Chapter 5

Synestra’s P.O.V.

I woke up with a start when my phone began to ring. I reached toward the nightstand feeling for my phone without opening my eyes. Who would be calling me this early I thought to myself. Grabbing the phone I rubbed the sleep from my eyes noticing Aly’s name flashing across the screen.

“Hello? “ I asked sleepily.

“Gril, where are you at?” Aly asked.  “You already missed first period.  Albert is sure you have been sacrificed. I think Gabe was waiting to be able to walk you to class.”

“Oh no, I can’t believe I overslept. I was out so late and then having these amazingly realistic dreams.” I explained. “Cover for me I will be there in just a little bit”

I rushed to get ready and got to school just as second period Chemistry was beginning. I took my seat at the table with Aly and Albert, I noticed Gabe had lso now joined our table and it made me smile.  I don't know what it is about Gabe but even after the amazing night I had with Damien Gabe somehow sent shivers down my spine when he looked at me. I could feel Aly and Albert’s eyes on me. I tried to ignore it, keeping my head down and my focus on my book, but I knew there was no getting past this. It would eventually come up. I could feel their eyes burning a hole through me, I almost thought I could hear the questions in their mind. What happened last night? Did you spend the whole night with him?  What was it like? Did you sleep with him? Did you see anyone get sacrificed? That last one was definitely Albert. I knew I would have to answer all of their questions, just not here, not in front of Gabe. I wasn't sure what there was between us, if anything, but I felt wrong to talk about another guy in front of him.  Though I felt that I owed him an explanation after not returning last night.

“Sorry about last night,” I said looking at Gabe. “I didn't intend to ditch you guys, it was a crazy situation. I hope you enjoyed the rest of the concert.”

“Hey, no worries. It’s not every day you get to meet your favorite musician, and you’re right it was crazy. It almost had me thinking Albert’s crazy sacrifice theory might have been right. Just glad to see you are ok.” Gabe replied.

“I think you just got lucky, they must have known you had friends with you that knew where you had gone so they couldn't sacrifice you.  Did you see them bring any other girls back? What was Damien like? Did he try to drink your blood?” Albert asked, totally serious.

“Honestly Albert, Damien is just a normal, very nice guy. All the rumors about him are ridiculous.” I laughed. Albert always had some crazy conspiracy theory he was going on about.  I had learned to just look past it.

Before I could be quizzed too much more the bell rang signaling the end of class and beginning of lunch. I sat at the table with Aly as she began to question me. I knew she wouldn't let up, I had to give her something. I told her about the club, about dancing with him and the kiss.  I left out the more intimate parts. I told her how he drove me home holding my hand the entire way.

“I can't believe it, he seems like such an asshole, like a super hot asshole but still. He seems like he would be the type to offer you cab fare after sleeping with you. Although I would still do it in a heartbeat.  Please tell me you invited him in and rode him all night. Please tell me that's why you were late.” She asked

“No but he did ask to see me again today after school.” I told her

“You are going to do it right? Girl, its time to let loose, and its perfect he will be leaving soon so he wont distract you from school and getting your scholarship just fuck him and release some of that tension.”  The bell rang again signaling lunch time was over.  We went to our separate classes. The day went pretty quickly, though I don't remember much of it.  I had a hard time paying attention all I could think of was what Aly had said about Damien leaving soon. Was he just treating me nice to get in my pants before he leaves? That didn't make sense there were too many women throwing themselves at him everywhere he goes, he wouldn't waste that much time on me just fo rsex right? When the last bell of the day rang I couldn't wait to get out of there and hopefully see him again.  I realized I had never given him my phone number but he did drive me home last night so maybe he would come by my house if he really meant it.

I stopped at my locker to put away my books. I closed my locker and headed towards the cafeteria when I heard giggling behind me. “Can you believe she is telling everyone she met Damien Raines, that he asked for her specifically and she spent the whole night with him? That's so pathetic. Like he would really want anything to do with her?” I turned to see Krystal Mccelroy and her little group of followers directly behind me.

“What is your problem Krystal?” I asked.

“Oh I just think it’s sad you are so pathetic you feel you need to lie to try to get people to like you. I bet you didn't even go to the concert.”  Krystal snickered. Krystal and I had never gotten along, it didnt help that 2 year ago she had a crush on Sean Masters and he asked me to homecoming. Since then she has done everything she can to make me look bad. I wasn't about to let that happen this time.

“Look I never said anything to anyone about what happened last night, I can't help that people are so interested in how my night went. Just like I can’t help how jealous you are about it.” I said seething.

“You are such a liar I was at that concert and I didnt see Damien pick any girl from the crowd, and I sure as hell didn't see you. Do you have any pics to prove it? Of course you don't, because it never happened.” She said thinking she was so smart.

“Actually he took me to Club Diablo after the concert. We spent the night in the V.I.P. section, But I’m sure you wouldn't know anything about that because even your daddy’s money can't get you into that club.” I smiled as I walked away to catch up with Aly and Albert.  I noticed Krystal and her lackies had caught up to us as we were walking out of the front doors of the school.

“Tell Damien I said hi, oh that's right you don't know him. What a loser.”  she sneered.

I could tell Aly wanted to say something but I tugged her arm and kept her walking. Krystal wasn’t worth it. We began to walk down the stairs with the rest of the mob of kids rushing to get out of the school when I noticed a crowd gathered and everyone acting like something big was happening.

“What’s is going on up there?'' I said to Aly.

“I am curious too, lets go check it out.” Albert replied.

I walked to the back of the crowd trying to see what was happening. These are the times I really hate being only 5 foot 1” I couldn't see over everyone. That’s when Krystal came pushing through the crowd. “Excuse me let me through. I want to see what is happening” she ordered. I finally made my way through the crowd and couldn't believe what I was seeing. Everyone was gathered around a black Range Rover and leaning against it was Damien.  I could hear the whispers as I walked through the crowd.  I saw Krystal talking to him with a stupid flirty giggle. He looked up and our eyes locked. I felt a blush creep up on my cheeks.I watched as he walked away from Krystal while she was still mid-sentence. He made his way over to me and wrapped his arm around my waist bringing my body flush against his. He smiled a devilish smile and planted a kiss on my lips. Usually I would be anxious about such a public display of affection, but with him it made my skin feel like it was on fire. I needed his touch and I didn't care who was around.  He pulled away and I could see Krystal fuming. He grabbed my hand leading me past her to the car.

“Did you need a picture of that to prove it happened?”  I asked her as I got into his car.

“I can't believe you are here.”  I said to him as he pulled off.

“I couldn't wait, I needed to see you. I have been thinking about you all day. You have some power over me. I can’t explain it.”  He said squeezing my hand. “I have a surprise for you.  Can you get away for a few days?”
