Chapter 1

Author: Chill Zen
I placed Liam Morgan's photo in front of my parents.

They exchanged a look—clearly uneasy.

“Destiny,” my dad began, “we know you’ve liked Lucas since you were little. Maybe you should reconsider—”

I shook my head.

“If this is what fate chose, maybe I should try going along with it… just this once.”

I already knew how things would end if I forced that marriage to happen.

Seeing that I was firm in my decision, my parents gave in with a sigh.

“All right. We’ll reach out to the Morgans and discuss the engagement. But Destiny, both the Meyers and the Morgans are high-profile families. To avoid any unnecessary trouble, we should keep this quiet until the actual engagement party.”

I agreed. But on my way to a charity gala that night, reporters swarmed me. Somehow, the news was leaked.

“Miss Meyer! Have you chosen which family you’ll be engaged to?”

Another reporter jumped in before I could speak.

“Everyone knows you’re in love with the Whitmores’ son. It must be him, right?”

I looked up and met Lucas Whitmore’s eyes as he stepped into the venue.

Surrounded by cameras and press, his expression was as cold and dismissive as always.

“Excuse us.”

His bodyguards pushed the reporters aside. He walked past them without hesitation, pulling a pale-faced Claire Monroe into his arms.

“My heart has always belonged to Claire,” he said. “Even if I’m forced to marry someone else for the sake of the family, I will never give a single shred of my love to anyone but her.”

Claire’s cheeks flushed pink as she clung tightly to his waist.

Nearby, a few socialites—girls who had never liked me—giggled quietly.

“So what if she’s the number one heiress? Mr. Whitmore clearly wants nothing to do with her. All that wealth, and he’s still into the daughter of a nouveau riche.”

“She’s such a disgrace to the Meyers. She threw herself at Lucas just to play second lead to Claire.”

Their voices got louder, the mockery sharper. Claire lifted her head from Lucas’s chest and gave me a smug, triumphant look.

I turned away and focused on the event.

Of all things, the organizers had to seat Lucas right next to me.

He sat down with tension in his jaw, still clearly upset.

“Destiny Meyer.” Lucas snapped. “How many times do I have to say it? I don’t want to marry you. Why won’t you just let me go?”

I’d heard that line more times than I could count. It still hurts, even now.

“I’m not holding on to you.” I said quietly.

He slammed his fist onto the table, eyes full of disgust.

“Then why do you keep forcing this? Just because your family outranks mine, you think you can decide my future for me?”

“You’re stomping all over my dignity. Even if we do end up married, don’t expect me to ever look at you.”

And he meant it. In my last life, he didn’t give me a single ounce of affection.

Just then, the woman he claimed to love walked over. Her eyes were glistening with tears. She didn’t say a word before dropping to her knees in front of me.

“Miss Meyer, I know you hate me. But my parents didn’t do anything wrong. When you had security throw them out, my father almost had a heart attack.

“I’m begging you, please leave us alone. I’ll even back off and let you have Lucas, if that’s what it takes…”

The bodyguards looked wronged.“We were just trying to throw him out. He’s the one who ran into the doorframe.”On the hospital bed, Lucas was gasping for breath, pointing weakly in my direction.“Destiny… my head hurts so much…”Liam quickly pulled me back and told the bodyguards, “Get him a nurse.”Just as we were leaving, Lucas began vomiting and frantically pressing the call button.I watched the doctors and nurses rushing in and out, sighing quietly.“Liam, let me talk to him.”Once the door closed behind me, Lucas’s face lit up.“Destiny, I knew you wouldn’t abandon me. I knew you still cared.“It’s not too late. You love me. I love you. We can get our marriage license tomorrow. Don’t worry—I’ll give you the perfect wedding. Whatever you want, I’ll make it happen…”“Lucas, why don’t you understand?”I cut off his fantasy with a cold voice.“When I said I didn’t love you anymore, it wasn’t out of anger. It wasn’t because of Claire. It was the truth. I really don’t lov

