ALEXIS

"That was unlike you." I smiled gently, setting down my fork. I dabbed my mouth with a napkin before placing it on the table. "Why don't we talk somewhere else?"

Xavier smiled as he set down his spoon. He stood up, grabbed his car keys, and left the building with me. We walked along the street with no destination in mind.

Occasionally, I glanced up at him and noticed the deep furrow in his brows. I couldn't help wondering if my question had touched a sensitive part of him. Lowering my gaze to the pavement, I regretted bringing it up. I hadn't meant to stir up painful memories.

I bit my lip, trying to think of something to say, when his voice suddenly broke through my thoughts. Before I realized what was happening, he grabbed my arm and pulled me toward him.

"What were you thinking?" he asked sharply, breathing heavily.

My eyes darted around before freezing on the open ditch just inches away from where I had been about to step. My eyes widened as cold sweat spread across my body. I turned back to Xavier and saw the worry etched across his face. His brows were tightly drawn together, but there wasn't a trace of anger in his eyes.

"I-I'm sorry," I whispered, my heart racing. "I got distracted and didn't realize where I was going."

The rest of my words died in my throat when he cupped the back of my head and pulled me into his embrace. It felt as though everything inside me shattered, and every wall I had spent months building crumbled into pieces.

My wolf howled as an unfamiliar sensation surged through me. My body grew warmer while a familiar scent drifted into my senses. My eyes widened when countless thin red threads bloomed into view. One thread in particular was tied around my pinky finger.

Slowly, I traced it until I realized the other end was wrapped around Xavier's finger.

No...

It couldn't be.

He slowly pulled away from the hug, disbelief written all over his face.

Did he know too?

Could he feel the mate bond between us?

"Alexis," he muttered.

At that moment, I knew Xavier had felt it too but this bond was different.

My gaze remained fixed on the crimson thread connecting us, and for reasons I couldn't explain, my heart overflowed with happiness.

Mate, my wolf growled.

He's my fated mate.

"I-I..." I quickly stepped away from him, putting as much distance between us as I could.

I wasn't ready for this, not when I was still broken.

"It's alright, Alexis," Xavier said gently, raising both hands in surrender. "It's okay."

I rubbed my arm as I looked into his eyes. The pain in them only made my guilt worse. The mate bond pulled at my heart, urging me toward him with every passing second.

No.

I didn't deserve something like this.

I couldn't go through the same nightmare again, only to be abandoned when I was no longer wanted.

I simply couldn't.

I couldn't trust anyone—not even myself—to fall in love again.

"Hey." His soft voice pulled me from my thoughts. "Would you like to have a drink with me before work starts?"

I opened my mouth to refuse, but when I realized he was deliberately changing the subject, I understood that he didn't want to make me uncomfortable.

I appreciated that more than he probably knew.

"Sure." I smiled faintly. "Where did you have in mind?"

He tapped his jaw thoughtfully before looking down at me.

"How about your house?"

"Huh?" I blinked several times. "My house?"

He nodded, his lips curling into a sheepish smile.

Hell no.

"Sure," I heard myself say instead.

He chuckled and wrapped an arm around my waist, catching me by surprise. Ever since I'd met Xavier, he had always had the habit of holding my waist or hugging me whenever he sensed something was bothering me.

I smiled despite myself as his fingers gently squeezed my waist while he led me toward my house.

We arrived in no time.

"Stay here while I go upstairs to change," I said. "These heels are killing me."

He nodded without saying anything and headed toward the bar area. He had been here enough times to know his way around.

I glanced around to see whether Mom or Dad was home, but thankfully, they weren't.

After slipping into my room, I sent Mom a text asking where they were.

Her reply came almost immediately.

[I'm with your father. We'll be back in two days. Make sure you take care of everything before we return.]

A chuckle escaped my lips.

"They still act like they're on their honeymoon."

I pulled my hair loose, letting it fall down my back before unzipping my skirt and changing out of my clothes.

Standing in front of the mirror, my eyes drifted to the mark on my stomach.

A sigh escaped my lips as sadness slowly settled over me.

I gently rubbed my stomach, and the emptiness I'd spent months trying to bury came rushing back.

My baby would have been several months old by now. My vision blurred with tears, but I quickly wiped them away.

Then my eyes drifted to my own reflection.

My wolf stirred restlessly beneath my skin.

A strange warmth spread through my body, sending an electric sensation across my skin.

My wolf howled again only then did realization strike me.

Fuck.

My wolf was entering her heat.

And even worse...

My fated mate, Xavier, was downstairs.

"I have to do something before—"

A strangled moan escaped my lips as my legs instinctively pressed together.

I hurried into the bathroom and turned the shower on as cold as it would go, hoping the icy water would wash away the overwhelming desire burning through my body.

It didn't help.

"Are you sure you're alright?" Xavier asked for what felt like the hundredth time as he poured a drink into my glass.

I nodded frantically, pressing my thighs together as another sharp wave of pain shot through me. My entire body felt like it was on fire.

Fuck.

"I don't think you are," he said quietly as he set the glass down and stood.

I immediately stepped backward.

Inviting him here h

ad been a terrible idea.

