LOGINSUMMER'S POV
I slowly woke up, also trying to fight the throbbing headache I was feeling. "Where the hell am I?" I thought. The place smelt like woods mixed with cigarettes, and another thing that smelt like lavender. "What a weird combination." I thought. I woke up fully, and observed where I was. It was still in the club. I did not know such place even existed. "You are finally awake." I heard a voice and I raised my head to see who it was. It was the special guest, still with his mask. A lady was giggling at a corner. "She is confused." She said. She was also masked. "One moment, I was serving a "special guest" and the next moment, I'm in the lion's den. What a sweet plot twist." I chuckled. "Oh! Girl. You were really sweet, I wouldn't lie about that. But work has to be done." He smiled and carrased my face. I held the urge to spit into his face. I felt really dirty. "Was it because of what I stole?" I asked him. "Maybe. Or... not." He said and opened the door. Another strange man walked in. "The famous Dark Bird." He said to me in his not - so - deep voice. He was also masked too. "I guess, it is a company of masked men, right?" I spat out blood. I tried to stabilize myself on the chair I was tied to. "Oh! Yeah!" The lady giggled again. "Why am I here?" I asked again. "Very simple. Work for me!" The older man said with a straight face. I bursted out into a huge laughter. "What the hell?" I said, still laughing. "You are so funny." "Does this looks like a content to you?" The lady said and she walked up to me. "Your life is in our hand right now." She bent lower and lifted up my chin. "Oh! You think so?' I questioned. "No, I know so?" She answered, rudely. "Back to business. Dark Bird, you have a little brother right? And you don't want him to suffer. You live in a borrowed apartment. This is your only source of survival. So you do as we say." The younger man spoke. And the mention of my younger brother, I froze. I do love Clyde , a whole lot. Which I why, I do what I do to survive. "You don't want us telling your manager, that you drug the people you serve and steal from them. Right?" He tried blackmailing me. "Let me think. I said. "Why should I work for you? I asked them. "Because you will gain from it. This is monney, girl!" He replied me. Sure, It is money, but I do not know these people and I do not know what kind of job it is. Let's try to run away, I thought to myself. "Do not think of it, little princess." The older guy caressed my face. "You are in our domain." "Think fast, do you want to work with us or not?" He asked already, losing his patience. "What if I don't want to?" I spat. "Claiming feisty? I love that." The younger one smirked. "Then you leave us with no choice." He said. "Come in. The two huge looking guys walked in and came towards me. "You can do whatever you want to do with her." He said and went to sit down. "This will be so sweet to watch." The lady chuckled, brought out her phone, and began to record. "You do not want to do this." I screamed out. "Will you work with us then?" He didn't even flinched. "Hell no!" I tried to defend myself, but me being tied up, I could only do a little. I wondered why they wanted me. I was a girl trying to survive and make end meet. I heard my phone ringing, but I cared less at this moment. "Why me?" I screamed again. "Because I want you! You are fit for the job. Work for me and you will be free." He replied, without a single emotion. "Every deity on earth, please help me." I screamed it in mind. Maybe I was lucky, someone suddenly entered. "What do you think you are doing?" The stranger growled. "And who the hell are you?" She asked and walked up to him. "You stay out of it!" He snapped and pushed away. "Ouch! My wrist." She winced, she fell on her wrist. The huge bodied men let me and walked towards the stranger. The other men just sat down, and watched how the series was going to unfold. It went to fast. One punch leading to another. I took the opportunity and tried to run. But I was grabbed by my hair, by the lady. "You go no way." She slapped me across the face. I knocked her in the stomach and ran behind my knight in the shining armour. "Bravo!" The elder man clapped. "What a sweet scene." He smirked. "You let her go, and I would leave." He whispered slowly. His voice sounded like the echoes of waves. "Mind asking why you care?" The younger guy asked. "I saw someone in need. It is only right I help out. Anything wrong with that?" He asked angrily. "What a good Samaritan you are!" The lady exclaimed, still massaging her wrist and stomach, from the pain. I knew we were running out of time. Leaning in close to the stranger, I whispered directly into his ear, "At the count of three, we run. The door is wide open." He gave a barely perceptible nod. "One... two... three... go!" I breathed. "If you run, I will post this video on every social media platform simultaneously!" the woman threatened sharply, raising her phone. "You don't want your pretty little face to be the laughingstock of the city, do you, Dark Bird?" I froze instantly. My grip on my savior's hand tightened until my knuckles turned white. My breathing hitched. The threat of me being exposed paralyzed me. The stranger felt my sudden tension. He stepped in front of me, his eyes locked onto the woman. "Try it and see what happens," he threatened smoothly. Click. "Too late. It’s uploaded," she smirked triumphantly. A cold dread washed over me. My life is completely over, I thought, tears finally welling up in my eyes. I slowly looked up, bracing for the worst, only to be caught by a profound wave of shock. The woman was staring down at her hands in utter disbelief. My savior hadn't just threatened her; during the distraction, he had swiftly snatched the device right out of her hands. With a sickening crunch of metal and glass, he snapped the smartphone completely in two, dropping the useless pieces to the floor. The sheer rush of adrenaline, fear, and sudden relief was too much for my exhausted body to handle. The room began to spin violently. Slowly, my knees buckled, and I slumped toward the cold ground. "Hey! Hey, stay with me. Come back to your senses..." That deep, reassuring voice was the last thing I heard before the darkness fully consumed me, and I blacked out.SUMMER'S POV."Summer!! We've found it. His location." Felix screamed. It was his voice that jolted me out of my thoughts. I hurriedly returned back to the living room."Where is he?" I asked impatiently. George just stared at me, stared at Kingsley, but did not say anything."The same IP address we got from before." He turned the computer towards me."The same building?" Kingsley asked, finally. "The same one I went to?" He moved forward t9 check the computer. He stared at me for a little while but did not say anything."There isn't any time to waste. Let go!" George said as we prepare to set."I would suggest that Summer stays behind." Kingsley spoke again."What do you mean by that?" I stopped at my tracks and slowly turned to look at him."This isn't the right time for that. Let's all go." George cooed us. I gave Kingsley the 'God - saved - you' kind of stare and walked. We were set and Kingsley drove us there, since he has been there once.It was exactly 11pm when we arrived at