We were stunned for a moment. When we turned to look at Lucas, his face was dark with anger.“Destiny, stop lying to yourself,” he said coldly.“You left that ring on my desk. It was proof that you wanted to marry me.”Liam finally understood and let out a small smirk.“I remember now. A month before I transferred schools, I was seated next to him.”So that’s what happened—Lucas had misunderstood.“Good thing it still ended up with me,” Liam said, holding up the ring.I laughed and slid the ring onto his finger, completely ignoring Lucas, who was still standing there with a bouquet of roses in his hands.“Destiny! Even if that ring wasn’t meant for me, you’ve loved me all these years!” Lucas shouted.“I still have all your old love messages saved. You can’t deny it!”He sounded so sure of himself. He even opened his phone and showed me those old texts where I confessed my feelings to him.I glanced at the screen, but didn’t linger.“You’re right. I loved you for many years,

“This time, she designed a whole outfit and even made custom cufflinks just for her engagement to Liam. As her mom, I’ve never gotten that kind of treatment.”The adults around the table laughed. I lowered my head and smiled quietly.Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Liam scoot his chair closer. Half his body leaned against mine.“Why aren’t you wearing the bracelet?”His voice was soft. I leaned in and whispered back, “It’s too valuable. I want to save it for the wedding.”He smiled again. There was something tender in his eyes that made my heart skip. But something inside me felt strange. In my past life, I didn’t remember ever meeting Liam. Even in this life, when I pulled his photo from the pile, I just thought he looked vaguely familiar. But I couldn’t figure out why.It was like he read my thoughts. He slid a photo across the table—a photo of me from elementary school.“Wait… that’s me?”I looked up at him, stunned. And then it hit me.There was a transfer student in

Lucas laughed.“Well, if it isn’t Mr. Morgan. I didn’t think my engagement to Destiny would be enough to drag you out from your seclusion.“What’s the matter? Been meditating so much that you started confusing my fiancée for yours?“Everyone knows Destiny Meyer has only ever loved me. She’s been chasing me since we were kids.”Liam stepped in front of me, shielding most of my body. Only half of me was still visible.“Lucas, open your eyes. This is my engagement party with Mr. Morgan.”Lucas followed my hand, looking in the direction I pointed. Before he could spot the names on the banner, both of our families walked out to greet the guests. My parents had always treated Lucas politely before I made my final decision about who to marry. But this time, they ignored him completely and smiled only at Liam.“Liam,” my mom said kindly, “Destiny can be a little stubborn sometimes. Please be patient with her.”“Don’t worry, ma’am,” Liam replied gently. “Destiny and I get along well. I

“Fine,” Lucas said coldly. “But you have to agree—after we’re married, you’re not allowed to interfere with any of my decisions. And you’re not going back to the Meyers. You’ll live in our house, take care of my parents, and look after Claire and me.”A maid brought over a prenup and placed it in front of me.Printed right at the top was this:[50% of the Meyers’ total assets to be included as wedding gift to the Whitmores]I clenched my hands, refusing to sign. My eyes burned red as I glared at him.“Lucas! I’m not even marrying you!”Margot seized the moment and slapped me hard across the face.“Is this the kind of girl the great Meyers raised? To be disobedient and disrespectful to her future husband?!“Looks like someone needs to teach you proper manners before you embarrass the Whitmores after marriage. Don’t worry, I’ll do the job your parents clearly failed at.”That day, I lost count of how many times I was slapped…How many times they forced my hand onto a contract…

On Claire's account that had millions of followers, she posted a photo with the caption:“A perfect day: the right dress, the right hand to hold, listening to music I love.”The image showed her and Lucas holding hands, kissing like no one else existed.Almost immediately, the media started digging through my old posts—especially the ones where I’d publicly confessed to Lucas. They lined them up next to Claire’s and turned it into an online roast session. The worst part? Lucas liked one of the top comparison videos. That made everything worse and added fuel to fire.“Destiny Meyer humiliated” became a meme.I deleted my account without another word and sent a message to our company’s PR team.Ten minutes later, all the related posts and trending hashtags were wiped clean....The day before the engagement party.I stopped by the office to handle some documents, but before I could even settle in, two of the Whitmores’ bodyguards forced me into a black SUV and drove me straigh
