Arabella

"The reality," he murmured standing to his feet. "that you are nothing now."

His voice was a cold whisper.

"That you have no purpose... except the one I decide to give you."

"That you cease to be a person."

He stopped in front of me, towering.

"That you no longer have the luxury of a will. Or thoughts. Or a name that matters."

I wanted to scream. To hit him.

“And the fact,” he said coldly, “that there’s only one thing I’m keeping you for.”

His eyes dropped—slow, deliberate—down to my chest.

I saw red.

Boiling, seething rage surged through me.

“I had nothing to do with that auction,” I snapped, voice shaking. “You cannot buy people. Not in this day. Not in this age.”

“I don’t have any money,” I said louder. “But that’s not a crime!”

“You don’t get to claim someone like they’re a piece of property!”

My voice was rising. I could feel it.

But I didn’t care anymore.

“I don’t even know how I got there in the first place,” I hissed. “Not really.”

“I know how those places work. Some

Arabella “This is childish, Lucas,” I said sharply, pushing the papers aside. The same routine, every single morning, it was wearing me down to the bone.I was tired. Tired of him sitting across from me, slicing into his breakfast with the same cold elegance while I choked down humiliation. For several days now, I’d done nothing but cry through his carefully curated torment.“You went through hell, I get it.” I hissed, unable to keep the bitterness from my voice. “My father crushed you, stepped on you like you were nothing. But does this," I gestured around us with trembling hands, “does this make you any different?”He paused, mid-slice. A flicker of something, maybe interest, maybe amusement, passed across his face.“You’re probably much worse,” I whispered, almost to myself, shaking my head.I looked up, meeting his gaze with fire in mine. “What kind of sick game is this? You’re not teaching me anything, Lucas. You’re just a bully. A bored one at that. Surely you can come up with

"Arabella Montage," Lucas gritted through clenched teeth."You don’t get a say in destroying yourself, or your life. That choice belongs to me."It was long past midnight when he finally re-entered her room. The moonlight spilled in through the tall windows, casting silver streaks over her sleeping form. She lay curled on the large bed, her dark hair sprawled across the pillow Her expression wasn’t peaceful, it was strained, a faint crease between her brows, her lips parted slightly as if caught in a troubled dream.Lucas stood by the edge of the bed, unmoving. He stood at the edge of the bed, watching her sleep—peaceful, yet not quite. Her brows twitched in discomfort, her breaths shallow and uneven. She looked fragile. Too fragile. His hand lifted unconsciously, drawn toward her cheek… but he stopped mid-air, his fingers curling into a fist. Why did his hands itch for her?Why did the sight of her, soft, vulnerable, and maddeningly beautiful, stir something primal in him?His jaw c

Lucas paced the length of the corridor restlessly like a caged predator, hands clenched at his sides, jaw locked tight. What the hell had she been thinking? It wasn't what he was thinking right? He asked himself in doubt. One moment she was eating, suddenly obedient for once, too obedient, and the next she was on the floor, gasping for air, her body convulsing in his arms. For a terrifying second,it seemed her heart had stopped. She'd gone limp. And now she was behind closed doors, being attended to, while he could do nothing but wait.Minutes dragged by like hours. Finally, the doors creaked open, and the doctor stepped out, removing his gloves with practiced calm.“Sir,” the man began, “it appears the young miss suffered an allergic reaction to something in her breakfast.”Lucas froze mid-step. His eyes sharpened, fixing on the doctor with a cold, unreadable stare. “So it’s confirmed.”“Yes, anaphylactic shock. Severe, but she’s stabilizing. She'll be okay."“Beth!” Lucas barked

"The next union is coming up at The Gentlemen’s Society," Don Antonio announced, his voice casual as he reached for his glass of aged brandy. "You’re expected to bring your new pet."He didn’t need to elaborate. The message was clear."It’s tradition. New acquisitions are to be showcased."Lucas’s knife slowed, then stopped against his plate. He didn’t look up immediately, but his grip on the cutlery tightened for the briefest of moments before he placed them down with controlled grace."Let’s see how crushed and broken she is by then," Don Antonio added, his lips curving into a faint smile that never reached his eyes.Lucas finally raised his head. His eyes were void of expression, a mask he wore with ease."I’ll pass," he said simply, rising from the table."You can’t," Antonio responded sharply, not missing a beat."She’s not a personal indulgence. She’s part of our cause."Lucas turned slightly, just enough to meet the Don’s gaze over his shoulder."She’s my property. My responsi

Arabella I stood frozen in the center of the bedroom, stark baked, heart pounding, staring at him.He stalked toward me, slow and deliberate, and my pulse raced wildly. What did he want? What was he going to do?I fought the urge to flinch, meeting his gaze with defiance. His eyes roamed my body, lingering, and I cringed, hating every second. He stopped inches away, our eyes locked in a stubborn standoff. His hand grazed my chin, and a shiver rippled through me, betraying my resolve. The cold bite of his touch, the weight of his stare, I felt my body tighten, nipples hardening against my will.I stood paralyzed, caught between the chill and a strange, unnameable heat.My skin burned, as if set aflame.“Don’t touch me!” I roared, voice cracking. He seized my face, pulling me against him. My bare skin pressed flush to his, the contact overwhelming.“You still haven’t learned, have you?” he taunted, eyes glinting with amusement. His hands slid to my bare back, lifting me closer. My brea

ArabellaI lay there, shivering on the cold tiles, long past the point of knowing how much time had passed. Minutes? Hours? I couldn’t tell. My body ached from lying curled in that corner, but I didn’t move.My eyes were dry now, completely. Every tear had already been shed. I had cried until my chest burned, until there was nothing left to give. Now, all that remained was fury. Cold, bitter fury.Rage pulsed through my veins hotter than any fever. I hated him.I hated Lucas. That twisted, heartless bastard who had humiliated me, broken me down, and played me like a puppet. Everything about him, his voice, his gaze, the way he carried himself like the world should bow at his feet. The fear I once felt had vanished, burned away by what he’d done to me. There was only hate now. A hate so sharp, it sliced through the numbness like glass.Every time he demanded something, I swore I would give him the exact opposite. I would be his thorn, his nightmare. If misery was the only power I h
