Lisa's POV

The smell of roasted chicken and herbs came up the stairs as I made my way down for dinner. Stanley was an excellent chef. He was excellent in a lot of things.

My stomach growled, reminding me I hadn't eaten since breakfast. Maybe tonight would be different. Maybe Andre would be nicer today.

I stopped in the doorway.

Andre was already seated at the table, in his usual spot at the head.

Diane sat in my usual seat next to Andre, her fingers brushing his arm as she laughed at something he said.

She had a shawl around her shoulders and a glass of wine in hand.

I stood there awkwardly, unsure if I should turn back or pretend I didn’t see them. But it was too late. Diane saw me first.

“Oh, Lisa,” she said brightly. “There you are. Join us.”

I opened my mouth, unsure of what to say. My hand clutched tighter around the staircase railing.

"I'm not hungry," I lied, already backing away.

Diane's pouted. "Don't be silly. You can stay."

"I'm okay. I can just eat in my room.”

  • Did I Steal My Fiancé’s Ex Identity   Chapter 37

Andre’s POV Present DayI sat in the dining room, checking the time for the third time. The clock on the wall was ticking so loudly. I’d already finished my coffee, and my car keys were on the table. The car was ready. My briefcase sat by the door. I checked my watch again. She was never late to see me off. Lisa was usually down by now.Ever since we had started… whatever this thing between us was, she always came down to see me off. Even when we weren’t speaking much, she was still there. But this morning, nothing.I pulled out my phone and sent her a message.Where are you?I stared at the screen, waiting for the typing bubble to appear. Nothing.Stanley appeared in the hallway. "Sir, the driver is waiting." I nodded. "Give me one more minute." I typed again. Lisa? Then deleted it.Maybe she was still angry. I wouldn’t blame her. I didn’t handle things well yesterday. That stupid fall.I rubbed my forehead and leaned back. I never even asked Lisa if she really pushed her. I

Lisa's POVPresent DayDr Camille didn't pick up at first.I sat on the edge of the hotel bed, hugging a pillow to my chest and my phone to my ear.The room was small and smelled like disinfectant. The curtains were half open, and it was still raining.I wondered why there was a lot of rain these days.Maybe that was just the state of my heart… the skies were weeping on my behalf. My suitcase was by the wall, untouched. I wiped at my cheeks with my sleeve. I hadn’t realized I’d been crying. I felt so alone out here, all by myself.I didn’t know what I was doing.I scrolled through my contacts. No one else to call. There were only a few people on that phone. One of them was Stanley. I stared at Dr Camille's number again.I hesitated; my thumb was hovering over the call button. It was late. Way past working hours. The clock on the nightstand read 11:37 PM. Too late to call. But she was the only person I could call. I tried calling her again. I needed to hear a familiar voice.I pressed

Lisa's POV Present DayI zipped the suitcase slowly. The sound felt loud in the quiet room.It was raining outside. Heavy drops against the windows. But I didn’t careDiane’s little act had pushed me over the edge: the fall, the fake tears, the blame. And Andre…He chose to believe her.Not even a single question. I didn’t want to cry anymore. I didn’t even want to feel. I just wanted to leave.Andre was probably still with Diane, making sure she was "comfortable" after her little performance. I didn’t make a sound as I folded my clothes, tucked my sketchbooks between layers of fabric. My hands didn’t shake. That surprised me. I folded one last shirt and shoved it in the suitcase. I didn’t need much. Just enough to get away for a while. Maybe forever.I pulled the engagement ring from my finger. The metal felt colder than it ever had.I set it gently on the nightstand. He could have it back.He could have all of it back.A man who truly loved me wouldn’t treat me the way he was do

  • Did I Steal My Fiancé’s Ex Identity   Chapter 34

Lisa's POVPresent DaySaturday used to be our day.It used to be our time together. Since we started getting incredibly close, after we had made love for the first time, Andre always made sure he didn't work on Saturdays, so we could spend time together. We had similar preferences. We weren't the outdoorsy kind, so we liked staying at home.Andre and I would curl up on the couch, wrapped in blankets, watching whatever movie was on. His arm around me, my head on his chest. Just us. We'll be watching something funny on the TV, we barely paid attention to because we were always talking instead. But that was before Diane came. Now, I hardly saw him at all, so I went about my Saturdays alone. This Saturday was no different. I came down the stairs, hoping maybe today would be like before. Maybe today, he would remember me. These days, I come downstairs and the whole house feels like someone else moved in and took over everything I loved. I knew Andre would be getting ready for work

Andre POV(Present Day)The screaming woke me up.It was almost 3 a.m. I sat up, my heart pounding. It was Diane's voice.I threw the covers off and rushed to her room. Stanley was also standing by her door, still fully dressed in his butler uniform as though he hadn't slept.I threw the door open. She was crying. Another nightmare. She had been having constant nightmares these days, and it only kept getting worse. She was sitting on the bed, gasping, drenched in sweat. Her blanket had been thrown off, and she looked around like she wasn’t sure where she was.“Diane,” I said softly, stepping inside. Her head snapped toward me. She looked terrified.“It’s okay,” I said, walking slowly, like I was a frightened animal. “It’s just me. You’re safe.”I crossed the room and knelt beside her. Her hands were fists in her hair. Her breath came too fast. “Diane.” I kept my voice low. “You’re safe.”She covered her mouth with one hand, the other gripping her sheets tightly. She didn’t stop sh

LISA'S POV FLASHBACK (CONTINUATION)He pulled back just a little, his hand resting on my jaw.I looked at him. “You kissed me this time.”“I’ve been wanting to,” he said. There was no more talking after that.He kissed me again. I kissed him back. His hands slipped around my waist, and I let myself lean into him.I could feel the rhythmic thumping of his heartThen we sat still, facing each other on the basement couch.I wasn’t sure what I was doing. But I didn’t want to stop.I touched the hem of my shirt nervously. His hands covered mine, stopping me."Let me," he murmured.I nodded. His fingers were careful as they lifted my shirt over my head. His touch was light, like he was afraid I’d break. Like I was something precious.I shivered when his hands slid down my arms. His thumbs brushed over my collarbones."You’re beautiful," he said.I didn’t know how to answer, so I reached for him instead. My fingers fumbled with the buttons of his shirt. He let me take my time. When his ches
