LARDON VEXLEY POV

"Who is this?" Mireya Duskrell's smooth voice comes through the slate speaker before my mouth can even shape a word.

My hot breath catches right inside my throat, and my skin turns totally dry.

Draven Calder did not save my private number with my name on his device. My male frame just shows up on his screen like an unknown rogue caller.

I look down at my boots in the dirt and ask real quietly, "Is Alpha Draven there?"

"The Alpha is right here by the desk, but my wolf is afraid

"Lardon, your tongue is being awfully formal with my ears," Draven says, and his deep voice sounds real cool, almost teasing—it is hard for my brain to tell if his beast is mocking my male status or not.I look straight down at the spirit painting sitting on my desk and let his small comment slide away. Instead, my mouth asks, "Your tongue said your hands would send me digital photos of Vesper Vale’s copy—the small details of the canvas brush. My inbox has seen zero files from your slate. Did your memory forget the data?""No."Draven sounds completely indifferent about the files. My brain does not understand his short answer, but I keep my tone real calm. "If your claws have a free minute, could your fingers send them over to my slate?""Lardon, my wolf would do anything for your body. But not this task. My claws cannot promise that data to your hand." His refusal sounds real heavy and final—leaving zero room for my tongue to argue with his alpha status. My brow turns down with a rea

LARDON VEXLEY POV"Your wolf is breaking the bond?" Grandfather Ilyra asks, and his old face looks super blank like he cannot understand my words at all.He looks at my flat mouth for a real long time. My face shows zero sadness and zero joy to his eyes, just a calm look. His old hands start to shake real bad against my fingers, and his voice sounds like he is crying. "So that is it... That explains why his big truck always leaves our cabins so fast..."The real truth is, our whole bloodline always knew how things stood between my frame and Draven Calder. How could our wolves not see it? But still..."Lardon, tell your grandfather honestly—did your claws end the mate bond with Draven because Aziel Crowbane came back from Bloodmoon Iron Hold?"That is the biggest fear hiding inside his old chest. After all these winters of getting bitten by the Calder line, why did my feet wait until Aziel was let out of the prison gates to drop the marriage scrolls?"No, Grandfather, it has absolutely

Aziel narrows his eyes at us. "Well then, Mr. Calder, I will leave Lardon in your supreme care tonight."My brow turns down with real bad worry. There is something super strange about the way his tongue said those words to my husband.Draven, on the other hand, shows zero reaction to the dig. "Of course, Crowbane. It is only right for a mate."He looks every bit the picture of a proud, dignified Alpha leader, so much so that my brain cannot tell if his heart means a single word of it.Aziel hesitates for a moment, looks at my coat one last time, then turns his boots around and leaves the cabin to run off to his partner. My heart finds itself caring about this third moon ritual way more than my wolf expected. It is, after all, a true final farewell to my father's spirit. My frame does not need to stay awake all night by the fire, but my thoughts have been real restless lately, and my spirit actually feels a lot steadier with my father's memory close by. Tonight, my plan is to keep a lo

LARDON VEXLEY POV"Nothing is set in stone yet, Alpha Calder," Orion Greyclaw says, and his gay voice sounds super surprised that Draven knows about the trainer spots already. "Are your claws looking to recommend a young wolf for the flight systems program?""As a matter of fact, my wolf is," Draven answers, and his face looks real proud and cold like a high leader.Orion does not push his tongue to ask more questions. The answer is too easy to see. I am standing a short distance away by the wooden pillars, and Orion looks at my face with a big hesitation in his eyes like he wants to tell me a secret but stops. Everyone in this room has spent winters running pack business for the Calder Dominion and Nighthowl Systems. How could Orion not see the real truth behind Draven’s big boots showing up at our cabin?Clearly, Draven came here to grab the trainer spot for his favorite line, nothing more.He certainly did not bring his truck here because his mind was thinking about my male body.B

Mireya Duskrell POVMy eyes only see the picture from Silverclaw Academy because Tavros Kane forwards the data link straight to my communication slate.Tavros thinks the whole thing is super funny. "Lardon Vexley really cannot sit still in his empty cabin, can he? He has already pulled Alpha Calder down from the mountain paths. Is the boy doing this just to spit on your face?"Our servants had planned a giant event at the valley resort, everything set for the feast—except Draven had bailed on the main wagon. My brow turns down with a real heavy look.I stare at the digital photo on my screen—Draven’s big hands holding Lardon’s male frame steady in the dark cabin—and my face shows zero feeling to the room. "The Vexley boy is more calculating than my wolf thought. My spirit cannot pretend to be fragile and helpless like his male frame does."So Lardon only looks cold and aloof on the outside. In the end, his paws still throw his body straight at Draven whenever his wolf gets a single ch

LARDON VEXLEY POV"I am not late for the ritual, am I, male mate?"My tongue stops moving right in the middle of my words.I spin my boots around fast, my eyes going wide because my brain thinks my ears are playing a giant trick on me in the quiet cabin.Zephan and Grandfather Ilyra look over toward the wooden door, looking just as super surprised as my own face.Draven Calder walks straight inside the stone room, his big frame looking real calm and powerful.Aziel Crowbane narrows his eyes, his mouth falling open a little bit because his wolf never expected Draven to give my line this kind of honor by using a sweet mate word in front of the family. But my mind knows the real truth. Today it is just the Vexley pack inside these walls. There are zero foreign Alphas here, so Draven does not have to worry about his high status. He can play this fake game easily because if even one outside scout from another pack were sitting at our table, my ears would never hear him drop a soft word to
