Chapter 4

Author: Maple Leaf
"Fine!" Paul snapped, his eyes turning vicious as he glared at me.

In a fit of fury, he roared, "If you won't give it up, then get out of the Bishop family. We're disowning you!"

Even though I'd braced myself for this, now that the moment had actually come, my heart still throbbed with pain.

So it was true—my own parents had never once regarded me as their real son.

In their eyes, I was nothing more than an unwanted extra.

Even now, casting me out, they still had to protect Victor to the bitter end.

I took a deep breath and let out a bitter smile. "Fine. From now on, I'm no longer a part of the Bishop family. Whatever happens to me has nothing to do with you anymore."

With that cold declaration, I turned and strode away.

"Noah, stop right there!" Jenna shouted.

She bit her lip, her eyes reddening as she tried to chase after me, but Paul grabbed her wrist.

His face twisted with malice as he bellowed, "Let him go! Keeping an ingrate like that around is nothing but trouble! I'd like to see what trash he becomes without our support!"

Paul thought threatening to disown me would scare me.

Little did he know, his little display was nothing but pathetic to me.

For ten years, he'd never once acknowledged me as his son in front of others.

Even when I was home, I still slept in the storage room. I never had a bedroom of my own.

Whatever meals the family made were always whatever Victor liked to eat.

My new clothes and shoes were always just hand-me-downs he'd already worn and didn't want anymore.

Back when they had me come work at the company, it was only as an ordinary intern. I was never given any special treatment.

The employees there even assumed I came from a poor family and went out of their way to look out for me.

Little did they know, I was actually the chairman's biological son.

Paul and Jenna had never once fulfilled their duties and responsibilities as parents. They made sure I suffered at every turn.

And now they actually believed that disowning me would make me hand over my one chance to change my fate to Victor.

How laughable, and how shameless of them.

I went back to my room, intending to pack up my things and leave.

But when I picked up my suitcase, I realized that I didn't actually have anything worth taking.

Just then, a sudden cry of alarm rang out from beyond the door.

I pushed the door open and found Victor collapsed on the floor. His face was deathly pale, and his lips had gone purple.

In my past life, it was on this very day that he was diagnosed with kidney disease.

Paul and Jenna had me packed off to the hospital that same night. They wanted me to undergo surgery to donate a kidney to him.

The surgery had been a success, but I ended up lying in the hospital bed, unconscious for three days, due to a bacterial infection.

The whole time, Paul and Jenna stayed glued to Victor's bedside. They didn't so much as glance at me once.

They even said that donating a kidney to Victor was an honor I should be grateful for.

I had given so much for him and this family.

But in the end, what I got in return was an early death. I was gone from this world while still young.

All of it caused by their favoritism, and Victor's schemes.

Now that I had a second chance at life, I'd never again let anyone else dictate the course of it.

I grabbed the exchange student approval form and slung my backpack over my shoulder. Without a single backward glance, I walked out of that cold, loveless house.

With the two thousand dollars I had left to my name, I rented a tiny single room.

Inside there was just a bed and a desk.

And yet, even so, it still felt far warmer to me than that cold, indifferent house ever had.

I studied hard and worked part-time jobs to support myself.

Half a month later, my application was finally approved.

I stood at the airport entrance, my heart pounding with excitement. As long as I had the chance to study abroad, I was certain that I could change my fate through my own effort.

But just then, uninvited guests showed up.

After hearing my words, Jenna looked hurt. She looked at me sorrowfully, her voice trembling as she said, "I'm sorry, son. It's all my fault as a mother. I shouldn't have treated you that way."Her words actually made me laugh. I couldn't help shaking my head, replying with open mockery, "Mother? You still have the nerve to call yourself that? Have you and Paul ever actually cared about me?"My eyes filled with sorrow. I took a deep breath and continued, voice trembling, "I already knew I wasn't your biological son. So you don't need to come in here and put on this fake performance. I honestly can't be bothered to care."She froze when she heard this.Tears blurring her eyes, she shook her head and said, voice shaking, "No… That's not right, Noah. Who told you that you're not my biological son?"You are our real son. You're the one I gave birth to!"I was stunned by what she said. I stared at her in shock, unable to process it for a long moment. Was she saying that I was the re

Just as I was puzzling this over, I heard an argument from outside the ward.I pushed back the covers and got up, and heard Jenna's voice. She was frantically demanding something."Doctor, are you sure you haven't made a mistake? How could he not be my biological son? Check carefully again. Did you mix up the blood samples and take someone else's by accident?" she asked. The doctor sighed. His tone was gentle but firm as he tried to reason with her. "Please try to stay calm. We've already run the tests. The results confirm your son is not biologically related to you. I know this is difficult, but please stay strong."Jenna sank to the floor and sobbed into her hands.Hearing their exchange, I felt something inside me go utterly cold and dead.I never imagined it. I truly wasn't my parents' biological son, which explained everything. It was no wonder Paul and Jenna had never shown me an ounce of warmth or love, or cared what happened to me. It was because Victor was their real so

Could she really tell everyone that, all my life, she'd doted endlessly on her younger son instead? That whatever he wanted, she bought, that she practically wanted to hand him the best of everything under the sun? That the moment Victor so much as pouted, there was nothing he couldn't get?"I… This…" she stammered, eyes darting, not daring to say another word. The more they watched her act so out of character, the more visibly uncertain the crowd's expressions grew.Baffled, they eyed her with growing hesitation and pressed her again, "Wait, why aren't you saying anything? Someone asked you a question. Why won't you answer?""Yeah. If you've got nothing to hide, why not just say something?" another onlooker asked. The crowd gradually started to sense something was seriously off. They frowned, their questions growing louder and sharper."I think she's just guilty. If not, why wouldn't she say anything?" someone commented."Exactly. The second someone actually pressed her, she

I was their son too. I was their flesh and blood, just like Victor.Yet, he got their favoritism and their bottomless indulgence. And me?What did I get?I got their contempt and their mockery, beating after beating.I got Victor's abuse and humiliation, with endless disdain heaped on me.Paul never once stood up for me when Victor wronged me.Jenna never once dropped to her knees for my sake, wanting to save me.I had never once experienced that kind of love from my own parents.Right then, my chest ached so badly that I could barely stand it."I'm begging you, please, just save Victor. He's on the verge of death. Only your kidney can save him!" Jenna pleaded. She deliberately raised her voice as she clung to me, wailing. She made it sound as though I were a heartless brother who had simply stood by while my younger brother died. As if I were cold-blooded enough not to care about my own family. She put me on display in front of everyone, ripping away my last bit of dignity

Paul and Jenna caught up with me at the airport, panting hard as they blocked my way. Sweat drenched their foreheads."Noah, your brother is seriously ill. He needs a kidney transplant. You can't leave. You have to donate a kidney to him!" they demanded.I looked at them coldly and suddenly let out a laugh."Brother? What brother? When you disowned me, didn't you two swear up and down that I was no longer part of the Bishop family?"And now that your precious son is sick, suddenly you remember you have a son you kicked out of the family? Don't you find your behavior disgusting?" I asked.I deliberately raised my voice. Nearby onlookers immediately stopped in their tracks, curiously turning to look our way.Paul's face went ashen with fury. He jabbed a finger at me and snarled, "Even if we disowned you, you're still technically our son! Our blood runs in you whether you like it or not! We raised you all these years. Do you have no sense of gratitude at all?"I shot him a look of
