Chapter 3

Author: Maple Leaf
Paul snapped. He jabbed a finger at my face and started shouting, "We're your parents! You wouldn't even be here without us! How dare you talk to us like that!"

"Is that so?" I asked.

I let out a cold laugh and shook my head. "You had me, but you didn't raise me. Are we even family?

"You dumped me in the countryside when I was eight, dressing it up as training. Does eating scraps and sleeping in a barn count as training? What was the point of that?

"If I hadn't been too stubborn to die, would you even be standing here now, scolding me like you actually parented me?"

My questions left them stunned. It seemed to hit them then, just how much they owed their older son.

I continued questioning them, "You said, 'No need to treat him well.' Do you have any idea how much I suffered because of that? What right do you have to stand here as my parents and lecture me?"

Paul sensed his authority being challenged, and the flicker of guilt on his face vanished in an instant. He glared at me coldly and roared, "You dare talk to me like that?"

I looked up at him calmly and replied, my smile faint, "Even in front of outsiders, I still have every right to talk to you like this.

"But would you dare—would you dare stand in front of everyone and admit how you abused me, ignored me, and cast me aside, all while spoiling your younger son rotten?"

Jenna turned livid with rage at my words.

She jabbed a furious finger at me and screamed, "Shut up, you ingrate! I never should've given birth to you!"

I sneered back and retorted, "Did I beg you to give birth to me? The two of you don't even deserve to be my parents!"

"How dare you!" Paul bellowed. He was beside himself with rage. He raised his hand furiously, about to bring it hard down across my face.

I caught his wrist with a reverse grip and shoved it away hard.

He stumbled backward, nearly falling into the broken glass.

Fortunately, Victor was quick enough to catch him.

"Well, well, well, look at you, actually raising your hand against your own father!" Victor said.

Paul was so angry that he was panting, his bloodshot eyes drilling holes into me.

It was as if, if he'd had a knife in his hand right then, he would've plunged it into me without a second thought.

I laughed coldly. "Whether you're really my father or not, that's still up for debate, isn't it? Otherwise, how could you treat your own son like this?"

Sensing the tension about to boil over, my two-faced brother stepped in again to stir things up.

He grabbed Paul's and Jenna's hands aggrievedly and said, choking up, "Forget it, Mom, Dad. Please don't fight because of me. Since Noah insists on going on the overseas exchange program, then I'll just give it up to him."

The more he spoke, the more wronged he sounded. It was as if I had genuinely snatched something away from him.

As expected, Paul's and Jenna's hearts ached for him. Seeing him act so pitiful, they immediately turned on me, cursing viciously.

"Noah, some older brother you are! You bully your own brother like this, and he still speaks up for you!

"You're nothing but a thankless piece of shit who has no respect for your parents. We never should've had you!"

I stayed unmoved by their curses.

Because I knew that they only ever believed what Victor said. They'd never believe a single word from me.

Paul's face darkened. He stared at me coldly and demanded, "Noah, I'm asking you—are you giving up the spot to Victor or not?"

I shook my head coldly and resolutely replied, "No!"

After hearing my words, Jenna looked hurt. She looked at me sorrowfully, her voice trembling as she said, "I'm sorry, son. It's all my fault as a mother. I shouldn't have treated you that way."Her words actually made me laugh. I couldn't help shaking my head, replying with open mockery, "Mother? You still have the nerve to call yourself that? Have you and Paul ever actually cared about me?"My eyes filled with sorrow. I took a deep breath and continued, voice trembling, "I already knew I wasn't your biological son. So you don't need to come in here and put on this fake performance. I honestly can't be bothered to care."She froze when she heard this.Tears blurring her eyes, she shook her head and said, voice shaking, "No… That's not right, Noah. Who told you that you're not my biological son?"You are our real son. You're the one I gave birth to!"I was stunned by what she said. I stared at her in shock, unable to process it for a long moment. Was she saying that I was the re

Just as I was puzzling this over, I heard an argument from outside the ward.I pushed back the covers and got up, and heard Jenna's voice. She was frantically demanding something."Doctor, are you sure you haven't made a mistake? How could he not be my biological son? Check carefully again. Did you mix up the blood samples and take someone else's by accident?" she asked. The doctor sighed. His tone was gentle but firm as he tried to reason with her. "Please try to stay calm. We've already run the tests. The results confirm your son is not biologically related to you. I know this is difficult, but please stay strong."Jenna sank to the floor and sobbed into her hands.Hearing their exchange, I felt something inside me go utterly cold and dead.I never imagined it. I truly wasn't my parents' biological son, which explained everything. It was no wonder Paul and Jenna had never shown me an ounce of warmth or love, or cared what happened to me. It was because Victor was their real so

Could she really tell everyone that, all my life, she'd doted endlessly on her younger son instead? That whatever he wanted, she bought, that she practically wanted to hand him the best of everything under the sun? That the moment Victor so much as pouted, there was nothing he couldn't get?"I… This…" she stammered, eyes darting, not daring to say another word. The more they watched her act so out of character, the more visibly uncertain the crowd's expressions grew.Baffled, they eyed her with growing hesitation and pressed her again, "Wait, why aren't you saying anything? Someone asked you a question. Why won't you answer?""Yeah. If you've got nothing to hide, why not just say something?" another onlooker asked. The crowd gradually started to sense something was seriously off. They frowned, their questions growing louder and sharper."I think she's just guilty. If not, why wouldn't she say anything?" someone commented."Exactly. The second someone actually pressed her, she

I was their son too. I was their flesh and blood, just like Victor.Yet, he got their favoritism and their bottomless indulgence. And me?What did I get?I got their contempt and their mockery, beating after beating.I got Victor's abuse and humiliation, with endless disdain heaped on me.Paul never once stood up for me when Victor wronged me.Jenna never once dropped to her knees for my sake, wanting to save me.I had never once experienced that kind of love from my own parents.Right then, my chest ached so badly that I could barely stand it."I'm begging you, please, just save Victor. He's on the verge of death. Only your kidney can save him!" Jenna pleaded. She deliberately raised her voice as she clung to me, wailing. She made it sound as though I were a heartless brother who had simply stood by while my younger brother died. As if I were cold-blooded enough not to care about my own family. She put me on display in front of everyone, ripping away my last bit of dignity

Paul and Jenna caught up with me at the airport, panting hard as they blocked my way. Sweat drenched their foreheads."Noah, your brother is seriously ill. He needs a kidney transplant. You can't leave. You have to donate a kidney to him!" they demanded.I looked at them coldly and suddenly let out a laugh."Brother? What brother? When you disowned me, didn't you two swear up and down that I was no longer part of the Bishop family?"And now that your precious son is sick, suddenly you remember you have a son you kicked out of the family? Don't you find your behavior disgusting?" I asked.I deliberately raised my voice. Nearby onlookers immediately stopped in their tracks, curiously turning to look our way.Paul's face went ashen with fury. He jabbed a finger at me and snarled, "Even if we disowned you, you're still technically our son! Our blood runs in you whether you like it or not! We raised you all these years. Do you have no sense of gratitude at all?"I shot him a look of
