of late-night studying to stop me from staging encounters.

He even endured the crowded, noisy cafeteria, something this privileged young man had never done before. He stood in long lines just to get me my favorite barbecue chicken while my hand was fractured.

Each small gesture took root in my heart like seeds, growing into towering trees. I thought this tree of love would bloom and bear fruit, but Emma Palmer's appearance made it wither rapidly instead.

Initially, Victor clearly told me that Emma was just someone his father had forced on him for an arranged marriage. He said I was the only one in his heart.

In this standoff, I knew that if I didn't agree today, Victor would never let me leave."Let go first."His hand trembled twice before he finally released me and let it drop. I rubbed my wrist and walked over to a large tree.He followed, saying dejectedly, "Claire, I know you hate how presumptuous I am now."That one sentence successfully caught my attention. Seeing that I didn't lash out at him, he smiled self-mockingly."I realized my mistakes too late, didn't I? I was so stupid. I knew my dad didn't like you, yet I still let Emma stay by my side. I arrogantly thought I could handle that mess without it becoming a problem between us.""What exactly are you trying to say?" I interrupted his monologue impatiently.Victor smiled bitterly as he looked at me. "During this time, I investigated the plagiarism scandal from back then, as well as the truth behind those knife wounds on Emma's arm."It was all a scheme by my dad and Emma. They wanted to deceive me and break us up so Emm

"You've only been in the picture for a few years. How can that compare to the bond Claire and I have shared since childhood? She's just temporarily infatuated with you. When she comes back to her senses, she'll definitely return to my side!" Victor screamed.Noah stared back at him with a mocking smile, saying nothing more. My heart sank. Even though Noah's expression gave nothing away, I knew that he was already bothered deep down.He was probably getting jealous again. To ensure I could sleep peacefully tonight, I quickly spoke up to refute Victor."Victor, stop spouting nonsense in front of my husband! Those years I spent with you were the biggest mistake of my life! My husband is irreplaceable in my heart. I advise you to shut up and get lost before you embarrass yourself further."Victor stood there, the light in his eyes gradually dimming. His voice was barely a whisper. "Claire, do you see me as something to be ashamed of?"Looking at his hollow eyes, I answered calmly, "Ye

"Exactly. From this angle, it looks like Victor doesn't know what's good for him."I looked at him coldly. "Did you hear that? People have sharp eyes. Stop pestering me, you scumbag!"After saying this, I glared at him before turning to continue walking. Victor acted like he couldn't take a hint and continued following behind me, still trying to justify himself. However, he was too stunned to say a word when he saw my icy glare. I frowned and stopped, about to demand what exactly he wanted, when I heard a clear child's voice behind me."Mommy!"I turned around in delight as Ellie fluttered into my arms like a happy little butterfly. "Mommy, I missed you so much!"I smiled and lifted her up, kissing her pale little cheek. "Sweetie, I missed you too."Victor stared at us with his mouth agape. "Claire, she's..."Before I could answer, a handsome figure got out of the car and walked toward me. "Honey, I'm here to pick you up and take you home."Victor was completely stunned, stand

"It's the school celebration today. Stay until it's over, and I won't say anything more."I was about to speak when an announcement came from the loudspeakers, declaring the start of the celebration and asking everyone to enter the auditorium in an orderly fashion. I ignored Victor and followed the crowd into the auditorium.Victor followed me to my seat but was pulled away by a school administrator. "Victor, I've been looking for you everywhere. As the alumni representative, you need to give a speech on stage."He followed the administrator but kept looking back at me. I thought today's chaos was over after that he went away. But before I could even breathe a sigh of relief, Victor publicly presented a diamond ring."Back then, you said you wanted to use 'Wild Roses' to make me a wedding ring. Now it's my turn to propose. Claire Webb, will you marry me?"The auditorium fell silent in an instant, and the eyes of over a thousand people fell on me. I twisted the wedding ring on my

"Married? You're joking, right? Everyone knows you loved Victor to death. How could you bear to marry someone else?"Sam was only surprised for a moment before he calmed down and gave me a look that clearly said he didn't believe me. I was about to speak when I heard the alumni around us begin whispering."You guys might not know this, but I was in the same year as Claire. I saw her chasing after Victor like a lovesick puppy with my own eyes. The shameless way she acted still amazes me today!""Exactly. I was in Victor's class, and I would always see her bringing homemade lunches to the law department. He never ate them once, but she kept doing it tirelessly.""Look at her claiming to be married now. I bet she's still bitter that Victor didn't protect her during the plagiarism scandal, so she's playing hard to get.""Victor is now a hot eligible bachelor. Who wouldn't be dazzled by him? I doubt she'll be able to keep this act up when she sees him.""Ha, a gold digger like her mig

Emma also appeared at that moment, her eyes red as she accused me, "Claire, I could overlook it when you plagiarized my designs for your previous assignments…"But this graduation project, the 'Wild Roses' series, is something I created specifically for Victor's birthday. He even helped me with the revisions. How can you still claim you didn't plagiarize it?"All the cameras turned toward Victor in an instant as the reporters waited for his response. I looked at him too.Victor avoided my gaze and said to the reporters, "The 'Wild Roses' design is indeed Emma's creation. When we studied together late at night, I watched her draw the blueprints with my own eyes."I completely froze in place. Walking toward him under the flashing lights, I stared into his eyes and asked, "Are you certain that I plagiarized her work?"My eyes were filled with tears, and my voice was choked up. Victor's eyes showed his reluctance and internal conflict, but in the end he still insisted the design was E