SUMMER'S POVThe drive back to George's house was silent the entire way. Felix had stayed behind to take Eleanor home and would meet us later. Nobody spoke. Nobody seemed to know how to. Everyone was lost in their own different worlds.I stared out the window, watching the streetlights blur past, my mind spinning through every version of what might have happened to Clyde. My hands wouldn't stop shaking."It's going to be fine, Summer." Kingsley's hand found mine, steady despite everything simmering between us since the rooftop. "We're going to find him.""How?" My voice cracked, and I hated how small it sounded. "He texted me. He said he was going to some welcome thing with Gabrielle and he'd be back the next day. That's it. That's all I have.""We'll find him," Kingsley said again, his grip tightening around my fingers. "I promise you."I wanted to believe him. I wasn't sure if I could. I fought the tears from falling, because how do you explain this situation.By the time we got to
SUMMER'S POVThe hospital hallway had gone quiet in that particular way hospitals do in the evening; machines humming somewhere behind closed doors, the occasional squeak of shoes on tile, everyone's voices dropping automatically like the building itself demanded it."Discharge papers should be ready in twenty minutes," the nurse said, glancing between George and me. "We'll need her son to sign for her.""He was right here," George said, frowning, scanning the waiting area like Kingsley might materialize out of the plastic chairs. "Kingsley?"No answer. No Kingsley."I'll find him," I said, already moving before George could offer. Some part of me needed the walk, needed a minute away from the fluorescent lights and the smell of antiseptic and Felix's restless leg bouncing against the chair beside me.I checked the cafeteria first. Then the little chapel near the east wing, which felt like a strange guess even as I made it. Then, finally, I found the stairwell door propped open with a
CLYDE'S POVI got Gabrielle home in one piece, though "in one piece" felt generous. She hadn't said a word the entire drive. She just stared out the window with her arms crossed like she was holding herself together by force."Keys," I said outside her door, holding out my hand. She dug them out of her bag without looking at me and let me unlock it, let me steer her inside with a hand hovering near her back, not quite touching. I got her a glass of water. She didn't drink it. I got her a blanket. She didn't need it, but she pulled it around her shoulders anyway, like the weight of it helped."You don't have to babysit me," she said eventually, curled into the corner of her couch."I'm not babysitting. I'm making sure you're not about to fall apart the second I walk out the door." I sat on the edge of the coffee table across from her. "There's a difference.""I'm fine.""You keep saying that word like it means something." I studied her face - still pale, still tight around the eyes. "Y
CLYDE'S POVThe moment we walked into Daniel's house, I felt every head in the room turn.Gabrielle had her arm looped through mine, chin lifted, every inch the girl who knew exactly the entrance she was making. Whispers followed us through the crowd - some about her dress, most of them, I was fairly sure, about me."Relax," she murmured through a smile that never wavered. "You look like you're walking into an exam.""I don't do well with people staring," I muttered back."Get used to it. You're mine tonight." She said it so easily, like a line from a script, and I told myself that's exactly what it was. A performance. Nothing more.We hadn't even reached the drinks table before a girl I didn't recognize appeared at my elbow, all lash extensions with a rehearsed laughter."You must be Clyde." She said my name like she'd been practicing it. "I'm Natasha. I've heard so much about you.""Good things, I hope," I said, keeping it light, keeping it short."Depends who you ask." Her eyes dra
CLYDE'S POVSummer had called me to say she'd be at the hospital with Kingsley's mother, which left me exactly where I didn't want to be - alone with my own thoughts for the night."Earth to Clyde!" Gabrielle snapped her fingers in front of my face, bringing me back to consciousness. "What are you thinking about, that made you zone out, completely?""Nothing much. Just this and that." I shrugged it off. "You ready?""I was born ready." She grinned, already reaching for her bag. We were headed to a party one of our friends had thrown together; a stand-in welcome party, since the real orientation showcase had been pushed back."Strapless gown or corset gown?" she asked on the walk over, hooking a hand on my shoulder like it meant nothing. It really did not mean nothing. But I went rigid under her palm."Either one. You'd make both look good," I said, and coughed to cover how stiff and awkward that came out.Her house was quiet when we got there. We finally Thankfully, no one was stalking
SUMMER'S POV The rest of the week went by so fast. I had to give George a detailed explanation of how I ended up in a stranger's bed. He would not stop budging me until I had explained myself. We promised to keep it a secret from Clyde. He would go overboard about it.George has been my best frien
SUMMER'S POV I gradually woke up, but yet again in a strange but comforting apartment. I stood up slowly, trying not to a make a sound-my head still throbbing seriously. The air felt so fresh, as I sighed in relief.I began to feed to my eyes. The house was magnificent: high ceilings, soft recesse
SUMMER'S POV I arrived at the club very late. I knew I was going to be scolded by Mr Noel, the club manager, but I cared less. Life was already hard enough for me. I clutched my bag, so tightly like my depended on it. Because my life really depended on it. I walked in, slowly. The club reeked
SUMMER'S POVThe silence in the small music studio felt heavy, thick, and suffocating. I was completely frozen, my eyes glued to the illuminated glass of my phone screen as the anonymous threat stared back at me. The picture of Kingsley and me hugging outside Saint Peter's Hospital felt like a noos
