Chapter 03

Cara packed her luggage while Kenzie booked an Uber. When the Uber arrived, the driver assisted her in arranging the luggage into the booth of the Uber. Cara looked at her bestfriend with tears in her eyes.

"I will miss you Kenzie," Cara wiped the tears spilling out of her eyes as Kenzie hugged her. "Don't cry it's not good for the baby, you should always be happy," Kenzie said wiping her tears, "now you've made me cry."

Cara got into the Uber and waved at her. "Remember to keep in touch with me," McKenzie shouted as the Uber was driving away. Cara poked her head out of the car window, "I will, I will call you when I've landed."

"Okay," Kenzie waved her a goodbye and stared at the receding figure of the car. Cara rolled up the windows and watched the building race past with heaviness in her heart.

"Forgive me for intruding in your business but why are you leaving?" the middle aged driver asked her. "To find a new life," Cara said hopefully. He nodded and continued driving till then they arrived at the airport. She was surprised that the driver didn’t asked questions about her divorce or doesn’t he know?.

"I hope you get what you want," The driver said, lifting her luggage out of the car booth and she smiled at him praying in her heart. "Thank you, here is the fare," she took out the fare but the man refused to take it, he simply gave her a heart warming smile. "Don't worry, take care of yourself and your child," he said and got back and into the car, before Cara could ask him what he meant, he drove off leaving her stunned.

The voice in the intercom jolted her out of her reverie and she grabbed her luggages and headed to the boarding area.

Damien drove towards the airport in haste. Rafael had just informed him of Cara's departure, he panicked and jumped in his car without thinking. "Where is she travelling to?" He asked Rafael through the Bluetooth earphones.

"I don't know, I told you you'd regret it," Rafael said and he hung up, Damien hit the steering wheel in panic and increased speed running red lights.

As soon as he go to the airport, the flight had already taken off, he could only sit in his car and watch as the aeroplane slowly ascended into the sky. "What have I done?" Damien lamented.

Some days ago, after being probed by Rafael, he decided to check out the pictures again, this time he trusted Rafael to deal with it. Twelve later, Rafael sent the pictures to him with proof, the pictures were actually fake and they were photoshopped, it was traced to Eric.

"That god-damned son of a bitch," Damien cursed and gulped down drink after drink till he he became drunk, he cried on the shoulder of his friend. "I have lost her Rafael," He lamented, "she'll never forgive me."

"I warned you about your impulsive behavior, you lost her because of your lack of trust now she's gone you realize how much you loved her," Rafael chided him.

"How do I get her back?"

"I don't know, it's up to you to make it right," he comforted him. Damien stretched his hand to take another glass of whiskey and Rafael smacked his hand. "I think that's enough for tonight, time to take you home," Rafael helped him up taking out of the bar.

That morning, Damien woke up to the loud ringing of his phone and was hit with a massive hangover, he grunted holding his head as he answered the call.

"Get you ass outta bed and go to the airport before you lose her," Rafael shouted over the phone and he jumped out of the bed, without freshing up, Damien jumped into his car and drove as fast as could to the airport but didn't make it in time.

"Did you catch the flight? did you get to her in time?," Rafael asked but he was too stunned to answer, Damien simply got into his car and drove off.

"No, I was too late." silence ensued at the other side of the line.

"Find out where she's going, I am going to McKenzie's house," he said and hung up.

Ding Dong!

The doorbell rang, "I'm coming!!!!," Kenzie yelled and went to open the door. "Oh you have the nerve to come to my house after humiliating my bestfriend," Kenzie sneered.

"Where is she travelling to?"

"What makes you think I'll tell you, I can't ruin her chance of new life and finding true love," Kenzie said.

Damien paled and held the door for support as his knees weakend, his breath heaved deeply his eyes dilated. "What do you mean?"

She scoffed, "Don't tell me you're that dumb, did you expect she'd come back begging? gosh, not everything and everyone revolve around you."

Damien turned around and stumbled back to his car absentmindedly, "Call me anytime she gets in touch with you," he said even though he knew Kenzie would never call him but at least there should be something to hope for.

"Tsk, as if," Kenzie yelled as the car zoomed off. Damien drove home absentmindedly, it was a miracle he didn't have any accident.

Cara landed safely in Greensboro city, she smiled with satisfaction as she stepped out of the plane, breathing the clean, new air as she stepped out of the plane.

Greensboro city was a small city in Country V, it is almost as unrecognizable as it is in the map. No one will look for her here, no one will criticize her again. She'll just leave a peaceful life with Kenzie's parents.

Cara heard her name and scanned the airport, her eyes falling on two middle aged couple, she waved and walked up to them dragging her luggages along.

"How was the journey?" Sally, Kenzie's mother pulled her into a tight hug.

"Safe."

"It's so good to have you with us, you know when Harley told us you were coming, we were overjoyed," Harry, Kenzie's father said. Cara silently laughed knowing how much Kenzie hated her middle name. If she was here, her face would have morphed into a frown.

Harry arranged the luggage in the guest room where she would be staying while she and Sally sat in the car, after arranging the luggage, Harry climbed in and drove off. Cara stared at the building vanishing behind them as they past. She recalled the first day she met him.

*flashback*

"Cara meet Damien Zoric, Mr Zoric meet my daughter Cara," Will, Cara's father introduced the both of them. "It's a pleasure meeting you," she stretched out her hand to shake him but he held her wrist and pulled her to the dance floor, they slowly waltz together with other couples.

"Well, is this a new way of asking for a dance?" Cara blushed.

"It's my way of asking for a dance," he twirled her and she giggled but his face remained emotionless. After the dance, he introduced her to his friends, Rafael and Eric, she had also introduced her friend McKenzie to them. It was after the party that her father broke the news of her arranged marriage with Damien. They had a big and serious quarrel.

"Dad, you can't just set me up with a guy I just met, that's unreasonable!" Cara yelled at her dad. "What do you mean by a guy, he's not just a guy, he's the heir to the entire ZORIC EMPIRE!!" Will yelled back. "You want me to marry him because of his money?" She questioned and her mother nodded.

"Yes! now you're getting it. In that way, you can help the family business rise to the top," Her dad said coldly, Cara shook her head in pity. "If that's the case, I will not marry him, let Vivian marry him instead, after all, she always fantasized about marrying him."

"No! not happening, you must marry him, Vivian

has a whole life ahead of her," Cara's mother opposed immediately, she scoffed and marched to her room in anger.

*Flashback ends*

"Cara! Cara!" Sally called and she blinked, Sally gave her an understanding smile.

"Sorry Sally, I must have dozed off," Cara said rubbing her eyes.

"All is well that ends well," Sally whispered silently out of Cara's hearing and together they took her luggages and walked into the homely bungalow.

"This is going to be my home the next couple of years," Cara smiled and followed behind them closely.
