Tuesdays were even worse. That was the day of practical combat class, which ate up the whole damn afternoon. Two days in a row at the start of the week having to see William’s face was enough to drain whatever positive feelings I had left for the rest of it.

After getting kicked out of his class yesterday, I was today’s hot gossip. Instead of just ditching and going home, I figured it was smarter to hide out in the library and actually get some research done. That way, if William was waiting for me again, he’d be out of luck.

I focused on the clan rulebooks. I pored over every single page, hoping to find a way to break the bond with William without being punished for it. The more I read, the more frustrated I became. At this rate, I’d probably become an expert on internal clan regulations before we even had our second class—and still come up empty.

After an entire afternoon of reading, I decided I’d had enough. William’s class would’ve ended by now anyway. My conclusion? Just like the

I felt Lisa laughing inside me, and I let her mood and energy flow through my body.“Professor, don’t go easy on me just because I’m your student. If you wanna beat the hell out of me, I won’t hold it against you, alright?”“I don’t plan on going easy,” he said, taking his stance. “I want you to give it your best too. Let’s see what you’ve got! After I beat the crap out of you, will you finally start listening and doing what I tell you?”“Of course! As long as you manage to leave me with a few bruises, I’ll do whatever you want. Otherwise, I’ll respectfully ask to drop the class. I refuse to beat up my dear classmates for no reason.”“Attention! Let’s begin!” he announced, without directly acknowledging our little wager.I took a defensive stance and waited for his first move. With his noble blood and bigger build, he was naturally much stronger than me. I just had to be more skilled and precise—and I had plenty of both. After dodging a few punches, he moved quickly, trying to open me

I walked alongside Annie, who looked surprised that I wasn’t skipping combat class today. For this class, we had to stash our stuff in the school lockers. Showing up at the training zone with unnecessary items or any kind of electronics was strictly off-limits. We stopped at a wide clearing behind the school, right at the start of a trail that led into the forest.“Well, look who decided to show up today!” Lorraine sneered as soon as she saw me. Took her long enough to come bother me—I was starting to think she’d forgotten I existed. “Try not to screw up my boyfriend’s class again.”“Isn’t she that human? What’s she doing here?” I heard one girl whisper to another a few feet away. They were third-years from another class.“Don’t you remember what happened last week? Wolf or no wolf, she still has to train like the rest of us. That’s what the instructor said.”“Poor thing! Not!” Even though they were whispering from a distance, I could hear them crystal clear. That’s been the vibe arou

Without caring that I’d shred my clothes, I shifted into wolf form and walked around a bit to shake off the drowsiness. William quickly shifted too and urged me to go ahead. I started running, and he stayed behind me. My mind was gradually clearing up, allowing me to pick up the pace. As soon as I got home, William stepped back a little so I could shift back to human and go inside. The first thing I did was grab a robe to cover myself.William’s scent was strong, and I heard him come in. I walked out of the bedroom and saw him sitting on the couch in the living room. It looked like he was waiting for me.“What do you want from me? Why did you follow me?” I asked softly.“I just wanted to make sure you weren’t sneaking off to meet another man. I can’t stand the thought of that,” he said. There was pain in his eyes. “Come here for a second. Don’t worry, I’m not going to do anything to you. I promised, remember?”I took a deep breath and slowly sat down next to him. My heart was racing,

I didn’t go through any major torment over the weekend. When I went to give Caroline her piano lesson on Saturday afternoon, William wasn’t there. On Monday, I overheard some of my classmates saying that William wouldn’t be teaching the theory class — the beta would be taking his place instead. It was a great way to start the week. I left that class hoping William would be gone for a long time and that John would take over the subject for good. When I got home, I ignored all my responsibilities and went straight to bed. I planned to go back to the waterfall to talk to Mister Mysterious — it was the perfect time, especially with William out of the picture. When I woke up in the middle of the night, I grabbed a cereal bar and started eating it as I undressed. I left the house, hid the key in the bottom of the flowerpot, and shifted into wolf form. We’re free again! Lisa shouted inside me. I let her take full control and felt the joy of running alongside her. As soon as we got close to t

Only after the fear and desperation faded did I begin to realize how reckless I’d been. I hadn’t just provoked the heir’s wrath—I’d also gone completely against my wolf’s feelings. She wanted nothing more than to go further with her mate. Even so, Lisa retreated inside me and just watched.“How are you?” I asked, worried. Our mate has no self-control! she said. You were always right. He’s not worthy! So what do we do now? I asked in my mind. I wanted to know how far my wolf was willing to go to end this torment.I can’t reject our mate. I still want him... but I won’t stop you from loving someone else anymore, she replied. That was enough for me. Before, just the thought of having another man in my life made her scoff. Even when I thought about Mister Mysterious, I could feel her disapproval—a solid wall of resistance in her thoughts and emotions.Just to be safe, I figured I should stay away from Mister Mysterious for a few days. William was unpredictable, and it was hard to know how
