Prologue

Damien’s P.O.V.

“Damien, It’s time.” I look up to see Lucifer himself standing in front of me imposingly. 

Lucifer is an intimidating presence no doubt, but not what most humans think of him. He doesn’t have red skin or horns, instead he is a large, muscular, olive skinned man with long dark hair and black eyes. He is almost to beautiful to look at even for me. 

“The girl will be 18 in one month and will be able to choose sides. We must make sure she chooses ours.” Lucifer finished.

I had spent most of the last 17 years preparing for her 18th birthday. For the day I would mark her as mine. I have watched her and watched over her, keeping her safe and learning all about her. 

What started as a job, a duty to make sure she felt our side was her only real choice, became an obsession. 

Our plan had been put in motion years before, creating a rock band to travel the world bringing in kids her age from everywhere knowing one day she would show up. Devil’s Night is now the most popular band in the world with teens and young adults. While simultaneously being the most hated band in the world with their parents. We have fans everywhere just dying for a chance to spend a few moments with us and I, Damien Raines, am the frontman. 

It finally happened about 2 years ago. She turned up to a show outside of Dallas TX. I immediately knew she was there before the show even started. I could feel her energy, that familiar energy I craved so much. She was intoxicating. Just being in the same area as her had my blood on fire. 

I could tell she was enthralled with the band as so many before her. After the concert I had made sure she would find band promotions anyway I could. Fliers, emails, social media. The first time I saw her in a Devil’s Night t-shirt I knew she was hooked. She was mine and soon she would know it too.

Her name is Synestra Simmons and little does she know she holds the fate of the world in her hands.