My vision blurred before I could stop myself...

I crashed my lips against Xavier's, kissing him like a starving woman.

XAVIER"Do you want to come inside?" she whispered sultrily into my ear. I gulped, my palms turning sweaty. My heart raced and I felt my wolf stir.'Say yes,' he growled.I looked down and saw her already gazing up at me, her hands pressed against her chest. My cock throbbed painfully. It can't be. She's doing this intentionally, right? There's no way such a small gesture from me would make her invite me to spend the night.'Stop overthinking and answer her,' he snarled impatiently."Um… yes, sure." I rubbed my neck, looking elsewhere."Great!" She clapped her hands. "Come inside."I watched her walk into the building and quickly followed, making sure my car was locked. Warmth seeped through my skin the moment I stepped through the door.My eyes swept the place. Memories of what was supposed to happen the other day replayed in my mind. I wouldn't reject the offer to have her as mine, but knowing what she went through, I didn't think she was ready to give her heart to someone, especial

  • Discarded To Desired: Out Of My Way Ex Husband    Do You Want To Come Inside?

ALEXISI ran a hand through my wet hair as I stepped out of the bathroom. My eyes drifted to my laptop on the bed, and memories of everything that had happened today replayed in my mind."Oh God." I covered my face. Never in my entire life had I imagined the day would come when I'd reject Dyson in front of everyone.A slow smile spread across my face as I sat on the bed before falling back and staring at the ceiling. It felt really good.No... I felt good. Seeing the hope die in his eyes and the anger replace it filled me with satisfaction. He must have been shocked, thinking I'd let everything go just because we had some "good" history together."This should keep him as far away from me as possible," I muttered.Just then, my phone buzzed.I patted the bed, searching for it before grabbing it and bringing it to my face. It was a message from Xavier.Come to think of it, we hadn't really spoken much after what happened the other day.[Hey, are you awake?]I stared at the message, wond

DYSON"Ooh! Baby!" Mandy moaned into the bed, her ass rippling as I pounded into her. As my mother said, I fucked out all my frustrations on her. This was the only stress relief I had, and one of the reasons I was glad to have her as my wife. She grabbed the bedsheet to steady herself as I slammed into her, as though I wanted to break her back with the force I was using. The headboard crashed against the wall with heavy thuds. I grunted, feeling how tightly her p*ssy squeezed my c*ck."Shh," I groaned, my head falling back. I didn't want my mother or anyone else to hear her screaming like a slut, but then again, it was my house. I was the one who owned it. I owned everything here, including the woman I was fucking."Mmm!" she moaned obediently, her screams lowering into strangled moans. I lifted my hand and struck her ass, my fingers sinking into her soft flesh. She yelped, and her juices squirted onto my thigh.I held her waist, biting my lip.Yes... this was what power felt like.Th

DYSON“Do you think she's really going to reject our proposal?” my assistant whispered beside me. “This is the last option we have. After this, the company will collapse, and the debts we have won't be paid in any—”I slapped my thigh irritably. “I know. I know everything that will happen.” I glared at him before turning to the executives who had been whispering among themselves as though I wouldn't hear them.I sighed, biting my nails. Please don't do this to me, Alexis.I clenched my hands, my eyes fixed on the door, hoping she would walk in with a smile and tell me she'd changed her mind and that we had a deal.Right at that moment, the door swung open, and my eyes snapped to it. She walked in, and behind her was that annoying man, Xavier. I still wondered how the fuck they knew each other, but that didn't matter right now.My company mattered, and if this deal ended in rejection because of what we had, I wouldn't let her get away with it. I wasn't fucking at fault for anything tha

XAVIER'S POVThe conference room fell into complete silence. I stared at the man standing near the entrance, unable to believe what I was seeing.Dyson.For a second, I thought I had mistaken him for someone else. Then I noticed the way Alexis had gone perfectly still beside me.The color drained from her face. Her fingers tightened around the leather folder resting on the table until her knuckles turned white. She knew him.No.She knew him far too well. It couldn't be that he was who I thought he was.Dyson looked at Alexis as though the rest of us had disappeared. His mouth parted slightly, but no words came out.The silence stretched painfully.I shifted my gaze between the two of them before clearing my throat."Mr. Lacrae," I said, forcing the meeting back on track. "Please, have a seat."He didn't move. His eyes remained locked on Alexis."Alexis..."She inhaled slowly before lifting her chin. Every trace of surprise disappeared behind the calm, professional expression she had

DYSON'S POVA month had passed since my wife left me.I used to think losing Alexis would only mean coming home to an empty house. I thought the silence would be the hardest part. I was wrong. The silence was nothing compared to everything else falling apart around me.I stared at the mountain of documents sitting on my desk, my fingers pressing against my temple as I tried to understand how everything had become this complicated. Before Alexis left, these papers would have already been organized. She would have gone through every detail, pointed out every mistake, and reminded me of the things I had overlooked. She had always been better at this than me.I hated admitting that.My jaw tightened as I picked up another file.A merger I had been confident about was delayed. A partnership that had been almost finalized suddenly fell apart. Investors who once trusted my decisions were now questioning them.Everywhere I looked, there was a problem waiting for me.
