On my way back a light switch on in my head with a great idea. We will go to Del Forno, a nice little cozy pizza place its not utopian, it’s like a friend hang out, I should try to make it feel casual and not demanding. I don’t want to pressure him in to something he doesn’t want. Yeah, Del Forno sound perfect for us at the moment.Driving up to Shane’s apartment, Rayon sits on a bench waiting. I slide out the car and ignore his presence completely. I don’t have time for his self pity speeches and heartless apologies besides I have nothing to say to him. “Ann.” Rayon’s gaze lock on mine and a painful smile pulls on his face. “We need to talk.”“Rayon please just go.” Storming to the entrance, he jumps up and block my path.“Just listen, okay.” He cage me in with his arms, I feel the anger boiling as I roll my eyes at his demand. “You know how you use to talk about our wedding.”“Seriously, Rayon. Have you come here to scratch old wounds?”“No, I just wondered, if
I slide into the driver’s seat, grabbing the steering wheel tight, smiling like a child who just got a new toy, a soft giggle escapes me. Lorenzo smirks at me as he put his seatbelt on. A frown pulls on my forehead as he brace himself. “Don’t trust me?”Lorenzo just grins in response, “Drive, baby girl.” The engine roar’s to life, a deep growl vibrates through the car and up into my bones, as a stream of adrenalin gushes through my body. “If I knew you’d enjoy it this much I would have let you drive a long time ago.” His eyes sparkle with joy as we pull out the parking lot and speed down the road. The power is intoxicating, now I know why he prefers this car. I tap the accelerator and the car hurtles forward, devouring the road beneath me. “Lilly-Ann” Lorenzo says, nervously. I let out a chuckle. “Don’t worry handsome, I’ve got this.”We fly through the traffic, breaking most of the speed limits. “You did this before.” Lorenzo grins proudly.“Yeah, my cousin and I, would drive sports
Sleep did not come for any of us. Clara and Maggie took the beds, I did not mind the sofa at least I have the TV to keep me company. We did not talk about the evenings events, it was an awkward silence, so we skip the drinks and head straight to bed.I flick through the channels, looking for something to watch, but nothing seems to peek my interest. Picking up my phone I hoped for a text from Lorenzo but nothing, his been silence as well, He looked worried when that Steven guy told him his mother is looking for him. I text Lesley about the shooting but he just ignored me. No clue why. Man so many unanswered questions, it kinda pisses me off. After a long fight, I lost the battle against sand man and drift off into a eventful slumber. Nightmare isn’t quite the word I would use, more like a horror. I jerk up almost falling to the floor as a cold sweat runs down my forehead and my whole body trembles in fear. With my heart racing at full speed and my breathing unsteady, I check the clock
When a strong woman falls from grace, she muster all her strength and rise to her feet. She allows her soul to weep and her heart to heal in private. But when she faces the world she face it with so much grace and dignity that no one dares to question her resilience. The uber driver stares at me in the review mirror, with empathy dancing behind those eyes of his. We came to a stop in front of Shane’s apartment building, I hope his not there I can’t face him now. “Thanks” I slide out and race to the foyer.“Hello” I mumble as I enter the apartment, with no reply a relief wash over me, I’m alone, I don’t have to explain or talk, I can just sit on a couch and cry to my hearts content. But my solitude, is rudely interrupted with a hammering on the door. Sobbing back my tears, I rise to open the door.Lorenzo stands there, dripping wet hair, bare foot, dressed in sweatpants and a t-shirt that doesn’t match, he looks horrible and lost. “Lilly-Ann” He whispers breathlessly as his eyes gaze i
If there is one thing I’ve learned is that you don’t mess with boys and their football games. Tonight is boys night football, beer and cigars, with a few snacks. Shane is not really into that type of thing, it bores him to death, but he will never stand in Lesley’s way.We start working on a few bite size snacks for the guests and stock the fridge with beer, Lesley dressed into his team’s shirt and join us in the kitchen. “Please baby, I know you mean well, but why don’t you move the sofa so every one can see.” Shane sigh as he take out the poppers from the oven.“Good idea.” Lesley laughs shyly scratching his head as he exits the kitchen.I can’t help but giggle at them, Lesley can’t even boil an egg, but his always willing to help. The door bell rings. “I’ve got it.” Drying my hands on the kitchen cloth I make my way to the door. “Hi” I smile sweetly.“Hey, um is this Lesley’s place?” A tall glass of water ask, gazing at me with deep blue eyes from under his honey blond hair.“Yes.”
It’s been a month since I heard from Lorenzo. He send me a very short, don’t worry message, without explaining anything, he did not even tell me where he is. So instead of worrying I throw myself into my research to keep my mind occupied.“Lilly-Ann, just think for one moment.” Regina furrows her brow as she scans over my progress. “I can’t nor will I publish this mediocre story. You have no hard proof.”“But that will at least get his attention, just approve the piece.” I say fiddling with my fingers.“Did you just hear yourself? Your acting like a needy child. We don’t poke the bear, we lock them up.” Regina throws the papers on her desk and inhale sharply. “People like Lenkov has their fingers in all sorts of pie’s, one’s we can’t afford to make enemies of. So if you take him down you need to do it right, or else he will just walk free on bail, paying a heavy price for his freedom. And of course he will sort out the lot whom is responsible for his capture. If and only if you get h
The doors to the art gallery swings open, we are greeted by the soft hum of hushed conversations and soft soothing music that relaxes your being. The air is thick with the smell of lavender incense that irritates my nose and causes me to sneeze, drawing all the eyes on me.“Bless you.” An elderly woman whispers behind me, smiling warmly at me, the middle age woman next to her just cringes her nose in discuss. “Mother, let’s move to the far corner of the room, we can’t have you catching whatever this girl has.” She flicks her jet black hair over her shoulder scrutinizing me. The poor elderly woman barely keeps up as she's being pulled along.“Way to make friends.” Shane smiles, handing me a tissue.“Thanks, well that was Lenkov’s mother and ex.” I shake my head, blowing my nose softly in a tissue. “I hate lavender.” I mumble to myself.Shane let’s out a huff, “I hate assholes, especially the one that’s approaching now.” Shane glares over my shoulder at the door, Rayon and Michael joi
As the first ray of sunshine filters through my window, I stirred from my slumber to the sweet melody of birdsong outside. I open my eyes with a fluttering in my chest, I stretch my arms and legs languorously, relishing in the warmth of the sun’s embrace. After more then a month apart I will finally see him again. A soft chuckle escapes me, it is true what they say. Absents does make the heart grow fonder, for some at least. I would really not mind to never lay eyes on some people ever again.I reach for my purse to get my phone when the card of Olga flutters to the floor. Oh, crap, I forgot about our meeting today, I should probably call and cancel. My phone buzzes.Morning Baby girl.I can’t wait to see you, I will be arriving around 3 this afternoon, have a few matters I need to attend to. I’ll pick you up for dinner at my place. I will cook😎See you.Three, that’s still nine hours away and then he will probably shower and unpack before picking me up, so give or take I have eleven
